Woot not only a case mod / scratch build but a workshop mod as well:hehe: this project keeps gettin better

With the additional lighting behind the strips why not use a bulgin latching switch hidden somewhere so the lights can be switched off/on as required. Even better have a slight gap between the strips so the light shines out between the copper and alu ?

:hehe: But really was the drilling & grinding, my bro said it was a faint humming type noise & out of all the neighbors he'd have caught the most noise, so it's probably ok for most stuff but anything on the loud side like drilling or grinding I'd better leave alone until the hour is ok to be making noise :).

:D Ah the workshop mods won't be happening until this is done :).
I doubt I'll know if I want to add any lighting until everything is done & I've got all my gear inside it, I was thinking possibly a light strip along the inside curves but only if they can be switched on/off.

I been having a mess with the case in it's current form & found I could nudge the strips over just enough to get the mesh pieces in & they hold firm when in place :).

:D Cheers Cheaps at least that went well :) but realised why the copper mesh panel won't sit flush to the acrylic :duh:.

I'll try to keep this short but as usual I go on & on & on & on :).

The front copper mesh grill got more damaged than I thought when I drilled the final hole which is why it wouldn't sit flush to the acrylic, it bulges out by 1mm.

Tried whacking it into better shape at the time & then again today & seems nice & flat but not perfectly flat & it needs to be.

Decided I really like the copper mesh grill panel & going to alu for this front detail just would have been a come down for this, so ordered a 250x250mm x 2mm sheet & just in case I have more probs a 250x250mm x 1mm sheet so I can re-make it, but this time i'm going to go overkill with the clamping :D, thought I did before with 2 G clamps nice & tight but I guess not, really couldn't believe it when it completely deformed, really should have taken a picture, it was so twisted out of shape I instantly thought well that's that then  but was using the kodak with it's internal memory with room for 6 or 7 shots.

I tried the original blank 3mm alu panel I made in the early stages of this project & it still fits perfect so at least the form of the case is still good, was getting worried it lost form some how :hehe:.

I'll be a bit busy tomorrow but if I get chance & I'm up for it I'll get something done even if it's just finishing off the strips & then I'll have to use gloves so I don't get dirt or grease on them, the more the copper gets handled the duller it gets & the strips have already started showing clear dulling signs :eeek:, so I ordered some brass lacquer for it to keep it's fresh look after I give it a re-brush & clean :).

The little copper vents are staying out of the build :D, they just don't look good after seeing them with the strips & they'd be quite restrictive for air flow so laters to them :D, I'll either leave the vents open or if I can think up something good enough I'll make something else but the edges got a good wet sanding so are near polished so theres a good chance I'll leave them as they are.

Just when I thought I was getting into some solid progress lol :duh:.

:hehe: What to say to that  cheers mate :D.

Thanks Coldzero :), I've trimmed the bottom ends to size, just needs a little filing at the top end & the bottom, the copper has started dulling already with all the handling so it's very clear I need to re-brush the copper, then clean it & then brush some brass lacquer on to keep it's fresh look :thumb:.

Think it might be tiny updates over the coming days unless I manage to put a couple of good sessions in.

I can agree with leaving the copper vents out but maybe consider covering them with the same colour perspex as the side panels? or AMaybe some smoked perspex for something different:D

Pity to hear about the copper vent getting deformed Wanio:wallbash: but as a fellow perfectionsit even though you wouldnt be able to see the rough side it would have still bothered you so think of it as a chance to make it perfect ;)

It's a very tricky shape to make a perfect template from but I'll give it a shot :D, cutting perfect is easy now (well I say that but I started cutting with a dremel ) but all 4 are individual shapes ever so slightly different from each other, I agree though if I did an ok pattern out of dark tint acrylic it could look good & have plenty of it spare :D I'll see if I can turn a quick doodle into a nice design & think I might have done so while writing up this :hehe: well the doodle anyway :D.

Yeah it's mostly the price of copper which makes me :waah:  I got it pretty well flattened but must have been a tiny bit I couldn't get corrected 100%, the actual modding I don't mind having to perfect this mesh thing :D the more practice the better & I only really seem to be able to practice when doing a project, can't seem to practice just to practice :D.

