Hi there... His screen works OK now, but he's had to clamp the ribbon onto the PCB - Took ages to get that right! It's now buried in his ongoing projector project, and hasnt missed a beat since! The original PSX has all the right connectors, even the power line I think.. Unfortunately, the shape of the screen's mount stop it from connecting, and there arent any holes for it to screw into either....
Ok i picked myself up a new screen and some cables to go with svideo instead of VGA and i am getting nothing, With the svideo option you dont need to do the DCC trick for pal screens? that is only needed for the VGA mod right? This is starting to drive me around the bend now.
To test just the screen get a flashlight and shine it through. The image will show. Maybe it is a fualty backlight. So yoiu could try testing it.
I have just done this mod, without significant problems.. I found that I still had to do the DCC trick to display svideo. I am using a PAL screen. I also found that using composite (SVHS) that the colours weren't that nice. A rouge tint to the screen. Skin tones looked a little ruddy in piccies and films. The VGA mode is noticably better for colour balance. I didn't make any effort however to rectify the tone using the pc controls. FYI when you do the DCC trick the sceen will permanently light up, regardless of wether a signal is present. It sounds to me that either you have a fault in the inverter circuit, or the DCC isn't connected properly. I noticed that someone mentioned before that he/she had considered using the pal version because the resolution is higher. Can I just give me experiance here. I believe the actual resolution on the pal screens is actually 640x480i. The timings are certainly for a higher resolution, but that doesn't mean the screen is working at the higher figure. My reason for thinking this is that when I made up a samurize screen at the higher res, it does not all fit on the screen, there is definately overscan at play on the one I have here. Hope my experiance is usefull.
The next connector (to the left of your arrow) the far right hand side (yers is blue mine red) is the hot terminal for composite input take that blue to the hot (center) of an RCA take the white right beside it (or another ground) to the ring (ground lug) of the said RCA there's your input... Make it a female RCA then use a standard pigtail to tap into any composite source... I'm assuming this is NTSC... not Pal I donno what the pin out woud be for "s" video but it's basically composite anyway....
PSONE LCD Mod - repack ok now I have read all 50 pages or more and my goodness in the time of this mod, many folks have done this and have either had great success or issues. I have set up my lcd with the vga set up by using the below link(s). Started with this one http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2004/07/07/psone_lcd/1.html Then liked this one much better. http://tidder.rudyatek.com/tidder/lcd/ Now I have an NTSC PSONE screen and I am using ATI 7500 64mb. I have been doing the SWAP thing once windows or ATI recongizes the monitor but at this point it is annoying and sometimes locks my computer up. I get a picture but it is double on my screen and it is the extended not cloned view of my desktop. I have the newest powerstip on and as I have it set to the tutorial guides except if I hit C-sync and Interlaced it goes crazy. ANYONE figured out or know what I need to do to fix this to get it to work. I have seen the resistor mod and I don't need the DCC line as I had it connected and I cut it while it was on and no problems. What are the possiblities of someone redoing this mod in a tutorial and all those that have them working, post the critical information about your system or video card and of course powerstrip settings. I figure it could be of quick assistance and help for those that may have the same card. Also reducing the extent of this 50 page forum done over the last few years. Well any help would be great.
I have this mod in a Custom PC mag I have. They show you how to do the mod and what software you need. A friend has borrowed my mag and just gone on holiday for a week. I'll send an e-mail to the magazine company, and ask them if I can post their article on it (don't really want to get done for copyright infringement!). If they say yes, I'll post it up, but if they say no I'll still let everyone know. I want to do this mod as well as part of a project for my girl friends new PC.
Side Note: The PS1 is missing a particular IC the denotes the resolutions and modes supported. Thought that it was posted on this site? The IC is available at Digi and it's a simple wireup. Inits the screen at boot replete with bios capibilities I Only have this info handy it's a DCC Prom 24LC21 serial E-prom wired to pin 12 on the vga shell - fed +5volt for operation and pulls pin 15 vga shell - taps pin 5 vga shell for ground - taps v-sync pin 14 vga shell which is the v-syn output -> leads to a 4way X-Or "sync combiner" which is the pre processed c-syn line to the display (did the combiner mod) I know it's vague but search on DCC will help (thats the display hardware language) or on the e-prom specifically -
