yeah, i wasnt planning on buying the plans just yet....

mainly cos there are a load of free ones on diyaudio

some basic things id like to know are,

why some people use a mirror to "divert" the picture to the lens by 45degrees, is that just for the sake of making the box a bit smaller? or does it have some advantage ive missed.

and also, why some designs have a fresnel behind the lcd and others dont? whats the advantage of having 2?

the only thing id be worried about in making one of my own would be the stripping of the lcd, howd that go for you, and what model lcd did u strip down?

    cheers

Mirrors are simply used to reduce the size of the box, but you have to be careful as non-optimal positioning results in light-loss.

All should have a fresnel lens, it spreads out the light evenly over the panel. Not using a fresnel reults in a overbright middle fading to dark edges. I can't remember the advantage to using two split fresnels sorry, the answer should be on diyaudio though ;)

I didn't strip an LCD screen, I bought an LCD panel for far less :) You can buy panels specifically designed for projection, in nice sturdy casing, simply minus the backlight but with a window on both the front and back. Stripping an LCD screen would achieve higher res etc and wouldn't be too difficult, but I got my panel for less than £80, which is cheaper than any tfts i found ;) If you decide to go for the stripping option, look for a thread in diyaudio listing good/bad tfts :thumb:
