i ordered a bunch of LEDs from www.LSDiodes.com a while back and i couldnt decide what to put them into (my case is still in the works. so i ended up buying this new mouse. with some inspiration from Zap with his green LED mouse, i decided to mod my razer because ive never seen this mouse modded before =) here are teh pics. sorry bout the blurryness =p; (1 5mm 6000mcd green led, 3 3mm 6000mcd green leds, 1 5mm 6000mcd white led) this is a shot durring the day. =p here is a shot with the lights out - cool eh? its really ALOT brighter than that again, lights out - with white LED off same shot with the white in the middle on and here are a few of the innards with lights on\off again sorry for the blurryness, but its just hard to capture somthing that is glowing =P espically with an old sony maciva 800x600 camrea =P and like i said, its much more of a RICH green rather than a turquoise-ish color - a nice deep green color- espically in the dark! i cant wait to get the case thats going to match underway (was an old thread about it HERE sorry bout the pictures being down, some are still there) and im gonna wait for socket939\PCI-E what do you think of my Razer:Viper? good? bad? anything else i could do to it? tell me what ya think!!!
yep! replaced the red with a 6000mcd white (5mm) led. exact same as if it hadnt been modded. mouse has no differing effects. this is how i did it (cant take pictures cuz its too hard to focus... take the PCB out, ther is a top plastic piece and a bottom plastic piece, the bottom comes off cuz its not connected (the lense) and then there are 2 sections of little clips that were hidden by the lense piece, push those in, and push up so that the LED case detaches from the PCB. then CAREFULLY pull the LED case upward\away from the PCB - DO NOT DO THIS FAST OR YOU MIGH PULL THE LEGS OF THE LED OUT OF THE PCB AND THIS IS VERY BAD! - then go find a spare razor blade (might break\chip so make sure its a crappy one not a new one like mine ) and insert it into the little opening between the LED and the CLIP that is holding it into the plastic case, and bend the razor so it will un-clip the led from the casing... and vollia! moddin time! basically i just used the little 5-pin connector for 5v+and GND. i just shoved some spare cut-offs from the LED's legs and bent them to V shapes and slammed them into the little crimped slot for 5v+ and GND. then proceeded to wire the LEDs in parallel with little wires gotten from a spare floppy cable that was broken BUT REMEMBER! THIS MOUSE WAS KINDA EXPENSIVE! so when you remove the sticker to take the mouse apart. it WILL void your warranty =) if you need pics of how i took the mouse apart ill be glad to supply them =) mm. well the buttons have this weird matte finish... its very hard to explain.. it dosnt feel like regular plastic, looks as if it had been sandblasted with very fine fine sand or somthing to give it a non-slip texture (same as the Razer: Boomslang ones) its actually very comfertable. but i dont know what esle i can do to the mouse (and keep it looking nice) there is definatly not enuf room for a hand fan i know that any suggestions on what you think i could do to it? next i gotta paint my keyboard and finish up my tower... just got my dual 10x10 quadro-pass radiator set up.... ill give you a preview shot tommrrow if i get any more work done on it =). any more comments?
It looks excellent. I'm gathering results so that I can be sure modding my mouse wont... bork it. I like the green, it isnt used often enough.
here is a tip man. i broke a mouse once when you go to take the origional LED out, bend the plastic case that holds it upward, and get a smal pair of wire cutters, and snip the legs off it so the legs come out of the PCB like so _|__|_ then put your new LED into the case, TIN the STILL LONG legs of the new LED and the snipped LED- put everything into place- THEN solder them together. this only requires a touch of the iron, and THEN snip the acess length of wire off the leds! and its much like an L shape, and you dont have to try and bend it or anything. if you do it that way. you are sure to suceed. also if you are gonna install more LEDS, use the 5v+ rail and a resistor using THIS BIT TECH ARTICLE and you can make it all bright too =) have a good one.
I think you should give your brother that mouse and make yourself a new one ^_^ Also, maybe you could somehow put an LED behind the clear gel things on the side of the mouse so they glow as well. That would be hot ****. Great job on the mouse by the way. Just don't mod it while it's plugged in...
um. i did... http://server6.uploadit.org/files/reqreq-6.jpg i could put more of them at the back side so it has a more even glow to it =)
I plan on only replacing the tracking LED, and adding an identical LED in the mouse's reciever. (yes, it's wireless) Thanks for the link, r3Q.
