After trudging throw many pages on informative posts, it seems that the UK PAL version of the PS-ONE LCD screen doesn't power up with using the AV input, and needs 5v running through its DCC pin.

So looks like the AV route is out of the question, and I'll have to go out and but a new soldering iron. :blah:

aight, ive got some no-name brand psone lcd, the wiring is whacked so i wanna go the av route.

My radeon 9600XT has tv-out, but no picture shows on the screen!
The sound is all good, but no picture :(
anyone know how to fix it?
I really like this mod :D

EDIT: Im not sure what composite and all that is, but my lcd takes the same plug as the back of the psone, it turns into the red, white, yellow plugs on the other end. any help appreciated :)

This seems like a really great mod, and I decided to take the plunge, but I'm not sure if I'm in over my head here.

I've got my screen all apart, and I'm ready to solder the connections for the VGA, but I have some Q's first... The VGA cable I got has these wierd rubber ends that I can't take apart. I was just wondering if the color coding in the diagrams is standard for VGA cables, or is that just a guide, and you need to use individual wires. I know in CAT5 cables, the colors are standard, but I'm not sure about VGA. Then the other part of that is, in the diagrams, is the VGA connector wired like that, or do you have to re-arrange the wires for them to be that way?

I also read that you can use a PSone AV Multi connector to connect to the LCD.
Here are the PSone Pinouts. If I was to do this, and thus save soldering directly onto the LCD, would it be the same as a VGA signal?

I'm a Noob to hardware mods, and I don't want to screw my LCD up, so I want to make sure I do it right.

    Thanks for any input, guys.

I suggest getting yourself a little multi-meter. If you're doing any soldering or electronics, one of these is a must. If you get one, you can easily test to see what pin goes to what colour wire. Then you can use it to test your soldering for any shorts etc. :)

I'm just about to try this mod, the LCDs came today. (PAL) I'll let you know how it goes.

I want to try using composite first before I do the VGA mod. I've got a PAL sony psone screen, so can I make it work by using a resistor between the 7.5V supply and the DCC pin? Will my PAL lcd then power on safely and show a picture from my TV out or dvd player?

errrr. it dont have a standard composite AV input.. you need to buy a composite to 3.5mm jack lead that has the yellow red and white plugs on it at one end then a headphone-style jack at the other.. and as well as that.. what are you planning to use for the main power source??? a PC PSU or what? if you are planning to use the standard psu that comes with it.. just plug it in and go :)

I want to use the supplied 7.5V power adapter that came with the LCD. I'll get a RCA to minijack lead for the DVD player to AV input.

    [EDIT]
So, You think I don't need 5V into the DCC pin to have it work as a standalone LCD screen on RCA then?
    BTW, I don't own a PSone.

    [YET ANOTHER EDIT]
My PAL psone lcd DOES work with just the suplied power adapter and an AV in. I got it working with a different lead. The lead is a normal stereo mini-jack to red and white phono plugs. The RED plug goes into the s-video out convertor on my graphics card, and the mini-jack into the AV in on the screen. Sorry about the miss-information above.

I've tried something similar - I have it connected to the composite on my graphics card via an svideo convertor. It's detected fine, and the extended desktop seems to be working (I can drag folders etc into it). Only trouble is it's in black and white! :wallbash: I have it set to 'PAL I' in windows (I'm in UK and it's a PAL screen) and cant think what else it might be.

    Any ideas anyone?

    This is my idea

    Hi, i´m casper from Argentina.
I have a Rotel DVD player case. The DVD is broken, so i decided to make dvd/divx/mp3 player with this parts. I have an asus mobo, geforce4, and 128mb RAm. The idea is to add an LCD screen in the front side of the case. The problem is that i can´t find the original psone lcd fron sony. Instead of that i can only buy a 4'' LCD from Madcow. I dunno if i can connect VGA out from this LCD. Does anybody has made this? or Where i can buy the original one fron the internet?

    thanks

Assuming that's a third party PSone screen it probably uses composite TV in, which you could use instead with a video card with TV out... it won't be as crisp as using VGA I imagine, but I use TV out to run my mini screen and it's fairly decent.

    Hi Calnen,
do you have the TV out set to SVideo or Composite? Normally a mono picture is the result of an SVideo o/p connected to a composite I/P, or visa versa

Hi, all. I have a 9700 with composite out, which I want to use. I have the screen all working on this but I can only get a clone of my normal screen 19” running 1280x1024. What I would like to know is how I set this thing up so I can display system settings and so on in the 5” lcd?

I have read this any many forums linked form this thread but non (unless I have missed) something seem to say how to do this. I do not at the mo witch to use the second VGA port on my card.

Thanks for such a great thread
