Right. this is the case.. a dragon full-atx tower case that i got off dfhaii for £8 even came with a free evercool fan.. basically i think it looks a bit sad, old, and generaly mistreated. so i am going to spice it up a bit and make it fully showworthy for all the summer LAN parties i am not looking to go for any budget mods here, as i want to make this look as good as it can possibly get .. Anyways... lets take a look at the case itself.. these are a few shots that i took last night.. the white stuff on the front of the bezel is milliput that i used to fill a few small dents that were in the case... and i am so sorry about the quality of the camera in the dark.. i do have another cam.. but it needs a tripod to take non-flash photos.. but dont worry i will get some sorted out.. As you can see... pretty much standard fare at the moment, i have put 2 4" ccfls in the grille which gives quite a nice glow down the front as you can see, and inside, all the cables are either rounded or sleeved, and there are 4 cold cathodes inside, two up the top and two down the bottom.. behind the door as you can see i have made a quick panel for the switches for the cathodes which looks quite ugly at the moment dont worry i have plans for it OK, and onto the first item needing attention.. the bad paintwork.. I found a very nice pearlescent paint job that i cant remember seeing anyone ever doing before, but i have to be careful.. it is a £25 for 300ml paint from halfords that requires two seperate paint jobs, the undercoating from the blue, then the metallic yellowy colour on the top.. here is a quick picture just to show you what it is like.. ok project whiteout it is ummm sorry about the large pics.. but there is a warning in the topic also.... i have a few custom casebadges on order to replace that fugly P4 badge
looks good so far are you planning on doing something else than painting it? (bah.. think I have to read the thread and not just look at the pics )
of course... i'm an old-skool modder go the full way with everything.. well.. not to extremes.. but i'm not afraid to try the odd extreme mod or two.. i think i'll watercool this one tho.. i have a dual heatercore which will fit into the case nicely imho
Update already... as it turns out.. i had actually bought fast-dry car paint that allows you to apply the layers 15 minutes after each other.. and then the final clear coat 2 hours after the others.. but then allow 2 weeks for it to finally cure before using rubout compound to bring up the ultimate shine.. this is apparently used to get cars through bodyshops quickly ah well.. anyways.. i have done the front and side panel i didnt have enough paint left for the other side panel but i think you can see where i am going with the combination of colours here.... also.. in these pictures you cant really see the pearlescence but in real life it is a lot more silvery.. the flash tends to give a very even light to the picture.. and the pearlescent effect relies on the light levels differing across it e.g. light coming from a normal light source not a flash..
right as far as cold cathodes go.. there is the 2 4" blue sunbeam cathodes... that have an amazing turquoise colour they are in the grille in the front then inside there are two 12" blue CCFLs in the bottom of the case, and 2 12" blue CCFLs in the top of the case but that is all just to achieve an even light inside the case
Haha , this is quite a coincidence, my xbox project I've nick named Whiteout, (all white xbox) Good luck with the pc
thanks by the way i still want ideas as to how this can be developed.. in some of my mods.. the best bits have sometimes come from the thread
"Whiteout", to me, is reminiscent of the weather phenomenon of the same name - a winter storm so heavy that you can't see anything through the falling snow. As such, I think a mod of the same name ought to go for extreme sleekness - stealth everything, smooth lines, etc. You might take a cue from Piloux's HL2 case - specifically, his front intake fan. He put a sheet of plexi over it, raised ~1/2" from the front of the case so while the plexi was for the most part solid, the fan drew its air from around the sides. In your case, the same effect could allow you to "stealth" your fan by covering it with a smooth plate (plexi, metal, whatever - but definitely in your color scheme) while still allowing airflow around the sides (one idea would be to match the top half of the front panel with the bottom half -- replace the grooves with a flat sheet and put the fan behind that). I'd also consider doing the trim (especially around the window) in white. Anyway, my opinions.
Yeh I'm with coil, on the xbox i'm working on , i'm trying to get it as smooth as possible (sanding off xbox on the dvd bezel etc, but i'm leaving the dolby and microsoft indented portions (1) no bondo here (2) it doesnt look bad
