no, its a CNC mill, the oil feed is a give away, plus the chuck!
Thanks a lot everyone.
Snipe Dog - It's a CNC router - I use toolpath to prepare all the code and transmit to the machine for me. The router is incredibly versatile 0-30,000RPM, 0-400IN/min travel speed, ~6'x12' cutting area, and it recently underwent a full 3-axis conversion.
As mentioned yesterday... videos:
This first video shows just how long it takes to cut out 1 single slot on the front panel. There's something like 50 fins on the front panel alone.
This one shows the cutout for the MatrixOrbital Typhoon GX that will be mounted tot eh back of the case. It's sole purpose will be to scroll thanks to sponsors and supporters.
Here we have the SSD mount - note the extensive amount of burring going on. Fear not the burring only happens badly on the trailing edge, I setup the cut direction so that the trailing edge always falls on the scrap and not on my parts. This doesn't make for perfection, because I had to guesstimate the proper settings and method for cutting copper, but it does make life a little easier.
I took this video to show the Carbon Cutting process. The Carbon is cut much slower (10in/min, compared to the 100in/min used for copper) and also it's cut in a single pass. I have lots of experience with cutting Carbon - it's easy for me to get a perfect burr free edge every time.
Thanks for watching. Tune in soon.
I just had a quick look through the videos, very cool, a great insight.
Ah well that explains everything I didnt notice the chuck before lol and I was very confused as to why the panel stock was laid out on a piece of wood instead of iron slats
is the burring a major problem on the copper? it seems a solution would be to add lifts into the path if its possible to make a clean re-entry with that bit....
In short, no the burring is not bad. I do my last pass at a dedicated point on the cutter, ensuring a a sharp spot would be used for all the final passes. The last pass moves inwards 0.010" just to clean off any leftover smeg.
Copper presents many issues though:
It's very soft making it impossible to clamp perfectly flat.
It absorbs heat like nobodies business, meaning that you have to make very gentle passes to avoid heat warping.
It's somewhat self lubricating which is a big plus.
However that lubricating nature makes it very gummy. Because it dissipates heat so fast the little chunks flying off harden quickly had gum up the cut (luckily only on the trailing edge when using a 2 flute cutter).
I figured out the process well enough though. I do have lots of filing to do... but that's a tale for another day.
Love those machine-sounds Nice to see this
Thanks for the insight on the process Jesse, now get to work
Someone introduced me to the My Brute Flash game today.
I just signed up and it's really easy... somewhat addicting as well.

Make a fighter and take me on.
I think many of you will actually find it really entertaining as I have.
Enjoy - I know I am. Hahaha.
(what's with the addicting nature of Flash games?)
So... Do you need anyone to watch your place when you're gone?
To say i am Envious of your Designing and Craftsmanship skill, I am afraid would just be an understatement , I am only half way through reading this project of yours and it has got me glued to the screen
A great big thanks for posting this
You need to get some minions to help you with this assembly project. Young, female, energetic, what am I missing?
i say that alot
but i dont know about the latter of the highlighted statements
The CF cutting video was just AWESOME!
I remember sex! But then again I remember Eisenhower as President of the US. Go Figure.
I have a bet going that I can hit 100 pupil in 24hrs - I NEED YOUR HELP.
You can help by clicking below and making a Brute - the fights are automated so it only takes a couple mins.
Thanks again everyone!

thats not fair! you had a BFB (Big ****ing bone)!!!!!!
i only had my fists
This belongs in my sig.

btw, are you undergrad or grad? i assume u are a electrical engineer or something
Actually looks pretty entertaining. I played that DinoParc game for a little while, made by the same people.
