Has anybody any experience of trying to repair a ps3 with the problem in the title? After having a look online there seems to be two fixes for it, hairdryer which only gives you enough time to backup game saves and a heatgun fix which can work for a few months. I have two ps3's both with this same problem, one of thm is the original 60GB beast which plays the ps2 games, which is why I want to fix it Which heatgun would me suitable though? I have spotted these two on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shrink-Bu...76?pt=UK_Home_Power_Tools&hash=item336ae7e9dc http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000W-Hot...Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item4183c6915f Couldnt a hairdryer be used instead of the heatgun though?
No its about 1/8th the heat output. You need to melt the solder around a couple of components on the board. Hairdriers are nowhere near hot enough. Its actually quite simple having done a few myself. Any old heatgun should do as long as it gets above 400C.
I finally got round today to doing this! but I ... failed. I looked at many guides but each one seems to have a different strategy with more/less time with heatgun one guide had doing the back of the board and some holding the heatgun close and far from the board I dont know which one i should be following? i followed one the one where they did the back of the bnard with the heatgun as well as front but still yellow light persists any ideas what i could try? the ps3 i tried to fix was the 40gb. i still have the 60gb to fix too,id be happier to get the 60gb working but im trying on the 40gb as this is my first ever go so dont want to mess up the 60gb anymore than it already is
I've just tried again to fix it, this time its fixed the ylod... but there are artifacts on screen like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-QeolmIjy0 green blotches on the screen and not responding only way to switch off is hold down power button, did i do the fix wrong or do i need to do it again or what do i do now? the first time i was able to load up a game half way then now ever since it just does it on the xmb and on start up, last time i tried the picture stayed black and it said mode not supported wow i cant believe it ive done the fix over the 60gb ps3 then it worked right, but the disc drive didnt work, so i put the disc drive from the 40gb into the 60gb and nwow no power no red lgiht no nothing, ive checked and all cables everything in properly but no power no idea really unhappy now, as spent all wwekend trying to get them going
