I can see what he means - WiiSports and SMG on the Wii, Halo and Forza on the X360... GT5 and LittleBigPlanet on the PS3? Dunno really.

OMG his ego is getting almost as big as his failure to deliver his promises! I would have thought Gears of War would be the defining title for the 360. I do agree that the PS3 is lacking a defining title and i think LBP will be the one, although i'm pretty sure some would say MGS4 is the PS3's defining title.

I'm agreeing with a lot of this. Molyneux needs to deliver on the promises he makes before I listen to any more of his posturing. Black & White promised the earth, as did B&W2 and Fable... none of them really made me stop and look and be awed the way some other games have.

As for 'defining game' on the PS3... depends what genre you want to talk about. GT5 is coming if you want a driving sim, MGS4 is already here, Disgaea 3 is made of extreme amounts of awesome. The PS3 needs some really good RPGs; when they come, I won't care about anything else. :D

PS3 needed that FF13 exclusive, they lost a LOT of their potential audience when that went multiplatform. All the PS fanboys I've known have really just been FF fanboys...

Also 360 doesnt need a defining game... if you want to claim that title you kinda need to release a little earlier in the consoles life cycle. The more this man speaks the more I want his game to be bad =/

Molyneux hasn't made a defining game since Populous back in the 80s.

Besides, defining titles should really be exclusive - which Fable 2 isn't.

Square-Enix increased their potential audience when they went multi-platform... by a lot. Sony, on the other hand, lost one of the bigger draws to the PS3 - I know a fair few people who would have sunk almost any amount necessary on a PS3 simply for FFXIII. I have to say that pre-FFXII, I'd probably have been one of them, but with how much I disliked XII, FFXIII probably wouldn't make me buy a PS3 for it alone.

Final Fantasy VII has a lot to answer for... ;)

I dunno what he means by 'defining' game, that's the problem. Does he mean 'game that everyone goes mad over' or does he mean 'game that shows the capabilities of the console to their utmost, while being, in every sense of the word... an excellent game'? If it's the first, Gears of War or Halo 3 probably fit the bill. If he means the latter... could someone point out a game that is that good (in their opinion, obviously)?

If they did a FF7 remake, I bet their sales would skyrocket.

Quite possibly. First PS3 game to come on two Blu-ray discs... HD 1080p video for all the FFVII cutscenes. :D

LBP WILL be the defining game for the PS3, fun, doesn't require testosterone, and multiplayer. Kind of like an Adult wii, but not a "scary" 360.

D'oh! You're right (oh, how it hurts to say that) - I got confused by the article, and thought Monlyneux was talking about Fable 2 being a defining title for the PS3.

he's hoping Fable 2 will be A defining game for the 360 but not saying it already has games that define it like Gears... just in the way it could be defining by spreading the genres it is known for.

I have to say GT5 would be for PS3 and LBP may be but actually MSG4 hasn't been, unless you actually say it's defining as being blown out of proportion and cost too much with limited sales.

yes he has a big ego but avoid the hatred and try to be objective and see that he has a point...

Gears of War and Forza are the games that define the 360 in my opinion. Halo 3 just doesn't quite make it (even though I'm a Halo fanboy) and definitely not Fable 2. The PS3 has no defining titles yet and I don't see LBP as been the first.

I'm still waiting on FF versus XIII. it looks freaking badass and square-enix are claiming that it's the darkest FF game they've ever made. still, it has been a pain in the ass that they've had all of 2 or 3 trailers to show of the game for the many years that it's been announced for.
and yes, I would sell one of my own kidneys to get my hands on an FFVII remake. I would love a Chrono Trigger remake for consoles as well, and not just a port for DS. full remake dammit. now that could be a badass game that would have me salivating at just the thought.

So a guy who is currently only developing 360 exclusive games thinks the PS3 still needs a defining title? What does it matter to him? Lionhead is owned by Microsoft. He'll never develope for the PS3 anyway.

He's getting people to buy the 360 by saying that the PS3 doesn't have anything special for it
