It looks good so far, but pleae, please, please paint those keys. The white on black would be fine if your perpetuals were all white on black, but seeing white in a realm of black and silver is painful. Very good work otherwise
Update, 12February2006 (Long time coming) Ok, so I shook the dust off of this project and decided to get on it. I finally got around to getting the last of my parts, so here we go again... First thing's first, I'm sure you all remember this guy: Well I finally decided I hate the split keyboard and wised up, deciding to get with it. So I just shelled out... Awesome kb. 5/5 stars. - serial_
Yeah... That was a bit random. Guess it helps reading that you were going to a halloween party though.
Have you got the keyboard fully working? Ive got the gamer version and havent got it fully working on mandriva.
Everything is looking great. Did you try to get the brushed aluminum look on the case? I think it would look cool if you took some polish and shined it up to a mirror finish, but that is up to your tastes. Keep on moddin' P.S. How was the mish in Haiti?
Yeah I wanted the brushed look there, I wanted the case to have a different texture from the norm. And as a plus the clear coat makes it a nice glossy kind of shiny. Haiti was awesome Most insane place to serve, but I love it. - serial_
i would recomend one of these http://www.zalman.co.kr/usa/product/view.asp?idx=165&code=009 or these http://www.zalman.co.kr/usa/product/view.asp?idx=145&code=009 over the orb nice etching on the window and side, I prefer the brushed aluminum
Thanks, I had looked into the Zalman stuff a little, but I don't like how damn big that first one is. That's a lot of weight with a center of gravity pushed out and away, but I'll look into the other one, i honestly just liked the Orb for the copper core and blue fins, I mean... it's blue. What's not to like? But yeah, I would like to have copper for a better heat transfer. - serial_ P.S. Thank you so much for all the feedback, everyone.
I have cleaned up a lot of lame, and useless pics that were added. This was my first work log and I showed a lot of things not applicable. I have been working on the case/setup when not at work, mainly the interior of it, and will bring you and update soon. Until then, just let your mind wander. It is still the tux files, just... a lot more of it - serial_
The pwnage. 14July2006 So between work and WoW, I have not had any desire to update this log. This is an on-going project, and this update will deal with a lot of hardware, and a little modding. mostly pics. Bigger fans mean better. I went from 28db to 8db, that's right. 8db and still 34cfm. Time to make the hole. If you're cutting holes in your case, may i recommend tinsnips, the curved kind. A nibbler looks like crap and kills your hand. And even at a rough cut, it looks good. The i used the dremel to polish it up. Hardware time: New hsf. Trial and error: 3 boards and 3 different outcomes, stability with overclocking was the worst with the gigabyte. It had by far the most options to do so, but was giving me issues in the pci bus and random reboot departments. Even at VERY modest overclocks. Finally settled with the Asus. The ECS board only runs single-card PCI-E at x8, which technically still leaves the card with enough elbow room, but I want to know there's no bottleneck. I like the fact the Asus also has 16GB max ram. the ECS board did as well, but the ASUS also has a total of 5-6 fan connectors on the board itself. The ECS and ASUS were very comparable boards, in the end it was the SLI vs. single card mode that really won over the ASUS for me. The one down-side to the ASUS P5ND2 SLi is that the north bridge gets DAMN hot. I damn near burned my finger on it, worried me to the point i called ASUS tech support and they said that it should get pretty toasty but i'm still finding something with a fan. Mugshot of the board: Graphics: EVGA Nvidia GeForce 7900GT KO: Everything's in: Glamour Gallery (with an added bonus sneak peek at the end). Thanks for looking, - serial_
Nice case, but.....How the hell do you come up withe 8 dB...? I mean background noise is way more then that.
Exactly. Those fans are rated at 8db a peice. I can only hear it if the air conditioner is off and I'm not playing any music. The hsf is the only thing I hear, the 7900GT is whisper quiet as well, even in the middle of gaming, it only gets to about 20db or so. I am really pleased with those scythe fans. They move a decent amount of air (34cfm) and do it in ninja-like fashion: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16835185004 - serial_
Ahh, all it is, is a really low RPM. The company makes 3 models for each size fan, normal, slightly lower rpm, and low rpm. I imagine they just add different resistors..
Update 18july2006 K, here's the long and short of it: unhappy with the grainy finish on the bottom of my heatsink, I decided to give it a mirror-smooth finish. Starting off with 400 and finishing it with 600 grit: Much better Now is the time for the full layout of the "sneak peek* from the last update. Let the madness ensue: Problems with the monitors lining up due to a bad slot placement on the mounting arm, they needed to be dropped even if it wasn't buggered, so time to interface the thing. First attempt was plexi: Fit the plate nicely. However, once tightened the screws created their own chaos. I guess sometimes it's always important to show when a mod goes wrong: Meandering around home depot I found something that caught my eye that I thought would work nicely. And did it! Like a glove: And the finale: - serial_
