So you already got a new dremel? guess your paycheck doesn't come only once a year Btw, depending on the CPU and GPU you are going to use, maybe a snap-in DC-DC powersupply would come in handy in your project. MyElectronics.nl has them. They're quite small (especially the picoPSU model wich is not much bigger than an ATX 20 pin plug), and available up to 200 watts, with 96% efficiency. If you're not planning on using very high power equipment, you could get one of those. Would save a lot of space inside the case. Using laptop harddrives and CD/DVD players also cuts need for high power PSU's and again takes less space. A little idea: maybe you could put a small LCD screen where the sinuswave display was.
The project is not dead. Still workíng on it but i dont got a camera anymore to show the progress. For the frontpanel. i got a PSone lcd where the screen used to be and i use a slimline cd drive which is also in place now. I worked long time on the back panel to make the PCI slot and I/O panel cutout. Took my ages as i had to cut tru 5 mm aluminium and i tell u my dremel barely made it. I dont speak about the wast amount of disks i needed!!! I used the parts i had for a HTPC and now i whaiting for new stuff to get. Dunno yet if i should whait for AM2 or go now for 939 as it would be cheaper.
Lil update on the Frontpanel. I made a sketch of how it should be made. The programm i use is from a German CNC Company and i could order the Panel strait from there if i want to. The Big cutout on the left is the LCD, the small square one on the lower right is the Slimdrive. Then we have Power button and Keyswitch on the top, 3 Toggle switches in the second row and finaly 2 Fancontroller in the last row.
I hope you get a camera (even a phone camera) soon, as i definatley want to see some more pictures of this machine. I like where its heading, and hopefully you finish it up. Nice work as far as i can tell, but more pics please
Picture Time!!! Got a friend over to borrow his camera. Sorry if the Pics are not the best but i am a horrible Photographer First off is the frontpanel with LCD and Slimdrive in place. Here a lil closeup of the Slimdrive. From the back with the Slimline to IDE adapter and some closeups of the frame Next is the LCD. As you might know i use a 5" PSone Screen. To fit it to the Frontpanel i used a Sandwich System. The Screen is fixed to a Backplate with four screws and the Backplate is fixed to the Frontpanel. Here you see how tight the fit on the cutout was. Fits just perfect and i didnt had to do anything Thats all for now. Hope you like it!
Thanks for the comments. I hope that i can deliver more small updates over time, so you guys dont have to whait so long
Update Time!!! Sorry for the delay but i am pretty busy ATM couse i move next week to a new apartment and that mean this is gone be the last update for the next 3 weeks . Ok on with the Pics. First of is the Motherboard tray. Its not in its final state but i think you see where i am going with this. Next the Backplate. I tell you this was the worst part of all!!! 5mm thick Alu is a horror to cut. And now with I/O plate. Looks nice dosnt it? Anyway thats when desaster strikes! I had a slight change of plans a couple of weeks back (position of the PSU) and i didnt change my messurments for the Backplate . So this is what happens: I am 10mm of from where i should be! So now i have to figure out how i can make this work. But isnt it the Modders spirit to make thinks work which arent supposd to? Thats it for now, I hope you like it! Thanks
I wish ye luck, I like the direction that this mod is going, I would have loved to see the slimline right under the lcd however, but it is your mod! !!!
Thanks dabbe! How is your box coming along? I want to see something when the school starts again. @WR Here is the reason why i couldnt install it right under the LCD. It just barely fits where it is.
I've started the project all over with a new look.. but working hard.. I think I'm gonna take pics and maybe make a project log. Not sure yet
nice mod hoing on.... it's gone be portable???, are you gonna do the osciloscope thing on the screen??? looks great
Thanks for the commends! @axscpu Yeah its gone be portable. I just gone use it for Lan Partys and its not that big, only 37,5 x 27,4 x 18 cm, which is good and bad. I have alot of problem ftting everything inside, thats why it takes so long. I have to messure and messure and messure everything 3 times and still i make failures . I am just human! P.S. In a week school starts again and then i have excess to some proper Tools which means I gone step up the pace!
