    *** UPDATE !!! ***

Today I fit some things in the case just to see how it would look.

1st of all, here's the star I dremeled :dremel: out of the side:

Here are some random pictures of the case. It's a long way to finish, but I thought it would be worth posting so you could see my ideas.
(Don't look at the paper on the acrylic and the screwless-fans :hehe:)

Plz reply and give comments / ideas. :)
I already modded my PSU by putting one fo those 80mm fan with 4 red leds in there. I'm also going to put 2 mini cathodes "in" my frontpanel. At both sides of the transpirant 80mm fan, behind the frontpanel, but stil in it. :hehe:. So you won't see them. I'm going to put acrylic in front of the entire frontpanel and I'm using alumium to get the front smooth.

btw: That cd-rom is just to have the right size of a dvd-writer. Just in case you thought i'm dumb :hehe:

I know what you are thinking. My thought is: WTF is that thing doing there? get an other one! But then again...what kinda do I want? I don't know which I should use. And I kinda like it though. :hehe:

Here's a new picture with the cold cathode in it so you have a better sight on the star.

hmm.....I guess that's what i'm going to do. I'm going to make the fanguard round. So those 4 "bridges" to those screwholes and the holes itself are going to be dremeled away. So I got a round fanguard left.
But I don't know what you mean by "stuck it on from the inside"...

    5/5/2004 update

    *** UPDATE ***
I drilled 3 holes in my case for the leds which are comming behind acrylic at the top of my frontpanel. It's not a great pic though.

Today i've been working on the wooden blowhole. It's a test to see if it looks good and if it's function is oke. Here are some pics of it.

As you can see, I used my dremel to carve the edges.

I planned to use a lightened 80mm red fan in the blowhole. but it won't fit, bah! :worried:. But..you guys remember the (painted) HDD-cooler?

Well...here's what I did with it:

I'm going to use those little fans for the blowhole. They will be placed at some acrylic with holes in it for the airflow. (I couldn't get a clear shot of the location of the fans since I only got 2 hands :hehe:)

What do you guys think, is it worth trying, is it a good idea?
Give me some comments / ideas, i don't care if it is negative or not. I hope it's positive though. :hehe: :dremel:

    The window looks good!
But the fanguard looks out of place, try getting som black screws and mount the fanguard on the inside, to make it "stealthed"

keep up the good work! :thumb:

 just paint your fan screws, much easier than buying new ones. You also might want to paint the rivets for the window (but not black, maybe red?) with maybe a sharpie? :worried: How are you planning on making those front fans look? The ones in the 5 1/4 bay. Acrylic is a good idea, and then you could paint it (from the back) carefully (as some paints eat acrylic, so test it on a scrap piece) that would look great. Do you have a holesaw for the fan holes though?

    mod on :dremel:

I'm planning to paint the fan screws and the allen screws, both red!
I wanted to see what's inside of the 45mm fans. So I opened one....and this happend:

****! The plastic holders actually broke, so I just checked the inside. :sigh: I'm going to buy a new HDD cooler since it's cheep. 2x 45mm fan for like 7 euro~9 dollar. :D

About the acrylic; I'm not going to drill 2 45mm holes. I'm going to drill several 5mm / 7mm holes since it looks cool!. I might paint the acrylic after I finished the fans and the acrylic, we'll see the result. I just get home form Halfords, bought a can of transparant vernis and black vernis. They didn't had any red vernis. :waah: I'm thinking of repainting my case with an other goal: 2 colors, red and black, fading to eachother. Black below and red above..black fading out and red fading in. Just have to try it once. :hehe:
These are the cans I'm gooing to use for it.

    - What do you mean with sharpie?
    - Which piece do you want to get paint, the entire acrylic or just some spots? And I know there's special paint for acrylic, just gotto buy it.
    - I'm using a :dremel: since it works very good for me.

A Sharpie is a permanant pen, we call them permanent markers in the UK. :thumb:

Like the look of the star, but maybe try the fan without a guard for a bit? Or maybe some mesh painted black? :eyebrow:

I'll have a look at it when the case is back together. :hehe:
psst..what's "mesh", I'm kinda noob with the terms :wallbash: .

I got a question, I want to add some switches, could I use this one as on/off switch?

Ah looks like you found your way to the local Halfords or Brezan :hehe: .
That switch can't be used as a normal on/off switch, UNLESS you flip it twice.
    Mesh=geperforeerd metaal, gaas-achtig.

/been to Tweakstore in Rotterdam, nice shop, bit vague but very friendly people.

I NEED SWITCHES! Since you live in Netherland....where can I buy good-looking switches for my case? :hehe:
Aaahhhh, so that's mesh. :D Thanx for the translation. :thumb:.
Tweakstore is an oke shop, and Halfords just kicks ass. It's like 10min walking from here, so 3 min with bike. They actually heard of casemodding. They said a lot of youth comes there for the cans. :naughty: :hehe: That has to say something!

Why'd you want to use that ugly switch :hehe: . Conrad has other much nicer looking switches. You will need a momentary one though.
I haven't (yet) seen a momentary switch with levers in normal stores. I'm sure RS or Farnell has them. Why don't you try your local electronics shop.

I bought this one from Conrad. It's rather expensive at 13,60 euro, but i rate this one higher than the Bulgin illuminated ones.

It was just a picture to show the connection. :hehe: I got some much better, but aint gonna post 'm. You say you're using that one, how did you connect it? Just wireing 1 wire at one pole and the other at the other pole? That's to easy i think...or is it?
I'm looking at my colt cathode, and it has the same connection. Here are some pics.

    *** UPDATE !!! ***

Just came home from Halfords, bought some quality red vernis.

The screws needed to get primed, so there we go.

I've been thinking about the case itsels, so without any panels. What color would be oke!? I desided to make it black since it will do for now. I might paint it red if I don't like the black. Here's a pic.

Any ideas for the case so far?

    *edit*
Look what came by mail. The 10 bright blue leds. Let's test them and see how bright they are.

I tried to paint the case with a brush. Dumb idea, but i was bored. It didn't work out to well. So I'm planning to repaint it totally red with a can. Just had some fun there. :hehe:

ive got a tip on wiring leds, this is actually easy to do and it lets you add a lot more than 3 leds.
i use 2 resistors because i cant find a single in the amount i need. here are some pics of the finished product:
    [IMG][IMG]
to figure out what resistor you need, use the equation V=IR, and modify it so u can get resistance, so its V/I=R. V is your voltage supplied minus what voltage your leds are rated for ie 5v line - 3.3v leds, so you get 1.7. I is the current your leds draw, so they usually draw 30mA, so its .03A. so you get:
1.7/.03=57. So use a resistor rated roughly 57ohm(doesnt have to be accurate) The way to get maximum brightness is you add the amount of current depending on how many leds you get, so lets say you use 10 leds. thats .03x10, which is .3. Thus, you get:
1.7/.3=5.7, so use a 10ohm resistor. I hope this helped you, once you try it, its really easy.
