It's too cold for modding in the garage right now, so I've spent a little time overclocking the Q9450.

Stock was 2.66Ghz. I've stuck a modest overclock on it for now, although I may push it a little further. It would be nice to have it at 3.6Ghz as I had the Q6600 if not more, but for now it will be fine. Got my RAM at 1066mhz too which is all fine and dandy although I've not overclocked the 275GTX yet, it's on my to do list.

    Checked the Temps with HWMonitor

    Idle -
    CPU - 18C - 22C (across 4 cores)
    GPU - 39C

    Full load - 2x Orthos + Furmark for 30mins
    CPU - 35C - 42C
    GPU - 45C

Not bad if I do say so myself. Although that is with both side panels off (as they are still in the garage..brrrrrrr). Even with them on I can't see it being a problem tho.

I wouldn't trust HWMonitor. 18C-22C when idle seems untrustworthy. How hot is the room?

BIOS (from cold boot and 10 mins of idle), reports 24.

Went through a few checks in HWMonitor and my TJMax at 90 instead of 95.:duh:

Retested and now idling at 20C - 26C across the 4 cores.

Full load is still at 35C - 42C.

    Those are very neat temps!

Didn't realise that your ambient temp was 14C!

However, I've NEVER had a WC loop where my CPU idled below 30C, so you got a keeper there, I'd say.

    Cheers Nutman and Bill

I can't believe how long it's been since I was here. Work has really taken it's toll on me..

I'll have a small update up in the next few days but in the meantime.

I've been featured on another blog site by Ron Leec (doing the Biohazard Scratchbuild)

    Woot ! :)

I've went and got the I7-930, bought i together with a pal of mine,
(and yes, the 950 is just about the same price here in DK )
They shipped me the 930, and screwed his order, and shipped him a 950.

and this is where it gets funny.
His 950, tops out at a stable OC of 3,8Ghz...
Haven't OC'ed mine yet, but it made us wonder, and then i suddently got very pleased with my decision.

The 950 apparently has issues getting past the 4Ghz barrier. where as the 930, blasts trough with 4.2 easy..

kinda makes the 930, more future proof? I don't know..

Baekkel: How hot is his 950 at 3.8 compared to your 930 at 3.8?

Hey CoolModder- welcome to the forums!
And that box is his custom watercooling resevoir. He built it from scratch to simulate a waterfall, the fluid cascades down each individual acrylic slot.

It's the coolest reservoir I have seen so far. That's what it is :D

    Honestly, no idea...
He's using a True black something or other, and i'm running stock..

Just got a half deck of 1600Mhz Dom-GT's (7-7-7-20) to fill in for the single 2gb HyperX i could borrow from a friend.
So i'll see what that does to the machine, and hear him on the temps of his 3.8 clock..
It would be kinda non relative though, since we're in two very different environments.

His is sitting in a fairly small room with fair insulation making ambient fairly high.
Mine is sitting in a fairly uninsulated room in our third floor apartment..
(i got the advantage me thinks..)

Hey Paradox, thanks for the welcome. Thanks for telling me what that box is, that thing is cool. I guess Im just curious to know if it is just a visual thing or if it really aids in cooling. But again thanks for the welcome, hope to get my build going here soon. Cheers

Coolmodder2010 - welcome to the forums and thanks for the comments :) To be honest I can't imagine it does much for cooling, although I'd like to think that having the water moving more than other more conventional reservoirs increases the cooling capability..Even if it doesn't it looks cool so I'm not fussed. :thumb:

Paradox - Cheers for doing the honours :) I'm not on here as much as I'd like just now.

Elledan - Glad you like it :thumb:

    Bluehorsestudios - Cheers :)

So another new update based solely on the side panels. It's a bit shorter than my usual videos, but then most of it is covering old ground, cutting and painting etc.

Now that the side panels are finished I just need to get some good photos of it completed and running.

With the weather closing in it makes it difficult to take photos outside and I don't really have the space for a full on photo booth in the house..

Have to see how it comes out.
