    Those drawings are cool!
And indeed, the first time I saw those batteries, it reminded me of a bomb, even before you mentioned it :D

Basically because I had the laptop laying around. The screen became unusable quite a while ago and its already a decent setup. Pentium M 1.3GHz, 1GB Ram and a 40gb drive. Its already running Debian (latest testing) setup for web/ftp/mail and its fast as hell for this. Also using a Micro ATX with a dual core CPU would mean spending money :blah: .

As for a small update, I will hopfully start work on the plastic today. I am just kinda waiting to see if BigM2006 was still offering that VFD.

Sweetness, I will be recieving the VFD from BigM2006 within the next couple weeks and will then resume progress on this once I can measure it and see what I will have to change in the way of layout and measurements.

Actually my main problem right now is trying to find a local Plastics dealer. I have a large sheet of clear acrylic which i was just going to paint the inside with gloss. Buts if I can get some other plastics with-out having to order it online, then I would rather go that way.

Although, painting it from the inside with a gloss paint might actually look good. Will see once I start actually working on it.
On thing I am working on right now is a different way to do the corners but not have the normal box look. I was thinking about bending, thought not to sure how well it will come out.

If you want to do angled corners it would be easiest to use 1-inch square plastic rod as a corner framing piece then miter off one of the corners using a tablesaw.

And my nearest plastics supplier has a good deal of variety in their scrap selection. I made a case with some awesome looking 1/8" thickness 80% tint polycarbonate sheets a while ago. http://www.captainslug.com/modding/nmp_999.jpg

Just a quick update before I go to work,

I have received the VFD from BigM2006

I will be redesigning the front and redoing the dimentions of the case itself so there may be a total redesign. But I should be getting my Jig saww this weekend so hopefully I will start some plastic work then. :dremel:

    Thanks again BigM2006 !!

    UPDATE 5 Mar 2007!!!

Well as I said, got the jigsaw this weekend. Family stayed the weekend so I dodn't get a LOT done, but I made some good progress!

    First...

    This:

    And this:

for a whole weekend (and through out last week if you count Capt Slug's Plug Bus :D ) = a messy mod rooom (Note: look at the desks) :

Last week I spent a short amount of time getting the VFD to work in linux :

Though i still need to figure out where from the motherboard I can pull +5v :wallbash:

Here we have the semi completed front and back (still lots of filing :sigh: ) :

    And a size comparison:

And last but not least, a nice Arsty Fartsy shot :D (And yes, as I said before, still have lots of filing to do :sigh: ) :

I will be contiuing the work throughout the week and should have a nice update towards the end! :dremel:

BTW: I think I won't be putting in the batteries, but that is still to be determined

Woah, at first I thought the front and back panels weren't even real, that they were just a rendered image.

    Looking good dude.

That is gonna look great. I thought you had given up on this but I'm glad you didn't. Did you ever get the new version of your drawings done?

I did but I will let the pics of of the case coming to gether show you how I changed it. You can already see how the front and back has changed (Front mostly). And the sides have changed as well. I have some ideas that will hopefully turn out to work very well! :cooldude: :dremel:

Really like the way those cuts in that acrylic turned out.
Oh BTW.. here's a good tip... after you're done sanding those grooves smooth... get a Q-tip and some acetone and give it a good wipe.. it'll make the plastic nice and smooth.
