    Project: Necronomicon, 4 Oct

I've been wandering the hallowed halls of bit-tech for some months now; a wretched restless spirit whose mad chattering has been heard in numerous threads but who has finally found a home in his own project log.

    Whatever. On with the modding.

This is my first mod, and this is the sacrificial lamb.

Sorry for the crap photography :)

A little dremel work (which killed my fake dremel, hehe)

Which was just the excuse I needed to buy this:

A small update as I'm unfortunately a little snowed under by work this week. Bought some push-fit elbows and tees to join a couple of 120mm Wet and Chilly Chips radiators. Sadly the company has now stopped trading - their kit seems to be quite good.

OK, so it's not pretty, but it's secure and it will be hidden from view for the most part.

The push-fit fittings were a bit restrictive I thought, so I turned the attention of my dremel on them
    [IMG]

And I made a temporary mounting for the pump from some packing foam - I'll work out something permanent before the WC is properly installed.

Removed the Aluminium divider because I wasn't happy with it.

After one failed attempt, I managed to get a piece of acrylic bent to match the aluminium peice I removed. A bit of dremelling and sanding to fit and viola!

Bit of work still needed to get it perfect, and I've only just ordered the socket-head M3 bolts needed to hold it in place, but hopefully it should be done this week. It's still covered in masking tape, so that's why it's not clear in the picture (in case anyone is wondering)

let me introduce Tiku, the modding cat. I don't have a cat of my own, so I borrowed a friend's one, but this is all I could get it to do - I think it's broken.

Pah! One message every 30 seconds? Bit quick on the trigger I guess.

Polished up the White Water blocks - I didn't care for the black too much. But I left it anodised on the inside surfaces to prevent corrosion. Sorry for the blurred photo - it looks better in the flesh - it's not a deliberate use of soft focus to hide imperfections (or maybe it is...)

Made an acrylic panel to replace the aluminium one I removed earlier. Oh, I already showed you that... but here it is without the masking tape, and with a bit at the end so that it can bolt onto the case instead of just resting on the PSU. I embedded the nuts in the acrylic with cyanocylate adhesive.

I've leak tested and installed the watercooling, although the loop could do with being neater - I'll have to get my head around exactly how to get it as neat as I'd like. Here's how it looks at the moment:

Id advise you to post a full duplicate of your current project log in this location; that way, discussion and ideas can be seen in addition to the project logs as they have been. your project is looking good so far; maybe you should replace that clear plexi with some colored stuff-unless of course you plan on lighting it ;)

    Nice work!
Warning! Slight abuse follows! I would think about finding a way to channel some air over the NB to keep it cool and please, clean up that wiring... make it look a little more routed and planned... not stuffed...
Are you going for a clean look or more of a stuffed in a shoebox look? If the former, see about making the cleanest and airflow friendliest layout. With that perfskin shell, the airflow will be a bit crazy except through the rad and the exit 120 fan.

You know, a support bracket styled like the one Nexxo used on his project Metaversa would really help beef up that area of the case; it looks pretty wimpy atm.

That's would kinda defeat the purpose of the new PL setup, now wouldn't it? :wallbash: A big, bold link in the first thread would be nice though. And vice versa in you other thread to put a bold link to this thread in either your first post or in each post.

Anyways, lookings nice. It took me a second to realize you didn't draw those arrows on your tubes IRL.

How's that case working out for you? I thought about buying one myself, but after seeing a few people use it, it just seems too cramped because of how it's compartmentalized. As said before, you'll improve the looks alot once you get the case finalized and all the wiring/tubing is tidied up. :thumb:

according too the rules your only supposed too post an image and a link so a full duplicate is not a good idea unless you want a warnign form a Mod.

Looking ok so far mate bit messy but its early stages from the looks of things

I have quite a few external mods planned, although they're not going to be too 'in your face'. The name 'necronomicon' should give some clues although I'm not going to give too much away at this stage. More because I'm not sure I can pull it off rather than I think people mightcopy my ideas. I'm thinking of copying a few of the methods used in Macro Black but a lot more 'evil' looking.

Expect lots of green plexi to be noticeable... by its absence:) I think I'm beginning to really hate green plexi.

The wiring will definitely be stealthed. It's messy at the moment because it's at the WC testing stage (and I've got to edit a video for a friend so I needed a working PC and not just my laptop)

And while I won't duplicate my log in here, I'll update the first post with the latest pictures, and perhaps post specific photos in here in answer to questions.

It's a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be when I ordered it. I thought I'd be able to fit the radiators and pump in the bottom compartment. And then when I got all the bits I had to scratch my head quite a bit, wondering how the hell to fit it all in. I nearly bought a second V1000 in order to joing the two and make a LL cube. It's been a challenge getting stuff to fit - especially the water cooling tubing. It's tight - if I did it again I'd go small bore.

It's been a while since I've done an update, what with my university assignments being due (I'm doing a mathematics degree part time with the OU), modding the lounge to keep the wife happy and generally being busy at work as well. But the time comes when you have to put trivialities aside and get on with the serious business of mucking about with computers.

My main concern, having fitted and leak tested the water cooling, was how unbelievably hot the pump was getting. After running it overnight you couldn't keep your hand on the pump body without chancing 3rd degree burns. So I began work on cooling it:

It was a bit of a b**ger drilling the fins on the HS, let me tell you! But having drilled (and ruined another HS which I may show you later) and mounted it on the pump I was left wondering how to mount it in the case.

...until I realised that the already cramped space I had allocated for drives was no longer.
