Hey guys, this is my 1st post here, as well as my 1st dedicated mod. The basis for this modding project is integrating a pretty big squirrel cage fan into a case. Here are some pics of it (wip). Tell me what you think (+ or -). Ty

Here's the case to be modded:

Hacking it to make space for the fan:

is that anodizing spray you used on the PSU? if so where did you get it, it looks great! :hip:

I really like the paint, but have you tested the fan yet? Squirell Cage fans can be rather loud...

That fan is setup incorrectly. Cross-flow fans exhaust 90 degrees opposite the intake. In order for that to work you would need to rotate it (from above) 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Then make a 90-degree reversal duct to channel the air in the originally intended direction

Well the fan is pushing air to the left (over the components).

    interesting.
do you have any way to measure the noise volume of the fan?
or can you compare it to something else?

Yeah... but that's not my point. My point is this:

Once you put the side panel on the fan will just be circulating the same air that's already in the case. You need to duct the inlet of the fan in some way so that it can draw in fresh air from outside of the case. Don't modify the actual casing of the fan in anyway, or it will just become a noisemaker. As the fan is setup now the inlet is highly restricted by the drive cage and isn't outputting anywhere near its normal level of airflow.

If you want the fan to intake from the front at its best possible performance level you will have to duct the inlet like so.
    1. Cut the drive cage to expose the whole inlet
    [IMG]
    2. Make a duct like this out of whatever kind of material you would prefer.
    3. cut excess from front of case.

Or you could make an intake on either side of the case. If you want the intake on the motherboard side just flip your fan upside-down so the inlet is facing the other way.

I don't like the case, i think it's ugly..:( But there is much modding to do, so i will see if the case is completed, if i am gonna change my opinion.
