Here is a link to a few pics of my ps2 mod... click here basically, to simplify the mod... i took my ps2 apart, mainly just to see what was inside. nice. then i decided to cut it with a saw. i literally took a big saw to the thing, and hacked it in two. then removed the expansion bay, and was left with the mainboard, with psu unit about it, and the drive. i stacked all 3 units on top of each other, insulating the base of the main board, from the drive using a sheet of thin wood. then i proceeded to test it in its naked state. all went well. trip to the hardware shop, got me some mdf sealer, some enamle paint, sand paper of various grades, primer, some brushes, and some wood glue. i found a sheet of mdf laying around, cut out the box sides. glued them together, and mounted the ps2 inside. then painted it. took about 2 days in all. and the finished product is pretty cool. about the same size as a gamecube now, and very unique. works fine too.
i personaly dislike what youve done with it... but you did a great job making good job on cutting the MDF. and btw, all that count is you like it! keep up the
It's all tiny! Though I recommend ditchin' the PS2 fan and getting a 120mm fan running at 5v instead... much better for cooling but quieter than the PS2 fan... after all, the PS2s are very sensitive to heat. But still man. SWEEEEET MOD.
blue is my favourite colour, so chose it for the mod. the flash on the digital camera has made the blue appear kinda baby blue. it's a nice rich blue, the same as the scroll bar on the right in this forum. i like working with mdf, and most wood, as i've made several things in the past with the stuff, and find it easy to correct mistakes, and work with it. i was planning on making a pc case out of the stuff... though would this be a crazy idea? the mod has good cooling, ok it uses the stock fan, but a bigger one wont fit in this mod. it draws the air in from the side, above the power/reset switches. this air cools the mainboard heatsink, and is extracted throught the fan at the back. i'm planning on eventually taking it back out of the case, and modding it into a pc case, along with a pc and gamecube, similar to yoshi's boxx yoshi's box so, would an mdf pc case be sensible? i want to create a dasktop style case, with a window in the top, and various other mods...
Very nice, add some custom paint jobbies to the boxy dealy, and then stealth the CD drive. BOOM! Classy. Very nice, good to see original work done, now I can be the first to copy.... wait nm, not risking another PS2.... yes another.... =\
