i got the "unnknown" matrox today and it turned out to be a mystique ! :D

the sad part is that if i install it, and reboot, it tels me it wasn't initialiced.

if i swithch priority from AGP to PCI in BIOS, AND plug my monitor to the 6600gt and the lcd to the mystique, i get to windows loading screen and it hungs there :(

it does load windows in SAFE MODE.

Well everything sounds good except for the hang thing, you have the same setup as me otherwise. If it doesn't happen in safe mode, then it's probably a software problem. Try configuring the mystique in powerstrip from safe mode and then starting normally, it might help.

Please, will somebody with a ATI Radeon 7000 32Mb or Diamond S60 Stealth 64 32Mb (same thing) copy and post your Powerstrip settings?

I finally got it working (with wrong timings) on the 2nd Radeon 7000 adapter, but can't get the timings for Powerstrip right. I can see the screen halved or quartered. Hehehe - it will save me 15 bux on buying a Mystique. I've read others had problems with a Radeon 7000, so I know some of you tried it.

As a side note, I did get a perfect picture ONCE on my ATI X850 XT Platinum Edition when I did the switch plugs on the back of the computer trick, so I know its capable. The only problem is they don't stick after a restart and you lose your main screen when you do that.

P.S. In my BIOS on my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum, I see no options for giving PCI Express Video Adapter Priority over a PCI video adapter after it was installed. Question, when you speak of switching AGP to have greater Priority than PCI Video Adapter in Windows, where are you setting this option? In my case it would be PCI > PCI Express in Windows I'm assuming you're talking about making the PCI display adapter the Primary Adapter in Display Properties????

YES!!! OMGWTFYES!!! I FINALLY GOT IT WORKING! :)

Not too clear, but I don't mind for now :)

    Now, my problem:

I was intending to use this as a mini screen to help me with maps n things with WoW, but it won't let me use it with WoW. Comes up with the following error:

Yet, it's fine if I deactivate my second screen.

ATI error? Or some bug that I now have to debug? :(

Ok, so I finally finished the cosmetic side of things, here are the images. You'll notice that I didn't use the bits of PCB that connect to the ps one, I just hardwired straight to the controller, I think it looks nicer.

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix the 3 1/2 bay? the cable has to be able to move, so drilling a hole would be no use. I might just cut a slot in one of the plastic blanks and use it.

its finally working with the 4 Mb matrox mystique PCI.

i left priority to AGP, so i have to disable/enable the pci card each time i load windows, and some times the second monitor won't show up in display properties, so i have to reboot when that happens.

choosing PCI as primary for DOS is not an option i have to modify the bios VERY often.

now one question... i saw people watching movies on the LCD, i could do that when i used my 6600gt tv-out, but now, with the mystique, its really choppy, it causes an overall system slowdown, AND it hanged once :(

    any sugestions ?

PD: with matrox drivers cpu utilization seems higher than with windows XP default drivers

Just to let anyone know, if they ever have that kind of problem, I was able to fix it. Once you've set the powerstrip settings on your LCD and the LCD is running perfectly, shut down powerstrip, the settings will stay saved until you reboot the computer (and then it's only a matter of the swap trick for me).

Edit: I downloaded the latest version of Powerstrip, and it seems to fix the problem even when running.

elmodder: What media player are you using? I don't know if a 4mb Matrox would exactly be able to handle the power... try downloading Media Player Classic from Sourceforge, it may give you better performance.

    Timings for Radeon 7000

Nobody has any timings for this mod on a PCI Radeon 7000 as the second adapter?

    i have bsplayer and MPC.

but a samurize config takes 6% of cpu on my primary display, and 12 on the lcd (using the pci card)

I had to do some minor repairs to my unit today (some soldering came off), and when I reattached I had to redo my powerstrip settings (which now take all of 20secs :p) and I was amazed how much more clear it was after that...

Anywho, I was wondering if anyone knew if it's possible to, say, get the sound to work over USB? AFAIK it would be a matter of wiring 1 pin to Sound In, 1 to Sound Out and 1 to +5v, but I have no computer experience so I don't want to **** my unit over because I'm a t0tal n00b...

this is strange, my pci VGA wasn't starting with windows, i had to disable/enable it on the device manager, (i left priority to agp or windows wouldn't load).

i changed nvidia SW ide drivers to microsoft ones (testing other stuff, not related to the lcd) and now both video cards start just fine.

    will this one work?

I've noticed that you can use "most ATI cards" for this mod.

    I found an old ATI Mach64, 8mb.

Since it's from 1994, I can't find any specs on it -- will this one work?

sorry to bump an old thread, but has anyone considered using one of these?
they come with the ps2 linux kit. I can't find another source for them, tho. the other problem is the connectors were born the wrong sex, which isn't a problem for the vga end, but would be for the psone screen end. any ideas?
I tried the serio way, but only end up with a screen whose backlight turns off when I plug it into the video card. I'm questioning my soldering, so before I crack open/screw up another screen, I'd like to explore some other options.
I was also considering using a component ps2 cable, along with the vga/component adapter from ATI. This would be expensive, but I already own the adapter. think this would work?

I've been looking around for PSOne car adapters but am wondering if I need to buy one at all. I'm not willing to risk this idea (at least until I know for sure if it works), but here goes.

Suppose you took your -5v lead and the +3.3v lead. Hook them up just as you would if running 24v through a fan and shouldnt you have 8.3v? The Sony car adapters put out 8.4v at 1.8a so I was thinking that this might work.

Also, its kind of odd that the AC adapter that comes with the screens puts out 7.5v/3a while the car does 8.4v/1.8a. Perhaps any voltage in between would work fine...

ok so I have tried got 2 psone screens from my local blockbuster for $15 a piece. I than got a ac adapter from meijer that can switch voltages to reach the proper amout. I want to mod thes lcds to make them work on a vga cable but I cant get them to work quite right. when I plug the power in they flash that go black. I tried hooking them up to my playstation and my ps2 they show an image but the back light doesnt seem to come on. :wallbash:
Also how can I tell the difference between an NTSC screen and a PAL one? :eyebrow:

I don't know if it's the video card, my mobo, or something else, but that old Mach64 card doesn't work with WinXP Pro, SP2.

    :sigh:

At least I still have my new Radeon 9800Pro...
    :thumb:

Hopefully I can get it to work with the Radeon's dual-monitor support, and the newest version of PowerStrip...

    -------- ::edit:: --------
I got it to work, but only after plugging in a CRT first.

so, it seems as though I will need to make a "VGA-Dummy" device (also here)...

my video card doesn't recognize my LCD on boot, so I will have to trick it with the "dummy" device so it thinks there is a monitor plugged in to that port in the back of my PC. After I login, I can take out the dummy and plug in the LCD.

this is kind of a hassle, but not too much.

    :sigh:

hey everyone, little problem I'm having.

I searched the article, but didn't find anything like this.

I have a crt connected threw the dvi port as my primary monitor, ps1 screen connected threw the regular vga port. I got the sodering done, and on boot up, the screen lights up at the windows loading screen. Then the backlight just stays on, but it doesn't seem like the screen is being recognised as a monitor. The backlight just stays on, and shuts off when I turn off the computer.

I'm trying to run it off of a BFG 5600u right now, and I know theres no c-sync, but I just want to see a little bit of winamp when I'm playing video games. Is there any reason it wouldn't be recognised at all by my computer? Could I have somehow soldered it on wrong, or is my computer just giving my random problems?

    thanks - mobi.
