This gonna be awesome!
Very cool mod, what case is that? I guess I didn't catch it
Fractal Design Define R2
Any news on this project?
Another amazing Dutch Define R2 mod
Keep it coming
Ok. I've been waiting patiently Frenkie... This is too awesome of a concept not to finish.
Youre so right, Ive been adding triangles of Forex and plexi all around the mod now. Every line fastened with construction kit and cured for at least 24 hours. The kit doubles as Bondo; I use it to smoothen out the lines too.
I added a sneak preview here ill post the rest soon, I promise !
I remeber seeing the first cuts on this case and was amazed how much risk you where taking but somehow i lost the worklog.
now i've managed to find it again im loving what your doing with it!
Different... I like.
Wow I'm relieved. I was really hoping this log didn't die.
Been very busy with my new job (was unemployed for a year) and have to work overtime too. In the evenings I dont have much time or energy left to do a lot of modding. Gradually it goes a bit better, so here is a update.
During the build I found that the "nose" was going to give me trouble if I didnt modify it.
First in regular paper to see what I needed.
Then made it from Forex hardfoam plate.
From the inside it looks like a weld.
Last triangle piece with the edges bare for the construction kit, mid piece I wil remove after the spraypaint.
Looking through the plexi.
I will smoothen out all the edges.
This looks crazy good Frenkie! Accually reminds me of some NZXT chassies (alto you won't find one like this one!) Subbed.
I just worry about how that hardened epoxy stuff you used to attach the plexi. Don't want it to show under the acrylic
Lookin great and this blows away any NZXT chassis.
Dont worry. The thing is: The exposed acrylic you see NOW.... will be spraypainted in dull-black. THEN the mid-section that is now covered, I will peel off after paint is dry. All the kit underneath will be covered, you cant see it.
As I told you over at The Mod Brothers: That's amazing! It would be fun to try out something like this on my own
Oh ok. I noticed you left the plastic on the acrylic. Can't wait to see how that looks! Awaiting patiently Frenkie.
Total view from the right (sorry bit hazy)
View from left.
View from back left. You can see that the PC components in the front will also be radically altered because of the beveled pieces.
To make the 'welds' more smooth, I warmed the kit in a bucket of hot water.
Cant see it very clearly here, but its smoother.
Getting the sharp tools out.
Knife against the plate and slowly cutting.
Afterwards some light sanding and there you go.
I like it!
But I think you should attach some minor wings at the side panels to make it look more like Hovermax
Well the messiness I was worried about just went right out the window.
Nice clean up job!
