    PS2 Grill Light Mod
(to be noted before trying mod: you will have to fnd your own way if you are using a Internet Adapter, for it gets in the way)

First off the supllies you will need for this mod are:
Lazer LED (color of your choice the pic feature blue)
Foam Tape (or other adhesive material)
Spare ATX PSU (you can use the one in the computer but it is alot safer to use a spare)
Spare Molex Extenders (not needed depending on positioning of spare
    PSU)

Step 0(If neccassary): take your spare ATX PSU and to hot wire it you
take a paper clip or piece of bulk wire(paper clip stays in place better) the red in this pic represents which to pins to connect. This will allow ur PSU to start without a MoBo
    [IMG]

Step 1:Attaching the Lazer LED to the PS2
    [IMG]
Start by removing the expansion bay cover in the back of the PS2 where the internet adapter goes

cut a piece of foam tape the size of the lazer LED and place it at a position so that u get teh maximum amount of light through the grill
    [IMG]
    this is the foam tape

Step 2: Power Your Lazer LEDs
Try to put your hotwired PSU as close to the PS2 as possible but for looks issues try to keep it out of sight. plug in the light!

    Step 3: Wiring The Switch
    [IMG]
extend teh wires as long as u need them to reach ur bezel, (cut holes in bezel for switch (im sure u can find ur own guide for cutting holes, it is also pretty self explanatory) no matter wat type of switch u use for this mod, it doent matter which pole u connect each wire to beacuse it is on the same line, just secure the wires to the switch and u are all set
    [IMG]

    FINAL PRODUCT
    [IMG]

    YOUR DONE!

    soo...simple...yet, so....easy...

yeah, i play SOCOM II online, so i have the network adapter...and you can probably use the existing PS2 power supply for power...for those of us who like to void our warantees...(if you have an old PS2...the warantee is probably already out)

Yeaha, i will do more research about using the PS2 CPU for lazer leds or even a cold cathode.

Another thing...if you are really up with the times for the PS2.. and you have a hard drive and final fantasy 11... then you will have even more trouble with this

I just realized...for all with a PS2 with a network adapter....and want the effect that sick has....you can use the a similar meathod to the molex extension in this guide http://www.eight-four.com/systems/showmod.asp?id=12
You combine this and sicks meathod +the molex section of this guide.....it might just work.......!!!!!!!!!!!!

My network adaptor also has a molex and IDE connector on it. So im assuming you could just connect the laserled to the network adaptors molex.

If you're talking about the 5v in modchip diagrams, I don't think that's a good idea. What's the matter, 12v not good enough for you? :D

    psu = pc power supply.
molex extender is sonething that makes the cables comming from the psu longer.
If you ask me he should have used 12V from the ps2 psu then there wouldn't be all thoses cables and stuff.

where are these people comming from

NO NO NO NO NO! :wallbash:

do NOT connect +5v and ground!!

it should be the pins beside those! (com and ps-on) :thumb:

(might be useful to know if you dont want a power supply in your "dead hardware" box!)

lol! Well the first thing I thought about that was why not use the powe from the PSU itself... or it gets pinned to your PC which seems a bit crap for showing off on the road.

Yes it would be possible to run the LED or cold cathode from the online adapters molex. the reason the maker of this article didnt say that is he does not have an online adapter so he wouldnt know it has a molex in the drive bay. i know it works because before they came out with the PS2 HDD i tried my 8 gig on it and it spun up and all, just i had no way of doing anything with it at the time so i dont know if it would work with the PS2. i am going to do this mod tomorrow morning with a little change in it. im going to put a 12" cold cathode in going the whole way across the front of the PS2 if possible because my warranty has been gone for about 2 years

It's the "green one" and any "black one" for simpletons such as myself.

The hard drive power is only enabled when the hard drive driver is loaded. If you aren't using the hard drive when playing then your cathode won't light up. Just use the 12v from the PSU.

when i put my harddrive in i didnt have the drivers and it spun up, i think it depends on how new your ps2/adapter is.

*edit*:mine are kinda old ill go test it now.
