That's about as close as the fit on the rad in my P4 system. It's literally touching the bottom two PCI slots and has about 2mm to the side panel
Part III The final installment of the work done over the weekend. The case was taken apart and cleaned of all metal shavings and dust. I came to the conclusion that the plastic drive bay hardware would have to stay. It will get covered by an acrylic plate (mirrored or green not sure at this point). Lets paint. The paint is a satin black. The case sucked up paint like a spunge, and alas I ran out before I had the finish I need. But these pictures will give you an idea of what I will end up with. Well, that is it. Out of paint and time The case needs 2-3 more coats of black and then it will get 2-3 coats of green UV clear coat. Perhaps next weekend. MS
looks good mate, now i have to go and track down this other project everyone is takling about (new to the site) i look forward to more updates
Very nice work on the paint job. Also, the top res cover plate looks awesome as well as the radiator. Good job and keep up the good work. Looking forward to more pictures.
hmm weird it seems that they are cf but man its just weird. They seem to have different varieties of theese sound dampeners and I found two that clearly show the weaving ( zoom in ) http://www.amusicdirect.com/products/detail.asp?cat=310&sku=ABDRPUCKM3 http://www.amusicdirect.com/products/detail.asp?sku=ABDRMPM3 that shows the characterstic carbon fiber weave. As far as i know carbon fiber needs to be weaved in order for it to gain strength. I read on one of the reviews that theese are "finished in a black gloss" So perhaps they must have used a black binding compound. sorry for sounding rude, nice mod there buddy
That is the place I purchase the cones from! Your links are of "pucks" which go under the cones. Carbon Fiber is a mystery to me.. BUT they look cool, and fit the project.. You seem to know MUCH more about this stuff than I do, so I will let you call it "heads/tails"..
i know this problem with the "Out of paint and time" with my case it's the same *lol* it sucked up the paint like a spunge too. And i must order a new set. it's a expensive hobby
carbon fibre does have to be weaved to have any strength YES BUT the weave isnt always visible if a piece of weaved carbon fibre is sanded down to a fine grit, it looses the look of the weave (although visible, the different colours etc) this can then be sprayed over this i believe is what those feet have had dont to them, they are weaved CF but have been sanded and sprayed gloss black im loving the case so far, keep up the kickass work!
The feet/cones work well for this build, the way this case takes in air is from the bottom. So, adding a few inches of ground-clearance is a must (IMO). I picked up more paint and hope to get a few more coats on the case Friday. I really want to see how the green UV clear coat will work out. But, 2-3 more coats of black first.
I finished the stain black paint on the interroir of the case (and it's side panel). I won't pain you with more pictures of "paint drying" but I did want to show you the clearcoat I used on top of the black. This is a picture of the HD rack (won't be using it) painted with the black& UV clearcoat. Then no flash, and the set of UV CCFL's on. With the green acrylic windows (also UV reactive), this thing will glow like Chernobyl.... Until next time.
Mmmm... glowey Is it brighter in real life or is the UV paint not that effective? Not that you'll need it regardless...
The picture is fairly accurate (perhaps a little brighter in person). The clearcoat is not super-reactive, but it is a nice effect.
Great project!! i love the movie soylent green, and this project is very interesting as far as the implementation of the movie. great work!
