yeah, ive been having trouble with that part of the layout. I also dropped the volume control switch idea too because of its irregularity. I dont want the switches to get in the way of the form of the mod.

Very nice job. Love what you are doing. I don't have that much experience in metal working. I love the game and I haven't loaded it is so long. I used to get together with a bunch of guys and play.

Update again, but not very much to post....

I decide to alter the plans, for better or worse. Tell me what you think.
The reason this was doneis because the spars had previously taken up WAY too much space and were just metal for the sake of it looking purty. So, they were (sounds of erasing). I think that ill probobly strike a balance between the two and fix up the sketchup job, but thats scheduled for over the weekend. :sigh:

    As for the modwork...
These are screws. Im allergic to screw heads, so screw...
...meet dremel! Now that the nasty top screws are shaved off, i can test the top pieces (all fully welded!) to check for fit.

Sweetness. They fit! Of course its not PERFECT because the bottom screws still have yet to meet Mr. Dremel, which is scheduled for in about... 10 minutes.

    Thanks for reading, LEAVE INPUT.
    Please? :waah:

Well, the base is looking pretty good. The pylons in the diagram - I don't like em. They jut out a bit too inwards.

I don't know, I like the base of the original pylons better, but the thinness of the new pylon design.

Also, have you thought about using rivets instead of screws for the main structure?

Yes i have, but not enough i suppose.

My provider of supplies refuses to lend me the things i need. He either forgets or simply chooses not to, and so im missing a heat gun, a ball peen, and a rivet gun. Thank you, hoffmanmyster! Im working on obtaining it through other means, tho.

As for the spars, im kind of stuck there. Its pretty long from one side to the other, and its just empty metal w/out a purpose. Ill have to play around with the new spars and see if i cant make them look better.

What do you mean your provider of supplies?

Heat gun: $25 at Lowes, $30 at Home Depot. Ball Pein: $10-$20. For $14 or so, you can get a Vaughan 16 oz one at Home Depot. Rivet gun: $20 will get you a rivet gun and a few packs of rivets.

BUT I can see your point of view. I only recently acquired a ball pein and heat gun myself.

I've got a few dozen extra "medium" 1/8" alum rivets I'd be willing to donate. Unfortunately you probably need "small" ones, and I don't have many of those. Sorry man. And then you still need the rivet gun, and that's what cost the most.

I like how the mods coming along, and sorry for not being able to give you those things, but Ill bring the ball peen tomorrow, its in my bag...its only a matter of time...and as far as the heat gun and riveter go, I dont think I can lend you those, Ive already explained that to you, youll just have to come over and use em.

looks like its coming along alright, even if it is called nexus. you should really get the tools you need though. you cant put a price on having the right tools.

also, how big is this thing gonna be when its done?

The tools really area a killer, but im trying to go through EBay to get them. Ive actually got the rivet gun on the way along with a heat gun, but itll be a while. Final size... I have it in cm because theyre smaller and i find them easier to work with but... i think the main pyramid is 24" to a side? That should be about right. Its been seeming WAY too big recently, but then i thought about what im gonna do to the insides and it jsut seems small. More on that to come :D.

Speaking of EBay, i just got 100 blues and 100 white 5 mm 15000 dm LEDs. 2 bucks a pack!

Just to comment on the plans, are you going to put LEDs into the tips of the spires (the blue part)? If so, why not fully continue the perfect pyramid shape instead of altering the shape of the clear plastic/w.eyou'lluse and make it so that the tip ends in-between the arm tips and serve as lights to see inside of spread light through the top part?

i liked the staggered tips, and my referance model has the same thing. with a normal pyramid, it looks too... tall and ungainly. idk ill post some of the original pics.

    Update. What can i say.

So its basically that time again. The time to post and pretend like i got some work done when really all i did was dally around while i look at my cool new tools.

cool new tools?!? what did he say?!

No i was just checking to see if you payed attention :sigh: . I did get some new materials, but sadly no new tools. :worried:

So i basically love ebay. I love ebay to the point where i might just propose soon. Its still uncertain, but stay tuned.
As for the reasons of my love...
    [IMG] [IMG]

...dandy you say. whoopie, leds and switches.
Youd be right, if these didnt cost me 10 dollars altogether! 200 16000mcd rating leds and 10 switches for said leds and some fans. very. sweet. :thumb:

This isnt to say i didnt get ANY work done! The bottom needed strengthening, and i decided against the steel tread plate because of price and weight. So long story short, heres what ive got on the bottom.

Another one coming in soon, stay tuned!

Just an idea.. If you dont want to have any buttons that ruin the symmetry, why dont you use a remote to start the computer? ;)

    thanks for the comments.

Under that umbrella of plans is a little one that consists of a control panel :D. I was thinking of modding my keyboard or moniter (or both) with the same theme and putting all of the switches for the fans and lights, the eject button, and the on/off and reset switches. Will draw up in sketchup soon, sorry till then!

    Thanks for the comments again.

Damn this looks like an interesting, but complex design. Hats off to the man for going with this kind of challenge.

I'll be following this thing for sure.

Let us know how good the LEDs are. As it is, I pay $5 for a dozen or so.

Update time and still no summary sketches. :sigh:

No i know im a slacker and have been POST-poning (pun intended) the post that will outline all of my major plans and goals, along with the full completed interior CAD. Sorry, i just dont have any time. Along with varsity track and schoolwork i have about an hour a day to free time. Anyway, the next step to the project is an "apron" that covers the bottom of the case and protects the feet and screw heads and nuts from view. i have to epoxy this apron on because the heat from the gas torch expands and distorts the metal, most unfun. Heres the work that got done before i got sleepy.

The four aprons, cut and filed down with the rotary and the file.

The edge (apron sounds like im modding my blender) with a corner cut and sitting under its soon to be close neighbor.

I realized a problem. Once the edge(formerly known as apron) is epoxied on, i wont be able to sand the metal right next to the epoxy because my trusty sanding block wont reach! so i had to sand beforehand for an even sanding.

    ... with these trusty tools.

After a pause of about a day or two (whoops...) I actually got the chance to finish the edge-work. I also got a few more mail surprises....

This is the edge on the side thats going to be epoxied on, sanded it so the epoky would grip better.

Heres the two parts epoxied together and being held down by duct tape, a hand vice, a can of paint, a........

I almost forget about the mail gifts! Ebay, being my bestest friend ever, managed to wrangle the below for me.
Ahh... wonderful. The 80m fan on top of the radiator is there just for proportions sake to show thats one big mother rad. I also got 20 feet of 1/2 tubing and all sorts of water cooling odds and ends (the pump under the tubing is small and disgustingly underpowered). The whole deal came for 10 dollahs, but im most excited about the rad.

Tis a little big however. I was worried my case would be TOO big before, but its steadily shrinking before my eyes. The end stages of this mod are going to be nightmarish...

About the radiator... i intend on making a housing for it and cleaning it up, but if anyone knows where to find 160m fans, id be greatful. I dont want to have to stack 4 40m's next to each other just for the rad.
