Thanks bradders. I did consider this but intend to use a PC Power & Cooling 1U psu. Its small and I have allocated a space at rear for it already, part of it will protrude out. I dont have a complete Xbox system and prefer not to buy their stock psu unless I really have to. I checked that the 1U does provide correct voltages. However I am re-considering this - am open of course to comments, part of why I am posting this. The xbox motherboard is a newer improved Falcon and does now have a lot more air space around it than if it were in its original case...

I never thought of having two mobos on one PSU... Hmmm, may have to reconsider my plans. I'm thinking a small power supply like your thinking will do the trick. Let me know what kind you get, as I'm not in the market lol.

Hi Collin - my plan is for it to be the PC Power & Cooling 1U psu.

Here's a first view of the 'stealth' faceplate in position - needs some slight adjustments but getting there I think.

The power, sync button and wireless 'eye' assemblies were taken from a $5 Microsoft Carbon Faceplate.

For the sync itself however I adapted a 'clicker' from a translucent 'Grip' Pen to go on top of the original flat button.
The optical drive eject button functions nicely - just needed a little rubber packing behind it to make it work.

Maybe the Lian Li XB01 case designer wants to call me now? ;)

    In situ and functioning!

The PC Power & Cooling 1U psu is on backorder so have to wait a little for that to arrive. In the meantime powering with their 610 intended for use in the htpc part of the project...

...may not bore you guys 'n gals with the pc side of the mod but its likely to feature an Asus P5E-VM HDMI board with ATI graphics... Blu-ray Player as mentioned previously...

Faceplate now bolted to case front using Socket Head Cap Screws. Xbox 360 and WMC domed badges made up and added.

The psu solution is the most difficult part of this project. The 610 powers the 360 beautifully and is an A1 supply unit but overkill. However like all ATX supplies with the 360 its 'always on' unless you modify the wiring and I am not so keen to do that. The stock 360 psu is noisy and not such a neat install...

Ah true, it does have the PSU extension plate, like the Lian Li's do. Very handy.

UPDATE - Corsair's HX520W Modular psu will now feed the htpc... will give me a whole lot better chance at organising the necessary cables neatly around the xbox chassis...

UPDATE 2 - I will install an oem 175w Xbox 360 Power Adapter to see how it runs. Everything else in the projects running well. The NZXT fans + the Scythe keep the whole interior icy cool... Blue-ray movie files run great and are output using the optical to my 7:1 receiver and to the Sony Tv using the hdmi... more pictures coming soon...

    finally update pix

Bluetooth Microsoft Wireless Entertainment 7000 keyboard and mouse. A Sony infra-red USB receiver links the MCE remote.

PC Power and Cooling psu can just be seen in-back still powering the XBox externally - awaiting a standard XBox psu. Internal Corsair HX520W Modular powers the HTPC.

XBox has HDMI out to TV and ethernet networked.

Microsoft 7000 keyboard nicely complements everything.

MediaPortal software fully installed. Ethernet networked for streaming from server HDD or the web.

Mobo HDMI out is connected direct to the Sony KDF-50E HD-TV rear 'PC Mode' HDMI input for the video only.
    Display is set to 1280x720.

Mobo Optical out S/PDIF cable provides full sound direct to the Onkyo HT-R550 7.1 ch AV receiver.
