Alright started modding this case and well thought i mine as well make a work log for it. Old case was laying around was all beige and well beige is what started modding i think cause ppl got sick of it. This case is basically an idea case im putting all my ideas into one case to see what i can do. Im new to modding i have done work like blowholes and i have put a computer into an electrical box and an old cassette stereo thing and that is it. On to the project. Oh and i need some sort of theme for this case i rly dont have one. That and a name my names i like are either white lightning(was gona use white cc and some black lightning fan grills) or XERO which i just like the way it looks). I also need a cool paint scheme i was thinking carbon fiber film on front like a dark grey for all exterior metal and light grey for interior frame. Origanal front panel to the new one i will post a plan for the new one but i have to draw it up on sketchup still. New panel i cut out all the plastic it will be filled with aluminum and plexi. I hope this is a first like this i havent seen 2 many cases with the hole front cut out. Front panel frame Top going to put window up there but right now Side panel have idea for window. I will show a drawing of it later.' This is waht that panel looked like originally but htis is other side im going to put a badge type setup on it. Sketch of it later. Main frame and back the opeing is where back goes(had to work on it to make a 80mm fan fit in it, couldnt fit a fan before). back plate made a plate to add a fan to back you may notice the cut for the opening to add plate. Needs some work yes probally tomorrow i should have a couple of the sketchs done but if not oh well. Cant get much work done till i get my riveter and sand blaster in. As you can c i alrdy completly sanded the parts down they use to be a lovely(ahha)beige. Progress will be slow cause i gots stuff to do. This isnt just my project cause i have used some ideas from other peoples work so i will not call it just mine so if you have any ideas or items (got barely any cash but i can buy certain things)you think would look cool just post it and i will put it to thought.
hello there. I really like tidy, and clean cases. you could try to make it a lottle minimalistic, if you know what I mean. simple design, but still some details that make it special. like half diamand cornes on the wondow, maybe stealthened cd drives. OR Since you are from Florida, you could make it florida themed. I believe Florida is a large producer of oranges... and is hot.. so maybe cut a large round window in the door, and maybe frost the plexi, and engrave the stalk/stem (sorry i don't know the correct word for the thing oranges hang in), or maybe make it look like orange skin. speaking of orange skin.. you could paint it orange, and spray medium thick layers so you get that orange skin texture. and on the other side of the case, you could paint a palm and maybe the name of the case. maybe The sunshine (from the sunshine state) or something good luck mate
acid that is a good idea but i have another case that would look better with that. As a side note to that I could use orange peel texture paint for paint which would fell\look cool but back to this project. Im still stipulating the color but for right now im thinking an orange and black look colors in drawings. I did some work and made some sketchups of my ideas they are not perfect but are within 1/16" close on sizes. I find sketchup kind of hard to use compared to autodesk architecture which is more complicated but has alot more options to pick(also alot more expensive. Here is my idea for the side panel what i am going to do is mount a sheet of aluminum to the back of the side panel then use a sheet of 1/8" plexi in front of that. if i gave bad discription ohwell once i get my stuff in i will show you what i mean. The X for the window is only there cause for right now the case will be called Xero so the X fits the name. Can be changed though. Front panel i want to keep all my ideas for it hush hush right now cuase i dont know why but hey. Want to put a lcd in it below a windowed drive bay cover. Will put 80mm fan in it. The X will be painted black but sketchup wouldnt let me hatch it for some reason. Oh and the drawer setup is the hush hush part once i get sketch done of it you will know what it is.
I changed my paint scheme a bit not much. The black strip on side is side of the front panel. Sry bout the size of pic i didnt feel like changin it maybe i will later. [ Now i need some help which fan would look best. i have no good visualization of the paint scheme so i dont know. I want a quiet fan htat looks cool so if you have another one that is cheap then run it by me. NMB silent fan. Never herd of NMB but the specs of the fan are good and it isnt expensive. NMB silent Panaflo. I have this fan in my current comp that will be put in this case. They silent rly are. I know 50% if not more of the ppl that mod know about panaflo. Panaflo Aluminum fan unknown maker. Like the look of the aluminum and has good specs. But i dont know about site and its an unkown maker so its questionable. ALuminum fan The fan grill in unknown right now to i have some choices but none in cement. P.S will get more work on mod once my sandblaster and riveter come in. I just got some metal jigsaw blades dremel cutoff wheel pack(has lots of diff types it is made by dremel and has some reinforced bits in it to). The paint scheme is not concrete right now but it is only good one that is not seen very often if ever on computers.
