This 'ere is my first attempt at proper case modding, Project Toaster being:- 1) put a 150mm blowhole in the case (well the drive bay area, supercharger stylee) 2) right, we've all got/had/thought about blue LEDs, so i though, well blue does look cool, but an RGB led, now that's different, the Power one actually displaying system temp, and the HDD one showing usage 3) mount DVD/CD-RW drives into the case vertically, entailing modding the drives a bit. This is my current setup (well was until i started this project). the vacuos hole at the front is where the etri (a 150mm fan) is, yet to be mounted properly. Here is the work done (mostly) thus far:- Lock Stock spinning away nicely in this pic, played flawlessly, which is a good sign i guess, heheheh after some tinkering turned out i only had to increase the spring tension, so a small bit of plastic sorted that one. The only problem with the setup currently is the drive won't recognise or burn CDR blanks, and CDRWs don't work full stop, any ideas anyone?
hmm, still having problems with the drive, have been testing with it fully rebuilt, so in theory it should've worked, but no joy. So that kills the theory that it was light interfering with it. Could anyone shed any light as to what may be the problem? Any help would be very much appreciated. thx Alaric, will post new pix of the LED when it's done, and schematics for the circuit as well lo Phil!
mate!!!! cover that red laser!!! i looked at it ny accident as i have the top panel on my PC windowed and a windowed DVD rom on the top... i had the BIGGEST headache i ever had and my eyes watered for ages!!!!!!! i was swearing non stop for ages!!!! i'm not posting a pic but you can check it on my crappy site.
unlucky riyaz, the case is back on now when it's running, was just a shot showing it working the drive is currently sitting in pieces next to me so i can look at the loading mechanism, it will work toaster style, either that or the whole drive is gonna have to pop out the top of the case.
a slot drive would bee good, but even slot drives can't work in this orientation, well, as far as a i know they can't. would look even better for toaster styling though
