The only thing about that heatsink is the fin density its very low density. The only other thing its freakin huge so find density may not be an issue.

density doesnt have anything to do with it hydro - heatsinks are made based on their specific heat capacity.

Heatsink fin density will ofc affect how much heat will go through it. More fins, larger heat-flux. The only things limiting the amount of fins is the increasing weight and dropping air-flow characteristics.
In other words: Put more fins on a heatsink and it will transmit more heat away from target zone, but it will be heavier and it will need a stronger fan to keep the air flowing through it at a decent rate.
It's a matter of finding the optimum for the fan used and the fin profile in question. Much of it applies to radiators too.

density will affect the rate of heat transfer, true (as part of the function Q=mc[tf-ti]), but again it's the material's value of specific heat capacity (Q) that determines it's effectiveness as a heatsink.

your statement in regards to airflow is all true though. :thumb:

I think we have all misunderstood what each of us meant... tdkwarrior was talking about material density and hydro_electric and I about fin density. Or else I'm interpreting hydro_electric wrong?

We need an update quick so we can break the awkward silence. :worried:

    Alphacool LCD...

Ok, update time, and 40 minutes to spare :hehe:

Let's start with small things again and work our way up.

I decided that the front of the case was too bare as it was and so I ordered this:

A white on blue Alphacool 240 x 128 pixel LCD display. And since there's going to be other blue hilights in the case also, I thought this would be good.

Also what I liked about this unit was it's ability to work with just one USB wire, no powercords or hefty parallel cables needed :thumb:

Ok, this thing is started now, more soon.

nice unit, too bad for your project they dont make it with orange backlighting. perhaps if you place a piece of orange plexi on top of it it will look better

    Case stripped and cleaned...

You really are on the edges of your seats guys, that's good :hehe:

And no, the big update wasn't just about the LCD, lol.

Finally the case is in a phase that I can start the assembly stage.

So first the case was stripped and after that I gave it a good cleaning with denaturated alcohol. Some pics...

I actually like the colorscheme of the stripped case also, not bad :D

And the always nice feet, which are shining for a while since I cleaned them.

Don't disappear, more to come, just have to edit some pics...

brains... need more brains!! No wait! Updates... need more updates! Igor is hungry for them... :jawdrop:
    (we need a zombie-smilie)
btw looking good as always. Those feet nail the case perfectly! Seeing the case stripped like that is kinda like looking at a lady in lingerie and high heels.
