Wouldn't you be better off doing something a little different and having the heatsink directly on the pump instead of with the air gap (I know how warm those things can get sometimes)?

No worries man, the heatsink does sit directly on the pump... :D

The pump looks like a DDC with a EK/DD top on it to me.

Lol, well, you'll have a lot to catch up on when you get back! :D

It's a DDC 3.25, and even though it's not accurate in the CAD, I'll be using an Aqua Computer DDC top.

Wait, why do you need a heat sink on that pump!?!? I use/used MCP655/355s and I don't see them getting that hot. Perhaps this is because of little airflow around the pump in this case?

Lol, it's what I do man!

The DDC 3.25's are 18w pumps, and are rumored to run a little warmer than the 3.2's and prior. My previous 3.2's did get warm enough under continuous use that I thought this addition would make sense. It also gives me a great way to mount the pump. You are right about overall airflow. There are so many components packed in this case, that cooling of certain parts becomes a concern. It certainly can't help to play it on the safe side.

Thanks mate! My original inspiration comes from Bei Fei on the XS forums. He used to make something similar in concept. I hadn't seen the Koolance heatsink before, but it's pretty close in design. The biggest differences would be in the way mine is mounted, and the fact that the Koolance unit replaces the DDC casing. I actually like the idea of the casing being replaced. Bah, now it might be just as easy to modify the Koolance unit to fit my application. That's not nearly as much fun though! :D

Lol. It's likely not that necessary, but I still liked the idea. :)

I'm back at it guys! With the adhesive label in place, it was time to add my masking tape guide lines.

Time to break out the Dremel! I had to take it slow and steady here. You can't exactly fix any miscuts or slips... Even so, I managed to make quick work of the carbon fiber, and was soon left with a rough cut.

After some filing, and sanding, I was left with the finished hole! My patience paid off, and I was left with a hole that was visually perfect to me. Now I've only got about 6 more to go.
