Hi guys, Just a quick question I have chance to buy a 60GB PS3 for a little over £200, shall i get this or would it be best to get a 40GB or 80GB version for £300? I know the 60GB had PS2 backwards and features more usb and card reader slots and chrome front, but were/are there issues with it playing games? It comes with 2 controllers and a limited edition controller stand. I think its a bargin just concerned about the issues
Sounds like a good deal... what do you mean by issues? The USB's really i've only used for charging up the pad so not sure how usefull it is having more of them, is suppose you could charge and play with 4 pads if you had4 USB' instead of one...The HDD is swappable with any 2.5 inch hdd so the size of that is a non issue... I've just recently got a 80GB model, the only other thing that it brings new to the table is the inclusion of rumble in the pads that the original sixaxis didn't have... I'd say go for it! I Paid 309 for mine with no backwards compatability and MGS4....
I'd advise that you got the 60GB - its the one they made before cutting costs And the 60GB does everything perfectly...
I've got the 60 gb (stopped making em here in Canada) and just put a 250 gb hard-drive in it, and it's great. No problems, had it since christmas the first year they came out. Had actually gone to buy a 360 and got the very last ps3
nah, the 60gb is the better deal as the 40GB if i remember has not Backwards Compatibility with the older PS2 games while the 60 can playem all so to speak. Nice find.
ok, well youtube search for PS3 HDD upgrades, you'll soon find that its bloody easy to increase storage. My partners brother has a 60GB model and its nearly full and they only have 5 games. Not to sure how the PS3 works as i dont own one, but he is rather miffed.
I have many games (just traded 9 in, but still have a good 7 or 8 at home) plus 3 or 4 demos, and i still have a lot of space. Has he been downloading a lot of games / demos / movies onto the hard drive? @ Hg80: Congrats, enjoy that heavy fancy piece of technology. Hopefully you get more use out of yours, than I do out of mine... I'm an avid pc gamer, I can't shoot a still target with a ps3 controller lol.
I didnt get the console new, i got it 2nd hand and for little over £200, u can not find any 40GB models for less then that mansueto i am also a true PC gamer, and still spend 80% of my time and money on my PC games however its nice to have all the consoles so i can play the silly exclusives like MGS4, GT, GOG, Fable2, Zelda etc
It is all about the 60GB version, bought mine for stupid cheap from a mate about a month ago, and I love it. basically all I've played is PS2 games and it does so perfectly, even upscales them (whatever good that does) But yeah, good choice, and the hard drive is easy enough to upgrade if ever you feel necessary
Yea, rockband and guitar hero are great when friends are over, and sports games, few racing games here and there, but any shooter / rpg is much better on a pc... but that's just my opinion, and the ps3 is still a powerful tool as it's a blu-ray player also.
Kind of agreed actually, although the extra USB's are useful on the 60GB I have one of each (one's a blu ray player in the front room) and I use the 60GB for gaming. I've just now installed a 250GB HDD on the gaming room one so I can use it for PlayTV when it's out which is sweet. I'd deffo advise installing a 7200RPM drive as they do make a difference to load times
congrats, I have a 60GB as well. The upscaling of ps2 games (iirc) adds some anti-aliasing. Best thing about the 60gb version is that it actually has ps2 hardware inside it, so will play any ps2 game, whereas the 80gb one is software emulation, so may have problems.
