Hi all First of all i would like to thank you all for taking the time to look at my post and hopefully give me your input. This is my first project, so i may need your help a long the way. I feel that it is time to start work on a new faster and better PC. I have been thinking about this for some time now, but i've never really had the time or money to start on this project. At last i've got the change to build my system . Here is the spec of the system i had: Mobo: MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR CPU: AMD Athlon XP-M 2500 @ XP 3200 Heat sink: Thermaltake Venus 12 Memory: 2x Dual Channel PC3200 512mb Geil Case: Thermaltake Xaser III w/ Window GFX Card: Abit Siluro™ FX5800 DOTH Deluxe CD/RW: MSI CR52-A2 52x24x52x DVD/RW: Pioneer DVR107 x8 HDDs: 120Gb Maxtor SATA and 160Gb Maxtor Plus 9 Sound: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy ZS 71 THX and Creative Labs Inspire 6.1 6700 Speakers UK Fans: 3 Blue LED Case Fans and 4x LED Case Fans I've sold the mobo, cpu, gfx card and memory. It's now time to bring in the new hardware for the system. Here is some of the new hardware: Mobo: MSI K8N Neo Platinum nForce3 250 CPU: AMD 64 3200+ 1mb Cache Memory: OCZ 1GB (2x512MB) PC4200 Dual Channel EL Graphics Card: PNY GeForce 6800GT HDDs: 2x 120GB Maxtor SATAs It's looking like a nice set up and i've had it all up and running. I've flashed the GT to Ultra speeds and it came with the 16 pipes . The system runs very nice and fast up against my old system. Now the next step is tidy up my case and make it look better. At the minute the cables from the PSU are all over the place and a bit messy in there, so i've got a braiding kit and new molex plugs. Here are some more bits that i'm going to add to my case: 2x 45cm UV Red Rounded Cables Akasa Day-Glo UV Red Rounded Floppy Disk cable 3x Day-Glo UV Green SATA Cables 12" Dual Blue Cold Cathode Lighting Kit 12" Dual UV Cold Cathode Lighting Kit 2x Akasa Sound Proofing Kits 98mm x 60mm LCD Screen and Silver Bezel 2x Coolermaster Silver CD/DVD Bezels 3.5 Fan Controller UV Blue Molex Plugs Blue Cable Braiding Kit Titan TWC-04 Water Cooling Kit UV Green Water Dye I'm going to be turning to water to cool my system down as the fan i have at the minute is abit noisy. This is the kit that i have brought: I know what your thinking that it's not the best i could get, but i'm just starting with water, so i wanted something easy to use. The case i have now is a Thermaltake Xaser III, abit like this one: I want something with a little bit more room and something i can really get my teeth into. I've been looking for a case with 5 bays, but not been having much look . I want something like a server case or a cube, but they cost like £100 plus and i don't have that sort of money. If anyone works for a company that has an old server case doing nothing lying around could you let me know please Well that's my project. Once i get my hands on a case i will update the project with some ideas of what i will be doing to it. At the minute i'm hoping to paint the case, add a dragon design and a window I'll keep you posted
once this turns into a fully fledged project log according to the project log rules send me a PM and i will move it back into the PL forum basically, once you get some pics up of solid work on the case
were didja get that water cooling kit???? i googled it and found a few reviews but nobody sellin them and judgein from the reviews i read it not a bad lil kit at all I want one too
some one on the forums was selling it . I maybe selling it soon as i've started to get the odd bit's for another set up
Well i've been looking for the case for the project and i found these two: Case 1 and Case 2 Review another case i have found that is some buy is this: Super Buy If this case was only 2" small i could fit it under my desk then . Anyway, which case some i go for? I have some nice ideas for the case. I'm going to start drawing up some plans once i know whcih case to get.
well i'vr got a case for my project . It's cheap 6 bay case that i got off ebay. I might still go for a Lian Li PC71 for xmas . I'm going to paint the case black and fit a plane like fan in the front of the case. I've started to get some water parts together for my system and only need the blocks and res now. I'm basing the case on resident evil and i've ordered a umbrella case viynal and a S.T.A.R.S window ecthing. I've also ordered a PSOne screen for the front of the case . Once i have more i'll post again
well i'm back again , i've got another update for you. I've got another case thanks to Azh_fx. It's a Mountainmods UFO case in silver. The case holds 5x 120mm and 4x 80mm fans. All the fans in the case are 14dbs, which is very quiet . The case is 18x18x18 and it's huge . I've got my full water set up now . Here is the spec: DD 12V-D4 Pump DD 6800 Water Block DD RBX Block Athlon64 Black Ice II Xtreme Radiator (Dual 120mm) Floppy Drive Bay Res So what do you think of the water set up? just looking around these look like some good parts and hopefully putting them all together with give me a very good first water set up. I also got the Resident Evil etching from the US, which look really kool. I've also got the new drives for the case which are a Sony DVD-Rom/CDWR combo and Pioneer 108 both in black. The case is silver at the minute, but i want to paint it black. What am i best doing and which paint should i use? Just one last thing, i've got some cable braiding and it's blue and all the plugs are blue. I don't think this would go down well with a Resident Evil case. What do you guys think? i don't want to spend more money then i need to.
I want to paint my case, which is powder coated. Do i need to sand the case down or do i just spray over the top of it? also what paint do i need to use?
i don't really know i'm using the picture of the case i was shown until i can take some new pictures of the case
looking good, but you didnt have enough room in your Xazer III?? I've got one, and i sometimes think of crawling inside and bringing my monitor and kb/mouse with me. its got tons and tons of room.. I spose not as much as a server case, but still nonetheless, happy modding
I tried fitting a water system in it, but there wasn't much room for me The case has been great for me, but it's now time to move on
Buy my YY Cube and you'll have plenty of room . Looking interesting, will keep my eye on this project .
Watch out for those CoolerMaster alloy bezels...they are not as universal as they claim. I used them on one project and, although they did end up looking nice ( and working!), it was far more involved than the directions would lead you to believe.
long time sine i've been on here with xmas and work. In that time i've built an A64 939 system with a 3500+ Winchester . I've also got a new Tagan PSU and maybe buying a Matrix 4 line LCD with black bezel. I need some input from you guys . I need a black fan controller from one of the 5.25 bays, but i don't know what to get. I would like one that looks good, but i don't want to be paying loads for one. The next thing is the cable braiding. Which colour do you guys think will fill the colour of the Tagan and the style of the project?
As far as painting goes, I got the best painting handbook I've ever seen from here: www.paintyourownguitar.com Using Krylon spray lacquer (yes, in the cans!) I redid my brother's guitar 'til you can count your freckles in the reflection! Basically spray 6 thin coats of color (you can mask and spray any designs you want, then more coats of clear, wetsand and rubbing compound. It comes out unbelievably good! I'd post a pic of the guitar if I had a place to host it...
umm sorry to but in but with post like theese and your cable sleeving thread dont you think its just better to make up your own mind. I mean reallly asking people what color your case and sleeving should be takes the creativity out of pesonalizing a case
