I have got my replacement neons today and I've temporarily fitted one to the side with the window (at the bottom - the second neon will go at the top of this side) Case with neons on (no flash) note that the light is more evenly dispersed in the swoosh now - I sanded it a bit! Case with neons on (flash) I'm not sure yet - if I do anything to it will be to replace it. In real life it doesn't look out of place and I'm sure that when the bay is painted it will look even less out of place but we'll see.
Update! Today I bought some more silver paint for the front of the case and some black gloss for the side I have undercoated one of the sides of the case in black undercoat and have sprayed one coat of gloss on so far (pics coming soon) it is currently drying in the shed. Here's a pic of the front of the case now with all the panels silver: My new 80gb hard drive arrived from overclockers today (ordered yesterday ) so I have now put my old 40gb one into my "ghetto file server" - My first mod
It's really comming together! Keep up the good work. And nice job on your "ghetto file server" Gonna paint that sucka?
Here's an update: The window side of the case is completely painted now - all it needs now is the window . I want to get some Rubber Window Moulding to fit the window in so it will look nice and neat (thats the reason I haven't filed the circle .) To spray the metal parts of the case I sprayed on one coat of black undercoat and three coats of black gloss spray. I have got the finish exactly how I wanted it, I did not want it to be super reflective and I didn't want it to be dull so I think that I have done a good job! Here is what the side of the case looks like now: I put the two red neons above and below the window cut-out with the industrial strength double-sided tape and tidied the wires up with my good old friend duct tape (that sticker is the sticker that came with the neons and I didn't know where to stick it so I just stuck it on the inside of the case) Heres what the black side looks like with the rest of the case: And here it is with the lights on without the flash (bit blurry pic and I need to tidy my cables up again!) Here it is in its place with the flash on And here without the flash: The other side of the case has just been undercoating and is drying in the shed atm. I am now wondering whether the silver front matches the black sides? What do you think? Should I spray the front black as well or should I just spray the drive bay covers black? Let me know what you think
ok, this is looking really nice. very good job done on your case. the window looks nice, and with the rubber thing it should look nicer that color gray looks good and the stealthing is great. i was just stealthening a cdrw i had lying somewhere (no warranty was left) and had a looong night resoldering the wires and making sure the switch still worked the most time-consuming thing was to 'paste' the plate with the cdrw.. oh man, it didn't want to stick in there.. but finally it did hehe.. im waiting till monday to go and buy some switches and leds... i really like your case, to be honest i didn't liked it too much at first but it really looks nice now, congratulations
Thanks, I need to stick my bay covers on with something a bit stronger than double-sided tape - what did you use? Mine were only stuck on with double-sided tape as a temporary measure until i have finished all the painting as I need to keep taking them off. I'm quite tempted to paint the front bezel black, look at this picture and tell me whether it would look better black or silver as it currently is: I'll have to strip the whole case again soon to paint the top black - it doesn't unscrew, its rivets , if I drill the rivets out it the drive bays will all fall out lol so I have to take everything out
I've just sprayed one on the floppy covers black with the gloss spray to see how it comes out, when it is dry I'll put it in the case and see how it looks and post pics.
i used some instant adhesive http://www.toptop.com/pegamentos.eng.clasico.htm i did stick really fast and strong =) here in mexico it cost $16 pesos (USD$1.5~). you only need like 3-4 drops for the cover to stick to the cdrom i think the front bezel should stay grey, it looks great, but if you want to, its all yours please post some pictures of the black floppy cover. ps. i got that same switch (dss-5+), works great
I take it that that's just superglue?, I'll superglue the fronts on once I have finished everything else. heh, its not a switch its my wireless access point DWL-700AP, looks the same though
Keep the front silver It looks good, and I think once you get the rest of the case black, it'll look even better. But if you still are concerned about it, paint bits of the inside silver (like inside the side pannels, and the substructure).
I've just got back from school and have just applied the final coat of paint to the side of the case. Should be dry later so I'll post pics. All that's left to paint now is the top which I am reluctant to do it atm as it involves taking EVERYTHING out of the case and I need to use my PC atm so this may have to wait until the weekend, but I may have time to do it this week. The floppy bay panel I sprayed black is looking quite good and is tempting me to spray the front bezel in black but I'll wait till the rest of the case is sprayed in black first before I make any decisions! Oh yeah I haven't posted any system specs for whats inside the case so here they are (nothing groundbreaking but not bad):: AMD Athlon XP2400+ 512mb PC2700 crucial DDR RAM 80gb 7200rpm Seagate Barracuda HDD GeForce 4 440MX 64mb DDR graphics card Liteon DVD LG CDRW
I've got the 900AP+, although I don't use it for my rig's sole connection to the internet. It just serves as a gateway to the wireless network when m8s come over/I'm fixing a PC (also D-Link fixed the firmware, so I've got it hooked to a 5 port switch ). Was a nasty little (insert choice 4-letter word here) to get set up, but works prety nice. The black looks good, imo silver paint is too unpredictible in photos
I don't use my wap as my "sole connection". It is for my laptop so I can surf the net/use the network around the house Now back on topic That's with one of the floppy bay covers sprayed in black, looks more sleek and professional than the silver and I'm getting more tempted to paint the whole bezel black. The second side is now finished and it's back on the case (not much point in photos - looks the same as the other side without a hole for a window in the side ) I painted the inside of this panel with the gloss paint so that looking through the window the case you will see black instead of beige. (I only used one coat of paint for this and didn't undercoat This won't really matter as it will not be "exposed" like the outer case. I think the painting of the top of the case will have to wait until the weekend as I need this PC this week
I am going to paint the rest of the case in black this weekend (even the front ) I decided it would look better all in black! I was wondering whether I need to remove the silver paint off of the front first or can it be left on as a sort of undercoat?? The floppy drive cover I sprayed black still had the silver underneath but I dunno. Expect updates either today or tomorrow!
Triple Post Update I have painted the whole case in black now!!! This is the chassis - I painted the back and bottom of it so that it will look better. View from the back: This is the case put back together again: The flash makes the black look messy but in real life its painted evenly and smooth all over! I have tidied up all of the wires on the inside so it looks better through the window (no plexi yet - will get it soon! ) The neon controllers have been put out of the way in the drive bay: Here's a side view of the case in the dark with the neons on: Things Left to do: Fit plexi window Wire up LED's in push switches Fit USB and audio into top panel
