Case Mod - In Progress Project: Purple HAF

As you're about to see, I really like the Cooler Master HAF 912. I used it for my AMD Bulldozer mod and now I'm using it again. This time, however it's going to be my daughters' (I have two of 'em) new playroom PC. They currently have an HP Slimline that is four years old. It features the first AMD dual core, the Athlon X2 3800+, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB HD and the GeForce 8400.

Nothing super fancy, just a mod for my kids



Once again I stripped the whole thing down to the base metal



And blasted it with Krylon Plum paint!





And I painted the front panel mesh purple too



All of the original black plastic will be repainted to white

 

Once the paint had dried, I reassembled the front bezel



And added the 200mm UV purple fan



Next came the DVD drive and Cooler Master logo



I painted the hard drive bay white to contrast the purple. Funny this is, I won't even be using a 3.5 inch drive



Next, I finished painting the right panel



Time to look at my components. First off is the PC Power & Cooling 600 Watt modular PSU



I scoured my modding area looking for DDR3 and found two 4GB OCZ sticks and two 1GB Crucial sticks for a total of 10GB of RAM!!



Here's my motherboard. It's an AM3+ board too just in case I only want to swapt the proc in the future. I even bought two Purple SATA data cables.



I'm going to add the PSU to the case first



Except that I don't want the Volts/Amps sticker on top of the PSU





The water cooling gromets went back on too





I put the Processor and memory on the board, but I can't test it till I buy a heatsink







I love that the PSU is modular. I only need to add the one SATA power cable for the hard drive and DVD. One of the SATA leads will be adapted to power the lights and fans in the case too







I've already added one of the purple lights to the drive bay. It should shine on the video card

The name of this mod caught my eye haha

The white and purple go quite well together, i'm interested to see more

 

Just a heads up mate, I had one of those purple LED clusters in my case for a bit- total crock of ****, not bright in the slightest. I think the problem is that it spreads the LEDs focus spot too wide. My advice, get cathodes or strips.

 

Very nice so far. Good to see other people using different colours too!

I picked up a Cooler Master S524 Heatsink



But decided it needed to have a 140mm NZXT fan instead









The Sapphire 6770 is a stupid amount of overkill for this build



And I still have to clean up the wiring, but I'm still waiting for a few more parts









The PC boots just fine. I hate how there's no longer a screen that says what processor you're using and how much RAM is installed



One thousand posts and it only took me 6 years!

 

I got these great 120mm UV Purple fans on eBay. These are hard to find!



Two are intakes on the front



And a rear exhaust



Then I painted the 2.5 inch drive adapter to match the bay



I'm using a Sandisk 120GB SSD. This will be the only hard drive in the system





And its mounted in the bay



I also added two UV cathodes to the case



Now to add the window



I wound up going a bit bigger then I originally had planned, covering the HAF logo



But I made a stencil so I could put a new, slightly smaller one in it's place



Next I paint the panel. Actually I already have, but it's coming out like crap

 

ah shame about the panel such a pain redoing hard work lol ...other than that its looking very nice n clean!

 

'Too cold to paint anything' is my first guess. It looks like the paint isn't sticking and running off.
The pitting is easy: Your jig saw is throwing oil.

Yeah, it took you 6 years to make 1000 posts, but look at the content you put in them. If you did one picture a post, you'd have more posts than Bindi.

 

Congratulations on your 1000th post! And shame about the panel, only worth trying again when it's hotter.

 

Love the idea of a Fun PC for the kids, May wind up doing something similiar myself down the line.

Don't stress about the paint, I agree with the above posts about it probably being too cold and the pitting may be thrown oil, Or possibly just the unmixed paint in the bottom of the can contaminating it.

Oh, and this is my first post, But Congratz on your 1000th

 

I was thinking about how attention to detail could make or break a project, so I painted the slot covers too

 

You should paint the I/O panel white too.
Make it match the rest~

 

I'm not pulling out the board at this point

 

Here's the mesh I used to cover the back of the GTX 560 on my OCZ mod



After I cut it to size, I also cut out a piece of paper to use as a substrate



Then I painted the mesh



And I used some double-sided adhesive tape



To bond the paper and mesh to the card

 

You can't paint the material on the I/O plate anyway. HDPE is a non-stick surface. -vinyl tape?
In fact, white electrical tape would be good for a cheap accent material.

 

One tip:

When using spray cans, put them in a pot with boiled water,turned up side down and hold them for a couple of minutes. That will melt paint and you will avoid what happened on side panel.
