Console-gaming is something I do, when I've invited friends over for a beer etc, so I don't really care about PSN being down or not.

Consoles are a casual offline-thingy imho.

I thought it strange that, when I popped my GOW3 disc in last night for the first time, that it 'downloaded' and updated the game to 1.03.

Going to come right out with and say...

Never really played online or enjoyed it particularly, so no effected here, in the slightest.

Sucks for those who are effected though. PC gaming has been more rewarding than console gaming for me recently. In fact, the PS3 is only for the big exclusives now + blu-ray.

Me too :) but being able to demo the latest games without the need to buy a mag was nice though, since it's been pushed back virtually a full month I can see this being a huge problem for sony, holy moly they p'd off hackers it seems :D, I mainly got the ps3 for some exclusives once there was enough to justify buying one & still don't regret it :).

This is misinformation, if you got the full news from sony yes full functionality won't be back till the end of the month but they are in the final stages of testing they will be bring the online gaming back first which will be sometime soon and then by the end of the month things like the playstation store will be back on.

The only thing that makes me mad about this is I bought Portal 2 for PS3 expecting to be able to play it on PC also and come to find out my steam account has to be linked with my PSN account and I can't do that with PSN down. This won't deter me away from using PSN when it does come back online. PS3 FOREVER!

I think the most surprising result of this is how little I have actually missed using my PS3.

In fact will be in no rush to return to it when it gets resolved.

General apathy must be bit of a concern for Sony.

I dusted of Team Fortress 2 and Battlefield 2 on my PC and I couldn't be happier,

Same as everyone really, don't enjoy playing against winey kids so I don't MP on PSN, but it was nice to try out demos.

As for ever buying anything off it when/if it ever comes back up....lolz no way :)

Regardless of it being Sony or why the attack is happening. I'm amazed that the network will be down for 40 days due to an attack. Seriously, in the networking industry thats a stupidly large amount of time. Hell, even after the Japan earthquake, we had our stuff sorted out and working within the week, even working around the exclusion zone.

I can only think that Sony have the worst implemented security systems known to mankind, or they've done the old:

    "we need this fixed"
"well, we can have it up tomorrow is money isn't an issue"
"errr, is there a budget option?"

The PSN network was never implemented properly (ultra slow downloads without a proxy server and laggy as **** streaming.) CBA to comment on latency .............to many!"!

I believe this was a bunch of disgruntled IT chaps who had the most IMBA of rage's against PSN to destroy version 1.0 and provide the catalyst for version 2.0.......... a thought anyway :D

This really sucks!! I thought waiting til May 31st was way too long especially being a PLUS MEMBER for gaming but now my Netflix has gone to crap on the PS3 and it just tells me that it cannot connect to the PSN duh!

I wanted to upgrade from my older model PS3 to the newer and bigger hard drive PS3 but I may not go that route now... possibly an Xbox in my future!

Picking up LA Noire on friday and will not be able to use the pre order bonus code as a result, much like my MK9 online pass code.
I do not blame sony for this, I just hope this does not happen again in the future, and hey anon cannot be the only hacker community out there, but they may have been partly responsible for the service being compromised.

Phased Restoration started last night. U.S. is completely back online and Europe should be coming back up soon if not already in some parts. Downloading version 3.61 now on mine.
