That is going to be one hell of a good looking case! Seriously insane! Can't wait to see how it develops! Any ideas of specs of components yet? Sorry if that has already been answered!

Pretty Awesome!! There actually way someone who did make a CF case 5-6 years ago on the internet. I would have to troll to find it. Though it wont be to the sophiscation that your case is going to be.

$300 for the equipment isnt too bad. I MUST have got AWAY with welding than, cuz I didnt have to buy $10,000 dollar Lincoln Electric Tig welder. The welding services cost me easily $300 though for my last case.

Hey Craig. You need to invest in one of these. That dust all over your table is freaking me out! I'm sure you're wearing a dust mask, but that crap is going to get all over your house. Even when cutting mdf I get very little dust in the shop vac after the vortex separator. Even still, I have a hepa filter on the vac, and point the exhaust out the garage door.

Dude, that's freaking wrong! Love it!! Almost shot coffee out my nose!

Man I'm speechless! Really good stuff this!
And once again, props on great craftsmanship, the fact that this is the first time you work with this stuff, just makes it all that much more impressive.
Your perfectionism is most likely to blame ;)

I was really quite surprised as well. I'm not sure other cutting tools would fare as well, but the discs performed wonderfully. I was livestreaming some of this last night.

    http://losias.net/losias-live/

You have to go to the menu on the video player, and it's under the on-demand library. You can see how well it cut.

I probably should have done that before I started cutting. I'll get some great shots after I get the final layer of resin on though. It will be worth the wait. :thumb:

Lol, maybe I can at least find something to compare it to.

    Wow, lol. Thanks. :D

Thanks Fabou. I pride myself on good cuts. I can't accept anything less than perfectly straight.

I answered a few pages back, but I'll repost because it gets lost in the replies sometimes. Unless I upgrade before the case itself is finished, I'll drop my current hardware in there. I've got an Asus Rampage GENE II, i7 920, and a pair of Vapor-X 5870's. I'll compliment the board with MIPS northbridge and mosfet blocks, and a Heatkiller 3.0 for the CPU.

Was it a CF scratch build? Other than MKmods, RendermanDan, or Langer I've not seen much use of fiber. I would love to see more. Maybe this will start a CF revolution!

No, it's not bad, and especially when you consider the future use I'll get out of it.

I so need one of those! I can seclude most of my mess to the shop itself, but I hate cleaning that crap up off of everything, and of course, a mask is mandatory. That would sure simplify the cleaning.

Thanks man! It may be the first time I've worked with CF, but that's one of the reasons I made reusable mold. I was completely prepared to redo the case if I needed to. There was absolutely no way I was going to give up or change my plans, and I needed perfect execution. I'll never say anything I do is perfect, but yes, I do strive for perfection. Otherwise those issues, no matter how small, really get to me...

The device barry pointed out is nice, but siphoning the dust through water works much better. -Hard to breathe mud. Both require the 5 gallon bucket.

    The CF work looks good!

Yup. I use my shop vac 1/4 filled with water when I'm cutting Aluminum/Copper.

    Yes, I believe it was!!

I think what has made CF not a traditional material for use is the COST!!! Over the past decade though, the cost of CF has come down quite a bit, if not, alot. Revolution?? No! In my belief, this idea has been on many minds of ppl. Evolution, Yes! The community will see more builds from CF now cause of your worklog and price point than in the past. Can the same Comparsion be made between Me and la carotte d l'o and our builds with the extensive use of Welding???!!!! Hopefully! You sure got me interested though in CF again with the price now down.

I reallly want to use Titantium though.

    Thanks man!

Yes, I'll definitely look into a solution like that

    Thanks Shadow!

Whether revolution or evolution I'd sure like to see more of it!

There was one of those in my house growing up. We didn't have pets in the house, but it sure was amazing what you'd find in there.

Well guys, I've got some bad news, my quest for perfection is going to cause a delay in moving in with part of this project... I've decided I'm not happy with a few things. I don't feel the outer edges are 'sharp' enough. I think a side effect of the initial multiple layers of CF and the resin hardening too soon, have left things more rounded than I would like. The only way to fix this is to sand the case down, and add another layer of fiber. I can't just sand down what I have and resin because I'll have to sand through a little CF to get it flat. Obviously that will kill the cosmetics. While most of you think it looks great, it's just something that I've decided will bug me. I can't put countless hours into it, only to wish I had fixed it. So, what now? Well, luckily I still have work to do... I'll go ahead and start on the side panels. I've got to order more fiber, and the side panels will allow me to fill the time until it arrives.

I did notice the corners were a bit rounded after removing it from the mold, but I thought it was just a by-product of building up so many layers of cf. I think the only ways to get it naturally sharper is to either use less layers, or go with a reverse mold so your outer layer will be the sharpest and the inner most layer would be the roundest. Both solutions are less than preferable because fewer layers means a weaker shell, and I know you mentioned earlier that a reverse mold would be a pita to work with.

Maybe you can just add more resin over what you have on the shell now, and sand that down to sharpen the edges? That way you won't be sanding into the fabric.
