Found an old salvaged server whilst moving flat.... got this way before I got into modding and was planning on binning it but now I see some possibilities :D

I could do with some suggestions before I start stripping it down. Its going to be a always on downloader/fileserver.

this really does not convey the scale of this beast

not sure what to do about these SCSI raid hot swap bays (I think its going to be SATA)

some of the biggest PC fans I've seen - they make WAY to much noise (planning a budget water system)

space for 2 PSU easy and many many drives.. I'm planning on a custom drive storage

    monster fans !

I like the way the case it split - keeps the hot PSUs away from the MB and nice for stealthing wires

Using the drives as a base for comparrison, it would appear they are 120mm fans not 80mm.

    Just an observation.

Quick observation, where the 3 120 fans are could you fit a thermo3 rad there? now that would be a wicked water setup :D

I like that idea :D thats a definite consideration.

I was planning on including a rad but didn't think there would be one that was quite that perfect

Nice case with lots of potential :thumb: .

However, Ideas/Plans/Pics of unmodded cases belong in Modding as per the Project Logs Rules. When you have started modding work on it and posted the pics, let an admin or moderator know and we'll move it to Project Logs.

Good luck with it all and I look forward to seeing what you do with the case! :dremel: :)

I will be following this one with great interest....these big @$$ server cases allow for so much creativity, and this one has a LOT of potential.

Paint job? Window mods? With the size of that thing, you could actually put in a real window! (note: not an actual recommendation)

With all the extra space and such a pimpin' rig, how about some fuzzy dice hanging from the ceiling? :hip: (that actually IS a recommendation)

Stipped it all down..... there is way more space than I had hoped for :D

Anyway my first decision, I would like to reuse the PSU (nice removable connector unsure of its rating but its not likely to be too low as it a 120mm fan!)

Maybe someone can help clarify (before I start checking with a meter) if PSUs always have the same volts on the same colours? I hope so as its prob. worth salvaging.

That should be some big @$$ psu cause it could run how many scsi H/D plus cd-roms and all the fans in the case

wow that looks like it has 4 atx connectors
the voltages wont tell you how many watts it produces, your best bet would be to look around online for the model number
btw dell has a habit of rearranging the pins on atx conectors

The PSU can cope with 6 HDs, 4 CDROMS and a dual pro MB :thumb: many hours of work it rewire it tho... right now I think it will be worth it :dremel:

does anyone have any feedback on these... "Cape Coolplex 50 extern" Res
I will fit (just) I really like the look

    some progress:

    - stipped down and rivits removed for painting
    - del PSU is way to non-standard, considering replacing it even though its 700W
    - got the plexi (mirror and transparent)
    - 70% case design complete
    - building drive mounting cage

I have this current spec: I'm not sure about the WC components

    MB : Abit AN7 Guru nForce2 Ultra (10/100 LAN, USB 2.0, 1394, 6Ch Audio, SATA, Raid)
    CPU : AMD XP 2500+
    RAM : 512Mb DDR PC3200
    STORAGE : 2xSATA (120Gb Seagate Barracuda) 4xIDE (200Gb Maxtor, 200Gb Western Digital, 90Gb Seagate, 20Gb IBM 2.5)
VIDEO : XFX GeForce FX5500 256MB TV DVI
    COOLING : CPU-Cuplex Rev. 1.3 S462B Cuplex GPU-Undecided CHIP-Twinplex NB PUMP-Eheim 1048 RAD-Black Ice Pro II Dual 120mm RES-Cape Coolplex 25 AIR-2x 120mm low db fans (type undecided)
