Hi all, haven't posted in a while. I was thinking about buying a ps4 and hooking it up to my Dell u2412m, would this be a bad idea? If it's 1200p would the play station upscale to fit the screen? What about input lag etc? Cheers.
Doing a quick Google search; it may either stretch the image which would make it seem a bit distorted, or the monitor may put it in a letterbox format which means you'll have black edges in order to maintain a 1080P aspect ratio. There's only one real way to find out. Plug it in and let us know! Input lag? It'll be the same as if you were gaming from your PC.
The U2412m does not have a 'preserve-aspect' or '1:1 mapping' menu option, so you will have a stretched image when feeding it 1920x1080. The PS3 cannot output 1920x1200, so unfortunately there is no solution.
Having done this with the 360 some years ago, I noticed that circles weren't circular, but were oval-shaped. It's not that bad, though!
Based on using my 360 with a 2412M [over VGA] and running games at 1080p - 1080p stretches to fit so you end up with slight distortion rather than letterboxing... personally i'd rather have the letterboxing but as jinq-sea points out, after a while you'll probably not notice...
