WARNING: This page doesn't like 56k users (if they exist) I have set up a discussion page for my project so any replies could u post them here Hi everybody another mod while I finish Ice Vs Fire  I was in my dinner break at school the other day and my mate came up to me and said “do you want to buy a case off me for £1?” my immediate reaction was YES! I went over to his house to check the case out and pick it up and it looked okay, so I thought well for £1 I might as well. The case is made of aluminium and seems to have some very light damage on the front but nothing Bondo can’t defeat! When I started thinking about Bondo my mind turned towards MODDING - what I do all the time! - So I cleared my desk and got my paper and pencil out and started the designing (well only for about 5 minutes!) unfortunately I can’t show you the designs because my scanner has gone poop! The case is going to be themed over the colours of Green, Silver and Black and is going to be based on some basic Tribal Designs and some Sci Fi. As soon as I finished the designing stage I began to dismantle the case to its bones- Here’s the top support rail for the 5.25 drives, I plan to remove this. Here’s the front of the case- And disassembled- I then took out the masking tape drew the designs on the left hand side and the top of the case and cut the top designs out using my trusty dremel copy. Design for side window- One of the tribal flames for the topcut out- Both tribal flamesand the 8x 8 cm square for the top cut out- As you can see I cut out an 8cm fan hole and the two custom tribal designs, you are probably wondering how I am now going to mount the fan. So I will tell you now, I am going to mount a piece of AC RYAN green acrylic on the under side of the top of the case then I will screw that on with some rather nice M4 bolts I found, then I will screw the fan to the green acrylic and cut out a 76mm hole for the air to go in then the fan grill will be mounted to the acrylic so the acrylic will be sandwiched to the fan and grill, this should make the grill and top of case nearly the same level and height– hope you understood that! Oh yeah and round the edges of the 8cm hole I cut out there is some light paint work scratches that the dremel caused- luckily there only very faint. So that’s how far I have got today now back to the drawing board for some ideas on fans for the front and back- I want 120mm! Bye! Bye! Rhys
Not much of an update this due to several things but here we go... Today i had my day all set out after school. I planned to go home (on bus) then cut the 120mm blowhole, the cd rom drive support rail off and start the window. But Nooooooo nothing ever go's right! AAARRRRH. The first thing that went wrong was my bus from school was late, then the bus driver decided to crash into a basketball post! Then when i got home i had to walk the dog because my sister was out side and last of all i had to go to a stinking meeting about colleges and Uni's that i want to go to. Lucky day eh? What i did manage to do though today was a few things (4)! Firstly there was a aluminium support rail on top of the cd rom drive bays, this wasnt really needed as the drive cages were quite strong and stable anyway. The reason why i got rid of it is simply because when you look through one of the tribal designs on the top, you could see the support rail which was really ugly! This is before- and with the blooming thing removed- The next thing i done... well started was the 120mm fan for the front. I got to... well cutting the hole which was when i had to leave for the meeting thing! This is the the front of the chassis with the 120mm fan template masked onto the case and ready for cutting! And where i started to cut the fan template... looks alright so far.... done with my kinzo- dremel copy! So thats all for now, will hopefully do some more tommorow depending on weather and homework! See you, Rhys
Been a bit busy today peeps! Today went okay most things went to plan apart from I didn’t really get to the cutting the window. Anyway here we go… As I said I started cutting the 120mm blowhole in the front but I had to go to a meeting at school, so I put it back and planned to cut it today- which I did thankfully! All this was done with the help from my Dremel (Kinzo), a sanding drum, a grind stone and reinforced disk attachment which was pretty simple. Here what it was like before- And when I finished the cutting (raw cuts- straight after cutting the circle out with reinforced disk) I found some blowhole trim left over from Ice Vs Fire and tidied the edges up with it. So that’s all I did today but I am quite happy with the progress so far… all I need to do on the hole now is to get a 120mm fan and drill the 4mm holes for it (tomorrow!) That’s all, Rhys
I did a little work yesterday on the case. I couldn’t post it yesterday though because I went to see a GIG. Righty, this is what I did- make your own mind up. First I started off by cutting the grill kind of think that was on the case. You will see what I mean by the photos. So in this photo you can see what I want cut off. I cut it off with a dremel with reinforced disk; it took about 1 minute (literally) Next step was to install the blowhole trim- left over from ice vs fire. This was just to make it look better! Sorry about photo. Then I took a few photos with the grill and fan installed just to show you how sexy it looooks! So that’s what I eventually did yesterday. I should be able to get the window cut today and maybe do some work on the front. Bye Bye Does anybody know any good guides on spraying Aluminium? Cheers Rhys
