I've been a big fan of the work that you modders do on here for quite some time now. It was a real pleasure to tear up a fine Lian-Li for my very first mod... I'm a student here at OSU, and I have two passions... Watching Buckeye football and everything having to do with computers. I figured I'd incorporate the two together... My work so far is pretty limited, and I apologize in advance for the lack of in-progress pics to this point (had trouble requisitioning a digital cam). The stencil for the design was painstakingly cut by hand onto some plastic notebook dividers using an exacto knife. Etched with Armour Etch solution... Case was cut with the almighty Dremel of course. Still to do: 1) Add red and UV cathodes or LED strips for ambient lighting (Having read about the horror stories regarding cathodes spontaneously bursting into flames, I'm a little hesitant about using these, but I still have to do a lot of research to figure out how to make an LED strip) 2) Stealth Drives 3) Rewire new toggle switches for the lights and mount them on the lower right side on the front 4) Add one 120mm case fan to the top 5) Sleeve PSU wires, and a little more wire management Anything else that I have thought of is either too costly or ambitious for a first mod... I would appreciate any comments/suggestions on the work to this point and what I still have left to do... I know there's a lot of you out there with Lian-li's and I would like to hear about some cool things that you think I could do. I know the possibilities are endless with these cases Thanks again to Bit-Tech and it's legions of modders for the tutorials, project logs, and advice. You're help to this point has been invaluable, and has enabled me to avoid the many pitfalls that come with this hobby. Oh yeah, GO BUCKS!!!!! 5 more days bro!!!
Realized that I probably shoulda posted this in the modding section and let the real pros have the project logs to themselves... Sorry!! Moderators feel free to move this if you like... I've added two 12" ccfl's and stealthed the two drives as you can see in the pics that follow... Still have to clean the wires up a bit more. If you've noticed the green sleeving in that last pic, good eyes! Still waiting for a red sleeving kit to arrive... I think I'm going to tackle that Psone LCD screen mod next... Wish me luck
I'm pretty sure the base of the Armour Etch solution is hydroflouric acid, so yes it can be dangerous if you're not careful. I just used plastic bags to protect my hands, and smeared it on as best as I could. You have to really pay attention to detail and make sure that the etching cream is spread on as evenly as possible. Thin spots will leave a noticeably thinner etch. After just "slopping" it on, I used a fine paint brush to touch up anything that looked too thin. Oh yeah, the directions for that stuff say to leave it on for 5 minutes. I opted for about an hour to make sure that it came out as good as it was going to get...
Ok, thanks for your prompt answer! I have to check, if its possible to get this solution here in germany.
