Project : SKULL march 10

Now here is my first mod. I have been looking at guides, worklogs and case mod gallery, to finally jump in the modding universe.


I will mod a Aopen HQ08.



I wil try to mod this bare case into to this.



Front of case will have from top to bottom
- DVD drive
- 3 40mm fan duct
- 4 x 20 LCD display
- PWM Fan controller for 5 fans
- Power button
- SKULL cut-out
- 120mm fan duct

Top of the case is not a blowhole. It will be some kind off laser beam made of red leds.

On left side I will be cutting out a big half skull with my friend The Dremel.

And for the right side I do not have any ideas for the moment but I'm open for any suggestions.

I have made my skull template and completed my dremel cut out of the skull on side panel.


I printed this skull and made the cutting with a raser blade took me about an 1 hour I was then ready to trace ou the skull on the side panel.

And here is the result of a couple of hours of dremel cuting and major dust.




You can see the frame of the in the skull that will be cutted out.

Next I will make the 120mm fan duct.

Just completes my fan duct here are my results

First started with mesurement



And after some dremel and bad plastic smell this is what it looks like



I then applied some bondo to the fan duct and drive bays as well



Here the sanded bondo



More bondo



Next wil be the 2 fan duct the LCD cut out and also the front SKULL bone like cut out.

Got up early this morning and did little things to my mod.

Here I cutted out the two rear blowholes


And the dismentled the hole case.


Once dismentled I cutted the plate where the cd drive and psu rest so when all is mounted you won't see a bar going throught the skull


After all this done I will prime and paint the interior of the case in red and will post the paint results tomorrow.

 

Finished painting the interior of the case and here is the results, and i'm pretty happy and it was a practice with aerosol paint

I just finished painting the MB tray and the power supply will post pics tomorrow.

 

Painted MB tray and psu. I primed and painted. Here are some pics.







My nest step will be painting the out side case.

 

Just a suggestion, though it would look a lot better if you remove and paint the brackets on the cards that are on the system. Also the I/O sheild. Other than that it looks very good so far. And awsome work on the skull cutout btw

Updated march 15

Here's some off my work done on the front case.

I cutted out the SKULL text made off bones letters



I also made the cut for the LCD and the 2 small fan ducts





And applied first coat of primer after some bondo work, sandind more bondo, sanding and first coat primed.



After 30 minutes of drying there where to much bondo bumps and unevenness between the drive bezel and the frame. I wasn't to amazed by my work so decided to completly strip out the 2 fan ducts and lcd window.




All of that remove made some minor touch up.

I'm thinking of replacing it with some mesh or plexi I dunno. If you have any suggestion please feel free to help a fellow modder in is creation. Oh and the 120mm fan duct and skull cut out are staying the are perfect.