As I said I would I was going to cut the design for the side window- which I did! The design was pretty simple at took about 1-2 hours at the most. After Cutting it I used a grinding drum on my drill to take off any excess cuts and to make the cuts look better. I haven’t sanded it yet so try to ignore that in the photos. Okay then here they are- This is the window all nicely cut. Ummm and this is how the case stands at the moment (front panel obviously not on) So that’s the chassis nearly finito. Rhys
Hello Folks, I didn’t do much today as I am waiting for the files to arrive but anyway here is a small update for you. I decided to start something new on the case while I wait for the files. I was earlier looking at the front of the case and seeing how the cold air was sucked in through the front, I noticed that the only way the cold air got in was through a small gap on the case front. This annoyed me as it would mean my 120mm fan wouldn’t actually be getting much cold air in very easily at all. Soooooo I got my paper and pencil out and began designing some different designs on the front. The one I chose was to go with my other sharp designs I had going on this case and it also looked pretty cool and I had an idea for it. Once I made the final copy I masked the front of the case and begun drawing the design on and cut it out using a dremel with the smaller more breakable disks as it was only plastic. Once this was cut I started sanding it smooth with some 800grit wet and dry and started of by dry sanding then I eventually went to wet sanding. ^ here is a photo with the design cut out and sanded- u can see some of the edges and corners still need to be sanded which will be done tomorrow. So what am I going to put in its place you wonder? Well I have had a hard think and have chose either just perforated aluminium or green uv acrylic and perforated alu with holes in the acrylic inline with the holes on the perforated alu. That’s all today and I will get some more work done tomorrow hopefully. Rhys
Sorry about this long wait for an update, I have been busy with school work lately and playing Rome Total War! I have managed to make some progress though thanks to the brilliant Rory Hamilton at blackdog-pcs- brilliant website for modding supplies. I lately got sponsored some stuff by blackdog-pcs and they sent to me A.C.Ryan UV Reactive Acrylic, A.C. Ryan Black perforated aluminium and 1 green and 1 black A.C. Ryan MORF PSU Modding kit. I was very pleased what Blackdog- pcs sent me and they ROX! Firstly today I got started by cutting down the old hard drive bay because I thought it was hideous and I would never need that amount of hard drives that the bay had space for, so I to cut it down to size. ^before ^ Afterwards, I finished the edges off with some PVC beading. I planned to make the new hard drive bay out of aluminium angle but I thought as this is project sci- fi I needed something that looked a bit more sci- fi so I read Frodo’s guide in his project on bending acrylic so I decided to give it a first go. So I heated it up, bent the acylic to 90 degrees and tar dar it worked!! ^ Here is an image of it where it will be in the case- right behind the 120mm fan hole!! Then I needed holes for the bay otherwise the hard drives wouldn’t screw in so I measured the holes up, marked it with a permanent pen, and drilled a 4mm hole with my trusty hand operated drill! I came up with a idea earlier as well to mount led’s in the acrylic hdd bay so all the edges glow, I will get some photos up on this tomorrow hopefully. Also the demons face- as ov3rclock3r calls it- has had A.C.Ryan black perforated alu put behind it- I don’t know if u can see it in the photo but it looks pretty cool. While I was at it I sanded down the front of the case as well ready for painting. Tommorow I need to do some more work as well mainly filling in the holes and stuff at the bottom of the case and back so I may get another update done. I need some comments from this please I want to know what you think. ;p Rhys
Hey d00ds and d00dettes, Not been to busy today but have got some work done thankfully. On the bottom of the chassis of the case was loads of holes and I didn’t like the look of them so I decided to try and fill them in using body filler from my local tool shop. I just whacked the filer on in very thick coats to give it strength. I also didn’t like the holes on the back of the case so I done that as well- went a bit mad with the filler! I was bored to I decided to take a few shots of my very messy garage in its current state. The pool table in my garage is a custom built kind of one and I forgot to take the actual pool table bit off so I’m not really working on the usual table I work on. ^another project! While I was at it I thought I might take some photos of my brother’s chick turning into a chicken and an incubator which has lots of eggs in. – strange boy! O yeah I said earlier in the log that I was waiting for my new files to arrive, well they did and I have done some filing on the side and top. ^ still needs a bit more work though That’s all for today, Rhys
That aint a aluminium case, its just very thin metal (got 4 of exactly those cases, got em for like 10 quid) This project looks sweet, dunno where you got £1 from tho, that looks more expensive than a quid
