    The feet were definatly an improvment on the last set, they are larger and look great, especially the mirrored finish... Where did you get the inital metal feet with that specialist design?

    The only thing I liked about the other feet was the 45 angle

    The quality and design of those feet really set this case apart from most of the other Lian Li mods out there, good job man.

    Hey all and thanks for your comments.

    @olly_lewis

    The first foot was made by me as an prototype from the same piece of aluminium that I used to make these feet.

    @hydro

    Same here, I also miss the 45 degree angle, would have been sweet. Maybe I'll have to incorporate that in another mod someday :D

    Hey, I have a question for you guys, how many posts do you have to have before you can change that "multimodder", "supermodder" thing to something else?

    Tomorrow I could update you on my server that I put together yesterday. I have a load of pics about that and also it'd be nice to show where the monsters parts were formally :hehe:

    Shiny DVD burner...

    I'm back with yet another update (been watching 3DGameMan.com reviews way too much, but hey, Rodney Reynolds rules! :hehe:).

    @hydro

    I know you can make your own texts, but I believe you have to have a certain amount of posts before you can do that, does anyone know the amount? For the clock, it's going to be a surprise, but to disappoint you, there's not going to be a clock under that wire-hole, I have something completely different planned for that part. But there's going to be a clock or at least something you can use as one...

    @modsquad

    Thanks for the compliments. And for the avatar, I thought that this would go better with my nick than that fat Che Guevara one :hehe:

    Okay, so I didn't like the CF-vinyl on the Plextor drive. It has too many dents and holes which make applying the vinyl neatly almost impossible. After trying it twice I gave up and thought something else, let's polish the bugger :thumb:

    So after taking the drive apart I went to sanding. First with an orbital sander and with 120 and 240 grit papers. After that it was on to wetsanding, the usual 240, 400, 600, 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit papers were used. Then I strapped on a moist sponge-like polishing...well sponge :hehe:. With that I used Farecla G3 scratch remover compound and finishing touches were made with Autosol and a wool buffing wheel. Well how does it look like, let's find out shall we...

    [IMG]

    Here are the casing parts polished, they don't look like much since there's nothing to shine, but...

    [IMG]

    ...when we slap something on it, it comes alive :rock:

    [IMG]

    Here's the drive assembled, I'm still working on the round cover plate, that's tomorrows job.

    [IMG]

    And here it is reflecting the fan from a few angles (I'm loving this :D).

    That's it for now, tomorrow some pics of the server I promised and maybe an update on OM...same bat channel, probably about the same bat time...

    Night everybody.

    Very nice, I've tried that myself, but didnt succeed then (polishing).
    Maybe I'll give it a second try, or maybe I'll just paint it, but anyways, good work as always!

    Hey customholle, and thanks for your comment.

    Agreed that an acrylic cover would look great and go with the theme, but unfortunately it's never going to be seen since the drive is located in the top of the rack. I think I'll have to go with the original cover and maybe change it to acrylic one if this drive goes into some other case someday or I decide to make a top window for OM :hehe:

    Damn, you do know how to get to me :hehe:

    Still, I'll probably go with the boring metal plate, cause what's underneath it is quite ugly. If it would work as a window inside the drive, I'd do it in a sec, but there's this plastic thing which probably balances the spinning cd or something like that. Keep them ideas coming though, I loved this one.

    Would be cool to coat the drive otherwise in orange acrylic, but leave just that round metal thing in place, you know so that the whole drives innards could be seen...hmm...don't think I'll do that either, spent too much time to get it polished in the first place. :D

    Night everybody.

    Maybe try some candy paints ask modsquad about it. They are semi transparent and lovely. He could hook you up with the right stuff to buy.

    how much time did it take you to do your drive darkend?

    I'm contemplating the sanding route for my next case, i like the chrome look without having to get it chromed.

    Unbelievable!!! Really amazing project, looking forward to see it finished... I've been arround for almost 8 months here on bit-tech and this is my first post, had to be to congratulate this amazing project, one of the best logs i've seen here in bit-tech. So nice and clean, and the attention to details is incredible. Like customhole said, the top plate of the DVD bruner would rock in orange plexi, even if you wont see it :D

    Keep the excelent work!! :rock:

    The server update...

    Ok, so what do we do when we can't sleep...we update!

    When the project started, I promised or actually just hinted that I might be showing something else besides Orange Monster as we go on. Well a couple of days ago I stripped my old case (the one with most of the OMs hardware in it) and my htpc. The innards from the htpc went into the old case and now I don't have a htpc :waah:

    Well something good though, now I've got a server once again which I love :thumb: And to clarify things, this isn't going to be anything "larger than life", just a neat installation and as silent as possible.

    Let's see some pics of the fast "project"...

    [IMG]

    My "old" case is the original Coolermaster Praetorian which still is one cool case IMO. Here it is stripped from almost all hardware and cleaned for server installation. There's also sound dampening mat installed troughout the whole case.

    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    What was left in the case were the front fans (which I see were still dusty when I took that pic) and the fancontroller. Notice my custom fan wiring which is made from a fancy (and expensive) usb wire :D All casefans are Papst 12dB ones, so not too much noise there :thumb:

    [IMG]

    The PSU is going to be this Antec NeoPower 480W modular one, a nice unit, no complaints about that.

    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    There it is installed with an antec noise dampener gasket.

    [IMG]

    Here are the two Nexus Drive-A-Ways which include an 37GB Western Digital Raptor and an 160GB Western Digital Caviar drive.

    [IMG]

    And here is the Plextor DVD burner which has an Coolermaster front fascia installed on it.

    [IMG]

    Here's the motherboard (Asus A7V8X), Matrox G550, an extra lan card and SoundBlaster Live 5.1 digital installed on the motherboard tray. The heatsink is made by Swiftech and the fan is 92mm Noiseblocker fan, can't remember the specs on those.

    [IMG]

    Here is the tray slipped in its place...

    [IMG]

    ...and this is how it looks once everything is back in its place.

    [IMG]

    A wiring closeup showing some custom wiring I've done ages ago :hehe:

    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    And this is how things are looking from the backside.

    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    Case closed :D

    Well not really, I'll tell you more in a sec...
