believe me, If I had the time and patience I would paint it the same color as the top.

anyone know if A rustoleum metallic black coat would hate going on a duplicolor flat black coat? because Im starting to think the same thing.

Do a test paint on something else, some scrap. Paint it with the flat, let it dry...use a hair dryer or something...then paint it with the gloss.

I'm thinking it should be fine...the flat will act as a primer.

Thanks guys, also. I think you guys who think the base would look better metallic as well are just thinking of how it looks in the pic.

You must realize that the flash was on and the exxaggerates the shinyness and sparklyness of the flakes in the paint job. It looks much darker and better without the flash.

I think the flat black provides a good contrast. I would however suggest a satin finish rather than a flat finish. Black gloss would look nice as well, but a flat or satin finish would make it look more pro imo.

I like the flat area. It goes perfectly with the rocket ship theme. Kind of makes it look like the exhaust side of the whole thing.

Yeah, that was my main reason for painting the base flat black.

Taking a second look: the problem is not just the gloss or flakes but color also; the base is not as black as the upper part and it is slightly gray and bluer.

That may just be your monitor.

Also, I really doubt that my can of black spray paint was really a greyish bluish color.

Looks really good mate. I think the discolouration of the base, to seem grey/blue is just the flash. Try and get some more pictures in a well lit room (I find offices have very good lighting surprisingly, lots of big strip lights and reflectors) and then grab some pics without the flash. The contrast looks sweet!
Gotta mention the finish on the upper section is awesome, i wasnt around when you posted up the pic, so thought i would say now.

    Mod On!

The lines created by the vents in the front look inconsistent, but it could just be light?

Decided to put all of my effort into the project. Didn't want to screw with the log. Besides, that project died the horrible death it deserved. :grr:

My current project looks nothing like it, except its acrylic. I will post all the pics at once when its done.
