Ok, so heres one of my new projects that I will be working on. Im naming it Project:ONE because my last case was named Project:ZERO as you all know. Im still working on a few other projects but Im sure this will be my main one for the next few weeks/months. This project was inspired by Mashies Project:Oenone. I just had to get me one of those cool SGI cases. The case itself costed $59 with shipping. It was a gift from my Mom for X-Mas. Now for some pics The Front Of the case, I didnt have the CD-Rom face on with the case but I do have it. The back, Im thinking of using either aluminum or plexi for a backplate And now to the damaged areas that will need fixing: The left side of the case has a piece broken off but luckily the seller sent me the piece with the case, it also has a crack that runs nearly the length of the case another pic: This damage also extends to the back a bit The other side also has some plastice "shaved" off, it appears as if it was rubbing against something; Im thinking of covering up the crack on the side and back with a piece of aluminum cut out in some sort of design. I want it to look very "TECHY" and i really want to avoid the flame look and the tribal look as those are just too common. Here is a pic of the cases old chassis Im saving this because it should give me some dimensions for the new chassis that Im going to build for it. Im planning on using some of the left over alluminum extrusions from my Project:ZERO case and some plexi because I have a ****load of it. Im planning on getting the following FIC AT31 mATX mobo AMD 1800+(or better) XP Proc Not sure what hsf to get, any recommendations? 20GB or bigger HD 1u PSU another Toshiba DVD-Rom drive because like Mashie said, its compatable with the Drive tray face, but that too has some tabs broken off that I can easily fix. I should be able to buy all the stuff I need within a week or two. A week more than likely.
heh, you do look stupid when your the only one not to like mashies case, you obviously didnt read the whole project log or their is something wrong with you. i dont think he would have such a large project log if he just stuck a VFD and cathode in the case eh? another thread in GD is going on about modders who just mod for looks are pointless, which to an extent i do agree on. modding should be about performance AND looks. mashie completely converted the chassis of the case with CF and went to extreme measures for small detail. if you dont like his work then keep your opinions to yourself as im sure he has far more respect that yourself. and good luck with the project Det, that case does seem a bit vandalised. thanks, .icecube
It is a bit vandalized but thats where the fun is. I was looking for a challange and this case is certainly offering it.
You could probably filler those cracks with something like car body filler, Plastic Padding or Milliput, you know the sort of thing - a 2 part epoxy, sand it off smooth then re-spray the original colour or any coulour you like. With care it should be possible to make the repair completely invisible without covering it with a trim piece to hide it.
A garbage bin huh? I simply would have said that I don't like it, but I have to admit that that case is nice. If I had a office I would like to have one to make my pc look classy. What I really don't like it's the fact that he has started working on that case only after Mashie did it. And it's not a similar case, it's exactly the same. It's just like when Linear made his Invisible case... Every one started building plexy cases.... Macroman builds that case for Intel? and someone does something similar.... this is no good. just my humble opinion.
the dude "copying" 3G Clear had started 3 months ago. And people ahve been making clear cubes before linear. he just made an exceptionally good one. I had plans to build my own befoer he did, i just didnt have the money.
Its a challenge for sure. Good luck with it Det. Is it going to be in the next Everlan? My project has been put off until Im in my new house...around the 23rd of January. It has a shop built into the basement. At that point I should be able to start up a log and provide a real challenge for the next Lan.
YOU MEAN JUST CAUSE 100'S OF OTHERS HAVE MODDED A LIAN LI I CANT!?!?!?! OH MY GOD WHY WASNT I TOLD!!! aslong as he dosent copy mashie theres nothing wrong with it. i was thinking about a mod with one of those but i better not cause mashie already has.
hey there's nutting wrong with moddin Lian Li's....yea.....right guys??? Hehe, Det you should chrome that mutha out! OR, take some ever loving bondo and change it completely!
For Gods sake, who cares.. if someone wants to make a direct imitation of something I've done, fair play to them I say.. so long as they even just recognise that mine exists, I'm happy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Some people would do well to remember that. It's not a competition! The purpose of this site and these forums is so people can learn and get inspiration. If people feel good owning a copy of someone elses work they made themselves, then fair play. What I find 'no good' is when someone can't get constructive critisism on their work because the threads full of people who just want to mock, usually without having done anything themselves except installing a tri-coloured fan and calling it a mod. If some of your are so authoratitive, why not actually give some advice on how to make it different and unique for once? The project log, of all places, is somewhere for help and advice, and I'll just start deleting posts from people who seem to think that it's helpful to do nothing but take the piss.
Cheers KNA. Modding is all about having fun, and if det is having fun modding a SGI case, more power to him. Mr hydrogen18, why dont you post a link to pics of whatever, if any, mods you have done yourself? dont post pics of anything premodded (cases that come with windows, ect ect), that way we can all slam your case, as you have slammed Det and Mashies. Det, looks like yer gonna have a time fixing all those cracks, cant wait to see what happens
DETN8R, I see you will have many hours of fun modding ahead of you. I wonder what the previous owner have done to this poor case to put it in this bad shape. As for all thread crappers, don't wast your time since I will delete all of your posts on sight, understood?
I have no idea what you're planning for the inside of the case, and no real idea of it's size, but for sheer ease, could you not rip the guts out of a cheapo matx case and use that? Obviously this defeats the object, just a thought though.
Im not trying to copy anyone, I just wanted to do something different with this case. If you dont like what I do or how I do it then just leave me alone. I dont go around criticizing your projects. Im putting alot of my own money, time, and effort to do something original. and Deymos, I can understand that you think Im trying to copy him, im not. It just like with the Next Cube, after Cold Dog did his mods a few other people baught them and are doing some incredibly different things with them, take Grump for example. I dont want this case to look anything like mashies, I have my own plans/ideas for this one. Mashie left the outer shell of his case alone and just modded/remade the insides and an incredibly different way. I plan on modding the shell, also I have never seen anyone use Carbon Fiber in a mod/case before. Well not before I seen Mashies work anyway, Linear, and Lord Pheaton have both used Carbon Fiber but I didnt find that out untill after they posted their worklogs. And im sure that neither of them were copying each other. Just a coincidence. I plan on painting this case, as well as adding aluminum to the exterior and interior along with some plexiglass and lights. Of course the lights will be blue, and maybe white, but thats because I dont really like any of the other colors available. And mashie, thanks for supporting me on this project as well as everyone else thats supporting me in the modding community. Im not sure if any of this made sense but Im sure someone understands me. Now onto a different subject: As for the inside of the case, I plan on remaking the chassis using some of the T-Slotted aluminum extrusions that I have left over from my previous project, which is more or less completed now. For the outside, I plan on modding the vents on the bottom piece of plastice.
Sorry I didnt answer your question in my last post. Im not sure if this will be going to everlan, My Project:ZERO case is still needing a few design changes/fixes and Im thinking of not entering this time. After all winning first place 2 times and second place once is pretty cool.
What ? are you guys jealous! Thread crappers ??? I like it, Can I use that one Mashie? Anyway, there are many of us out here who are pretty good with a dremel but couldn't come up with an original idea if our lives depended on it. so we look to the others who are, for inspiration. We don't need the grief from you "thread crappers" & Detn8R, good luck man, you got some fun ahead. Keep us posted.
Good luck. Mashie did a very good job of his case, but may I suggest a name change? Project:ONE after Project:ZERO (which I haven't seen yet) is also very similar. I am in no way saying you are copying Mashie, by all means go ahead with the mod. But some people might say that you are basically taking the same case and a very similar name for that reason alone, which is most likely not the case. Good luck again, should be another good project log.
