I must say, most people who attempt mods on the cheap side go the easy way and take a case and just improve it both performance wise and visually. You however have taken the hard route and are creating something on the cheap side that is rather impressive, at first glance it looks more like a stacker prototype rather than a wooden case. Its likely too late for this but a wood grain stacker in a rosewood type color would be.... gorgeous.

Maybe the most interesting Stacker-project I've ever seen... And it's not actually a Stacker at all :D

    Good work!

Really awesome man, I never would have thought of using laminate for a material. May I ask if you just glued the custom laminate panels to the existing side panels, or did you make a way to secure them and how? Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the replies :)

Sorry for the lack of update, i'm currently waiting for some parts i need to arrive at the local hardware store.
It should be there tomorrow or in 2 days max, and i can't make some bigger progress on the project without it...

Thats what i had in plan originally, to cut along the side of the panels where the clips are,
then join it together to the laminate panel, but i went with a simpler solution.

Small separable hinges, directly to the panel so i can easily open it partially or simply remove the side panel :)

Right now i'm working on the control panel of the case, but still haven't figure out how to finish it, bcos it has a bit complex shape...

Will be posting an update when i assemble everything, just before the paintjob :thumb:

Separable hinges, so i can remove the door if i like :)

Due to some other business i had to take care of last week, i didn't have much time for the project,
however im working on in the last 2 days in full capacity, and hopefully i'll finish it by the weekend.

I would have finished it by now, but because the local hardware shop has an idiot owner,
who can't memorize 2 words i say, i've been waiting for the locks for the side panels for over 2 weeks :wallbash:

I'll skip the next update, and post a big one after everything is done. :)

    Cheers :dremel:

    Final update

I worked on the project almost all day for the last few days, wanted to finish it bcos i had to get out of the attic finally lol

So i'll get right on it.

I used some laminate to reinforce the side panels.
Tho the panels are glued i wanted to make sure things don't fall a part later on...

Fixed them together with the good ol' cork system lol

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Making of that small part below the stacker doors.
No use of it, purely cosmetic and visual.

I used 3 layers of wood, simply glued together, reinforced a bit with corks.
After glueing it, some sanding, comes wood cement, then sanding it again.
Followed by base coad and paint.
I changed the design of this particular part just a little, nothing dramatic, but i had to do it bcos of the
    doors.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Small hinges were used to attach the doors and side panels.
That was the only solution cheap enough for this.
The side panel hinges had to be fixed to the bottom of the panels, i just had no other choice bcos the original
configuration of the old case didnt let me...

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Added the edges to the top panel to even it out, and after some wood cement and sanding, first coat of paint.
The edges were actually some leftovers from cutting the laminate lol

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Painting of the insides.
I decided to go with the white on this one, i like it :D

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Painting the doors...

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Side panels

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    So far so good :)

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Made some holes for the lock i will use on the side panel.

    [IMG][IMG]

Preparing the control panel of the case.
Pictures say a thousand words, so i'll be short here lol
So, the main panel, drilling the holes for the switches and LEDs and finally, forming the shape of the panel.
Definitely the hardest part to make...

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Forming the shape

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    And finally the paint...

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

The HDD cage of the old case was in not so good shape, after all its 9 years old...
So i made a custom cage for the hard drives, nothing special, just to hold the drives in place lol

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Final work on the control panel

    [IMG][IMG]

    And the final pics. :)
Sadly, my camera broke, so i had to borrow one, but not so good as mine, so the pics are not so good :(
They are ok, but they could be better for sure... when/if i get my camera back i'll try to make some HQ pics.
    Sorry again.

I already see the dust will be my enemy now :D

    So there you go :)

I can't say its a clone, but a living mutat offspring would work ok :D
I'd say i'm 95% happy for the result.
There are some minor errors, here and there, but unnoticable... considering the material and tools i had, its ok...

Entire mod is made without a dremel of any kind lol
Only when you don't have it, you realise how usefull is that little bugger :D

I promised myself to buy am original Dremel first chance i get :dremel:
So much from me for now, untill the next project :thumb:

    Thanks :)

I'd say around 80$ was the total cost.
Considering that CM Stacker costs about 350$ here, it's ok :D

Here are some better pics i managed to take.

The flash from the camera makes the black looks too bright.
I don't know if its bcos of the indoor lights or what....
I'll try to make some shots outside, maybe it will look better then :)