Anyway might be back on track this week if all goes well :thumb:.

:hehe: Cheers p0Pe :D & yeah I know I won't regret putting the money out for the copper when I finally get around to using it :hehe: just glad I have a decent case to keep me going until then, really stopped me from rushing this 1 or prematurely calling it finished a load of times like I did air cube :hehe:.

    ------
Holy sheet, just had fibre optic broadband installed, used to get 6meg down & 1meg up, now get 37meg down & 7meg up so went on steam to download a game I had uninstalled GTA vice city & took 5 minutes for the 1.5GB game to download woo hoo :D what an improvement, it's crazy :jawdrop:.
    ------
Oh yeah, the BT engineer didn't connect the phone extension so been messing around trying to get that sorted, I'm well rested now though so it's a PITA I have to wait around for it to get sorted, I feel very much up for getting on with this case right now but have to wait :grr:.
    ------
Thought screw waiting & got busy with the mod :D.

Got all the internal tabs so they aren't visible :D & filed the strips ends so they are flush to the ends of the case but mucked up on the right side slimmest alu strip so need to make a new 1, I'll do an update when I've re-made this piece.

Hmmm, I started filing the excess edges off the ends of the strips & left side went fine, right side I got impatient filing 1 way & went both ways & with the 10mm x 1mm alu strips being uber flexible it pulled back & detatched from the case :( so was knackered, then I went & made another 10mm x 1mm strip & drilled in the same spots where the original had them & when I installed it it had a good bit of baggy flex so really not good, my disc sander seems like it's past it's best but I need to open it up to see what's wrong it spins well but it's making a ton of extra noise & vibrates heavily so needs opening & looking to see whats wrong, some of the case screws had come very loose so I'm guessing it's something similar inside the machine, hopefully it's fixable.

Only way I'll get these alu strips done now is if I use button head bolts as countersinking these extremely flexible strips just makes them even more so, so yeah I'll re-make the 10mm alu strips tomorrow & get them on with button head bolts for a better connection :).

Anyway heres some shots of the case with correct length strips & shortened internal tabs.

And because it was doing my head in I needed to see it in a fuller form so re-brushed the left panel & put the side windows in too :D.

The bottom front grill I'm using a tripple layer of alu until the copper arrives.

This is looking so sweet Wayne.

We got fiber optic a year ago, and I adore it. I get 30mbit up and down. It is so fast, its wonderful. There is nothing like being able to download and upload at 3 mbytes/sec.

Still some solid work to be done then? It's definitely worth it, your attention to detail is the only explanation we need- well done!

    :) Thank you p0Pe :thumb:.

I'm honored :) thanks mate & it's good to see you put your latest up here, insanely awesome paint job :thumb:.

Thanks Shael, now I know what it takes to get a mod done to a higher standard & it's knackering physically & mentally :hehe: but all worth it :).

Thanks voigts mate, good thing you suggested full strips :D so much better than the beta tabs :D & yeah fibre optic is crazy, loving it :D.

:hehe: Keep at it mate, I used to be bobbins  I think everyone starts off a little rough if no previous experience like me & the more I've done the more attention to detail I've been going after seeing other peoples logs here & elsewhere, this aint without it's flaws though because of lack of correct tools, really could have used a router in this one so I'll have to make sure I'm up to speed on routing by the time I start another :), thanks for the huge compliment though mate :).

 Don't say that :D, it was only a few years ago I started & no one seen the experimental case mods I done  pretty crazy & seriously ugly :D, worse than anything I've seen on here or any modding forum, the ideas were different but roughly executed :hehe:.

Yeah :duh: wow it's been a mission & half :D & thanks for that KidMod I had a huge explanation of what's happening but your comment helped save me from going there & boring everyone to death :hehe::thumb:.

Fixed the disc sander which is a relief :) & re-made both the slim strips & underneath the slim strips I added 4 extra bolts on each side to hold it all down nicer so the slim strips are held in with just 2 button head bolts so the bottom front panel is held in better also now :).

Back on track now I think after mucking up the other slim alu strips :) but I don't know what's going on with the copper delivery.
