Got my D50 for my birthday this year too. It's still fantastic, but I'm after a macro lens at the moment. There's a 200mm one lying around in my form room, I might nab that.

    1) get bryan peterson's "understanding exposure" book...
    2) take it off the green box auto mode
    3) learn to shoot w/o flash with proper settings to suit
    4) bean bag or gorrila pod for tripod alternatives, right aperture/shutter speed, good lighting...

    you'll be hooked on photography...

    cheers!

OP, great pics! love sigma lenses... i miss my 150mm 2.8 macro...

Well I just finished reading your worklog and must say amazing job! I also found a lot of nice ideas, especially self made meshes are cool. I may try to do them my self if i find the courage. :hehe:

    Anyway, Nice work! :dremel:

:nono::hehe: I am amazed how much some lenses go for though :eeek: but looked around for a good while to get a good 1 :).

Good tips, I just played with the settings & take a few shots around what I think is the right 1 :D, good lighting is the tricky 1 if not using nice daylight & yes I was surprised how much fun it was shooting random things when you know it can be in much better quality, quite a different better experience compared to my last camera.

    Thanks mate :thumb:.

Thanks for taking the time to have a good look Evenge, if or when you have a go at a diy mesh the place I got the custom template have a hex pattern template with dots in the middle, would save much more time on doing it, but use a spot drill bit for the initial mark then it's quite easy to do ;) I plotted my own diy mesh on my last case & wow it took hours just to draw the lines so printing a template & sticking it on saves a massive amount of time :).

Thanks Shael :) tomorrow I'll start back up on this, promise :) the tripod came today & wow it's so much better than my last, quite a bit taller also, a little higher than my eye level & I'm 6 foot 3 so it makes my last tripod look quite small :D.

I got my camera, lens, and rechargeable batteries in, and am looking forward to messing around with mine this week. Going on vacation for a week (if you can call going to your mother-in-law's a vacation) so I plan on taking her out for a spin.

Based on the reviews, I think this Tamron 18-200mm is going to be a handy lens.

Good stuff :thumb:, look forward to seeing a re-shoot of your new beauty mate :D be so wrong not to :D.

Got the scroll saw temporarily set up & ready for action in the cellar at long last, still need to make a custom table for it's permanent usage, had a first go on it earlier & I love it :D so nice & easy changing blades & no vibrations at all on slow speed which is what I'll mostly be using for metal & acrylic :) & the tripod arrived today so took a bunch of pictures of the case :) & I think I'll manage to keep this lens as a primary lens :D, finally started to resize the pictures for easier uploading but I'll keep the original raw full res images backed up.

In extreme close up this shows why I was considering flipping it to the other side :D quite a few of the countersinking went very un-smooth.

Also I seemed to have got up to speed on taking shots without the need of taking multiple shots so that little practice play the other day really helped :).

Tomorrow I start on the full length clamp strips :).

:clap:well done buddy always good to see some pics of scratch build taken professionally:rock::hehe:

Can definately see why you might want to move the copper grill around, some of the countersinking does look off......though the only way we would have seen it was wit the excellant close up:thumb:

have you thought about redoing that section and try drilling at a lower / higher spped to see how it comes out?

    Brilliant pics Waynio.

Trouble is like you say, now you can see any errors easier.

Copper is a bitch to drill, as its a very sticky material,

I would usually change th angle of the drill, and grind at a bigger angle, this helps prevent this happening.

Cheers Shael :) what caused them to be so off is it was jumping a bit when I was doing it, no idea why though but the other side I had no such problem countersinking so maybe I'll just go deeper on the other side, it'll make the holes a little bigger too which won't be a bad thing :).

Also the front bottom alu panel needs slimming down on the thickness & giving a nice brushed finish so it doesn't bulge out by about 0.3mm lol & now I have the new saw setup I designed an alternative pattern which I'll do so to see if I like it more so might have a nice juicy update by the end of the day :).

Thanks Pablo, :hehe: yeah I'm gonna have to up my quality that bit more now :D & I'll bear that tip in mind thanks mate :thumb:.

Back in action at last :)

Got all the strips cut to size on the new scroll saw these are 1 metre strips, 25mm x 1mm alu, 20mm x 1mm copper, 10mm x 1mm alu, just need to add bevels on all the edges.

Wow you 're back buddy!! :) I have to say that the copper ventilation wont be visible unless you go really close but if you dont like it you can always make a new design with the scroll saw it doesnt have to be only holes, you can copy the aluminum front design in reverse and see how it looks!! Above all.... I need to see that baby finished brooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Nice work on those strips Wanio :D i bet being able to use the scroll saw was very satisfying:D

Nice high quality pictures as well. And i agree with angel try out a couple of different designs on the scroll saw and see how they come out?

No point in not using the new toy to its capacity :thumb:

    Cheers Graham :).

:D Yeah, was getting really slouchy lol, put in a good day today though I'll have an update later, couldn't resist making a new front bottom panel since I have the saw now :hehe:, also I flipped the copper mesh panel & countersunk but doing them on a bit of an angle, got a tip about that way & it worked nicely without jumping about, I hope it's complete soon, just depends on things going right & me putting the time & effort in :).

Oh wow it is really nice to use after using the other I had for a short time, got 3 metres & a new front grill made with 1 blade, the super fine cut blades were weak & snapped quite easily so when I ran out of those I switched to a stronger 1 & it kept going until I was done with the cutting, I'll try doing the fan mounts with the saw also but that will be tomorrow or the day after :) I don't see any reason for it not to be able handle 12mm diameter copper rod.

I'll try to get an update up later on :).

Glad to hear the tip worked ;).

really meant to regrind angle of drill, but holding at angle would also work .

:hehe: It worked anyway, cheers Pablo :thumb:.

Here is an alternative grill I designed & made today, the copper mess is sorted now I flipped it over & countersunk deep but did it on a slight angle & they all went nice & smooth.
