That wood is beautiful what type of wood is it? I don't know about Australia but here in the U.S. you can get small cylinders of oxygen and acetylene for melting the rods(not sure if that's the same as MAP/pro gas) It us mostly used for cutting steel and braising. The case looks awesome so far keep it up I like the 1 piece case design very different. Im amazed how people make their own back plates separately from the MB tray and get them to match up perfectly. How do you do it? Im thinking of doing a scratch build case and would like any tips you can give. Keep up the good work its looking great i look forward to more.

OA, should weld aluminum but it is very hard, and not really the right way to do it. Welding aluminum with a torch is difficult because Aluminum heats up very fast, melts at a lowish temp, and oxidizes easily. If you don't have a tig welder, I think the next best option is to braze it.

    Looking good so far though.

Umm tips.. practice on scrap. Look on the ATX form factor site and measure old cases...
Yea the backplate will be fun! I hope I got my measurements right, but you will find out soon enough. The wood is Quilted Maple, look back in this thread for more info on it :)

Yea I tried brazing it but I cant get the parent panel to stay hot enough... Meh maybe I'll take it to a metal workshop and get them to weld it for me...

Nice stuff you got going there,

Yeah A good metal shop with a good welder (person and machine) should be able to do it well. They might also have another way of doing it, and the price shouldn't be too steep.

    Good Luck

now this is intresting.....very good work on the case profile with out a brake, good thinking that!....however that may be a problem if you intend to weld it as the heat needed to form a pool in 3mm alu will blow through the corner rad of the bends.(they look about 0.6-0.8mm thick?) to weld it i would tig it with full penetration and then dress back the outside to your needs, also did you say you filled the gap with superglue? if you did then you have contaminated all the weld area alu needs to be spotless for welding, the glue vapor will lift the weld off as it will vaporise and a build up of smut stops the weld forming. other than the above issu....very nice work.
im a alu welder/fabricator so if i can help ya mate just ask!

    thanks for the tips!

Yea the case is now epoxied and is pretty strong. I wouldn't be able to get the 2 apart without fudging something up... I still would like to weld it but maybe not as I dont have much alloy left and I got the feeling I would need a new faceplate... Once I move back to a major city I'll get more alloy and weld up the shell.

Don't joke about the dog in your case, I have a 100lb Lab and he creates FUR puppies all around the house I swear that he sheds the equivalent of a Poodle every week! Nice progress and the pictures are nice I like the second one a bit better. Something about the Eyes. Keep up the quality work.