Got all my supplys from harbor freight today so now i can start some work again. Still need to go out and get some aluminum plexi glass bondo. But by this weekend i will get some more work done. I redid my sketchs on autodesk architecture at my school and will post those sketchs (drafts) monday or tuesday. Also found cool site for aluminum fans has anyone herd of it.ALuminum fans
Got the top cut today and did a hand sketch of what i will fill it with. All the shaded in will be alumium painted some color the clear will be clear. On top of the aluminum fitting in the full square will be some plexi. In the center is a fan placement it will be round just didnt round it yet. Cut out top Sketch for window. Sry if it is hard to see im going to redo the sketch later on sketchup.
i love the design; however, im not a fan of the colors. if you like them, i say mod on, but i dunno. if you used a deeper orange, not the yellowy-orange shown in the sketch-up, it would be better. nice work so far though
Like i said paint is not final and a darker orange was what i was thinking. I just didnt want to add another color to sketchup. My only prob with this paint scheme is i cant find a diff color for the inside frame and stuff i want it to be a different color and look cool
Get more work done some of the harder and more time consuming work this weekend. While lying awake one night i thought about my color scheme and i realy dont like it the ony thing i like is using all white lights inside and using polished aluminum fans if anyone have a paint scheme they think would look better plz tell me. Still need to order lots of things like a power supply fans grills fans and well alot of things. Once i find my color scheme i will decide my fan grills but i rly dont know. Here is the side pane l cutout what im going to do is use rivets and mount this to back of side panel then put plexi in front of it using rivets. This little buger took me 2 hours to cut and like 1 hour to file down and im still not smooth. This is the top panel will be done just like the side panel with rivets and plexi in front of the metal. The fan is not cut out yet but will be once i mount it. I would have mounted them to the side panel but then i would have to remove them again to paint them so it was easier this way. Still have to do the front i have the metal cut out but i need to cut the design in it and i dont have it designed yet. The fan holes are not done yet but will be sonner or later. I also got the back done so that i can mount an 80mm fan to it but i have to cut more off so it will fit right. With that in mind would this be an ok airflow having one fron 80mm intake 1 side 80mm intake 1 top 80mm outake 1 back 80mm outakke and then the power supply fan.
Think i have finally found a fan grill that rly works with what i want to do with the case. X Grill For paint im thinking like the outside all black then the window plate like a dark red and the interior a dark grey saw a car with this paint scheme and though it was pretty cool looking. Also finsihed the sketch for my front window this will be locaged below the cd rom drives. P.S. this thing took forever to make sure it loked egual due to its odd size and being rectangular its gona be funny when i have to draw it on the metal.
I really like this side panel. I think it would be cool to sort of paint in shadows along the intersection to make it look latticed or some other type of overlapping look. Nice job so far. ---Bazman
Got some work odne this weekend got the back done i just need to add plexi to it and then cut window hole for it also did the front window back plate will post pics of it later. BAck panel. I was just going to add a fan back here but would of been alot of cutting around and found that putting a window would be faster and easier. Hopefully space will be ok for all the components i didnt rly think about that untill i cut it out AHHHHh. the case origanally had welded in back plates to cover the pci slots i cut all those out but now i cant think of a way to cover them again for pci slots i dont use. Is there anywhere where they sell pci slot covers.
No physical work done but got more planning done and think i found my color scheme out.Decided to go with a yellow and black paint scheme as it isnt to popular and i think it has a good contrast.Color scheme. I may use colored plexi galss as well but not sure on that as for what the case will look like with this scheme not sure going to sketch it up later. Im planning on controlling all my fans with on-on switchs here is the ones im thinking of using they will be out of site in the DRAWER(i will post plans on this later i think it is pretty origanal). Switchs. Also going to get some on off switchs for cc's and leds. Main thing im trying to find right now is some cool looking 4 pin connector and plugs for the junction box im going to make to distribute power to the drives. Im thinking of using either rca or headphone plugs for fans to plug in. Here is the front panel for the window will be hacked up some when i get DRAWER setup in and the fan cut out. Im going to cut out the letters in this as a lite up badge type of setup will use leds to light up plexi which will be behind it. These as most know are those meter things i have no clue what they are called. I want to cut one out above XERo in the above picture i think it will look ok but i cant draw one that looks any good. I think one of those drawing things could look cool in the side panel. And nice lettering on the xero btw. Keep up the good work
Decided to do a mock up of what the case will look like some what still have cutting and bondoing to do in certain parts but this is some what, what it will look like. Side still needs some bondo work where i cut to far but its close. This is just what the top looks like fan needs to be cut out in middle so it will look different. The front of the case and part of side. Of course the Xero will be cut out and the fan in the front will. Also still need to finish plans for concealing all the switches and things in the front DRAWER. Back this is the main part that what you see is really close to what you get. All i need to do with this is bondo all the metal to blend together and relocate a rivet i put in the wrong place. I think in the picture you can tell that the 3 triangle will be cut out and the rest wil be like mesh or some material. I would rather use a grill that i can buy as it will look nicer becuase the only tool i have that could cut it would be a dremel and such small cuts would be a pain and look not so great. I think i know what I'm doing for the fan grills in all other places on case except the one on the front i have looked at the front then looked at the fan grills and they just don't look right so i sketched up one and i want to see what you people think of it or if you have one that you think would look cool. My power supply came in today i will post pics of it later. While thinking about my idea to make junction boxes for better wire segmentally i though why waist a perfectly good power supply so while i still may do this it isn't a guarantee right now. The reason i don't is that i spent 50 dollars which is 2 days work so if mess it up (which i know would be hard to do) then i would be out 2 days worth the money not that it matters much but its the concept of messing the thing up cause it looks pretty cool by itself but i don't know. Going to finally sketch up designs on drawer later on tonight so that should be posted probably tomorrow i want to go get some bondo to get all that work done but it will probably be a project for next weekend. I may i don't know order my 4 aluminum fans tonight it depends on it i positive on them or not. Well that is all for now signing out for Now.
