"I am sitting here waiting some results" -as my father would say- "if there are no results get up and get back to work" Nahhh... I am just playin! You are to good of a modder to be slacking on such a highly anticpated case! LoL! Anyways dude just waiting to see what you got, your almost there arn't you?
Yep, almost done. A few delays in the electronics for the faceplate and watercooling, but the PC will be cosmeticly ready for QuakeCon. I finaly got the replacement motherboard today. You can see more up-to-date photos, with comments here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/zapwizard/sets/625883/ I will update the project log as soon as I can. Current status of the PC It is actualy drying with clear-coat on it right now. I know clear-coat is cheating, I have no time. I plan on sanding it all off after QuakeCon and applying a high quality wood finish.
I know you already have a wood finish picked out probably but if you would like a nice 2 week long finish i would highly suggest TRU-OIL it is made for gun stocks so it is highly durable and coats quite evenly... i have about 14 coats of it on my case and then buffed it down os now there are probably 10 on it but it is smooth as glass... Anywayz looking good! And it always seem like times gets us in the end i still have things i want to do to my case just no time!
I will keep that in mind when I get back from QuakeCon. After two coats of clear (sanding inbetween) and some wax: Not the glass-like finish I want, but good enough for QuakeCon, not bad for over-night.
Looking good! Like you said a quick overnight finish, bug I cant wait to see what the people say at quakcon! I know you had more in mind but TIME doesnt believe in letting us win everytime! The best thing about this case is you stuck to your original design and not alot has changed that i can see! i wish i could do the same!
Interesting that you ditched the plexi plugs for the Q-prox sensor keys and just filled them with enivrotex. How thick is that and what size sensing cap are you using? I still need to nail that down for my project... the electrode is a penny and it's got 1/8" of plexi and some goop (that's how I glued it in) to go through. Looks very good, I'll be very happy to see it covered in envirotex. Speaking of which, how'd you get the rounded over edges on the plaque you made. I need to find an excuse to play with that stuff
Awsome work so far, love the mix of and and new design/materials. A good inspiraton for everone Are you going to stick with 'Redwood 3.0' tho, Im sure you can compliment it more with something different My suggestion: 'Redwood Envy', as I am quite envious of your skills Keep up the great work!!!!
Starbuck: The envirotex has been a dream I will be using it a lot in the future. Keep it at thin as possible, my sensors are about 1/4" thick and right now it's barely working. (two fingers needed to activate sometimes) Envirotex only settles on flat surfaces, or I would cover the PC in it. The rounded edges on the plaque I made were Cold Cathode tubes. FIBRE+, I am keeping Redwood 3.0 to help point out that it takes lots of work to get to this point. but thanks. Everyone: THE PC IS DONE!...well kinda....good enough for QuakeCon anyways. The PC is totaly functional, 6000+ 3DMark05 without tweaking. The Matrix Orbital LCD is functional. The touch-sensors and panel LEDs are wired but only the DVD part is actualy functional for now. There is still lots of work to come: More with comments here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/zapwizard/sets/625883/
Yer that name makes sense now Very nice, thats one hot bitch! Has it turned out how you want it so far?
So far, yes. But it has been 8 months already. Things I still need to do: -Icons in the button holes -E-mail and CPU hot indicators near the LCD -Touch-Wheel circuit -Watercooling (lots of stuff to do on that) -Wire all LEDs into LCD for dimmer control -Curve corners more to my design -Put a proper wood finish on -And more I am forgeting right now
Everytime i look at the case i sut wnat to cry! I love the white LED feet they really put out a lot of light! As for the case finishing goes you should check out the reflection i get off of my case - http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=95981 !
This mode is truly amazing and ive been following this from the start. There is just one thing I would like to see and thats how this internal stuff looks like if there is any yet. The mobo, radiators and stuff like that. Is there anything mouted?
I love this project. The idea of a wooden PC has always appealed to me, but one made of redwood - even better. Excellent work
Looking good zap, though you didn't answer the cap-size for Cs question. that, and it may just be the way the LEDs shine, but it looks like there is an irregularity on the top of the q-wheel shape. Looking forward to seeing it properly envirotex'd. The edges were cold cathode tubes? meaning you made a mold to form the envirotex? or did you inlay bits of plastic from the CC into the edges? Seems like you could probably round it over just by sanding it, but your edges look too regular for that to be the case. Keep up the good work.
