quick question i am hoping some one here can answer, i took mine apart, i am making an external encolusre( i will post when finished) but i lost track of which wires connect where, i am talking about the two bundles of wires that connect the LCD to the input. there is a longer and a shorter bundle of wires, can any one tell me which connects to what part on the input thing, thanks alot! :) (ps, i know where the long and short one connects on the actual LCD, just which one goes where on the input part.)

So I gave up on doing the vga mod. ive never modding anything before thats difficult. anyways I bought an RCA cable for the screen and i got picture to work fine but its in black and white..

ive been scimming thru this thread but cant find the same problem. when i boot windows i can see color fine on the psone lcd screen..like on the loading windows xp screen..color and picture looks fine. however the moment i get onto the desktop the screen turns black and white.. i have powerstrip but have no idea how to use it. ive tried changing the resolution to 640x480. I know I have an nstc screen, i tried changing the settings to pal, just made the screen flicker.

i have an evga 7800gt and no i didnt set anything yet that would turn it black and white.. when i booted it up and saw color on the loading screen i was like yes! then got to the desktop "...." now im lost hah. im wondering if maybe its because im using the cable that came with my 7800gt..it has s-video and component hookups.. i finally found this "composite sync" option and unfortunately its greyed out ;/

    Hello,

Ive been scanning this thread for a few weeks now gathering all the info i needed to do this project.. so i thought. Anyways my card Geforce 6800gt has no c-sync. so i built the H-V to C sync adapter on starfoxes site. i cant for the life of me get it to work. i have had some luck with doing the following. Ill restart the computer and while booting swap my monitor with the psone lcd and the monitor goes blank but the lcd picks up images( its split down the center with the same image on each side ( windows logo so i guess its all wired correctly if it displays that). everything displays on screen untill windows starts then the screen turns black. I restart again and switch them again and this time the lcd displays nothin but green and the monitor picks up the picture when windows starts. I know the port isnt bad casue ive had the monitor in both. my card has dual dvi so i know its capable of dual view. ive read about adding a resitor to the green wire then grounding it- but i thought that method was for if your picture had a green tint; not a full green screen. im running out of options here. sorry for the novel above if i lost ya ill ry to clarify, maybe get some pictures.

Does anyone have any Powerstrip settings for a ATI AIW 9800 Pro? I am doing this MoD and am testing my PSone Lcd with 3.5mm to Composite to S-Video to the Video Card. :wallbash:

    Thanks,

I want to do the VGA Soldering method for this mod . . .

Could anyone please suggest a current vid card that would work with this mod. I was looking at the ATI 9250. WOuld this work with minimal frustration?

    Thank you for your help!!

I think the ATI 9250 should work. I have noticed that the ATI cards are better to do the VGA cable Mod, but the S-Video to 3.5mm works just as good. I have mine working through the 3.5mm with a ATI AIW 9800Pro. If you use the 9250 model, that should be plenty of graphics power. You don't need much for the PSOne LCD mod.

Plus, using ATI vs. Nvidia is better to mod since ATI cards use C-Sync. If you get a Nvidia card you will have to make a H-Sync/V-Sync converter to make the signal sync up.

Here are a few of my best URLs for this MoD:

    4. http://bit-tech.net/article/136/1

Some of the URL links at the beginning of each thread may not work, because they are so old.

I have mine running, using the ATI Catalyst Control Software 6.20. If you are doing the VGA cable mod, you will definitely need PowerStrip software. As I progress with my mod, I'll try to post some photos.

    Cpt. Ruger

    Holy Helpful Posts Batman!!

Thank you so much for the response Cpt. Ruger. ALL of that information was a HUGE help.

I'm just getting the PSONE LCD today and I've got a car adapter on the way soon. Once I get that 9250 and get it running, I'll post my results.

Does having two video cards solve the monitor swap method that I've been reading about for getting the LCD to work?

    Thank you again!!

    Hey Hartigan,

Monitor Swap? I am running mine under "Extended Desktop" mode. You'll see it using the ATI Catalyst Control software. I haven't done the full mod yet. The best thing to do it get the LCD screen working with you video card, then mod it to your case. Basically, test it then mod it. I hope some more modders are starting to do this mod since it has been around awhile.

If anyone has 'good words of advice', please post them if you ran into any problems doing this mod.

Im interested in doing a PSone screen mod, im just wondering since the silicon behind the actual LCD is bigger then the screen, how big are the dimensions so i know what i have to work with.

Heh. Yeah, some of the mods for this LCD I think were being done with only one vid card in the system (i think the radeon 7XXX and 9XXX series) and the card would not recognize the LCD so they had to swap the monitor from one connection on the card to the other so Windows would see a monitor on both card inputs.

Using two cards (I think :eyebrow: ) alleviates this issue. But I'm not 100% on that and was asking if you knew a more definitive answer.

we'll see, either way, I'm sure.

Just put in my order for the Radeon 9250 and I should have it by the end of next week (plus an X-Fi Elite  ) I've been saving for that for a LONG while!! :thumb:

I hear ya, about the test before install. Was definitely part of my plan, but I still appreciate the advice!!

    cheers

    Hey Hartigan,

Do you know how to take the car adapter apart? It is nearly seemless and I can't find any clips or snaps that will allow it to come apart.

    Damn it!

Nevermind!! I figured it out. It is a pain in the ass, but you have to take off the rubber piece where the car adapter wire meets the transformer box. Then break the transformer box into two halves. Once you have done that you are golden for this step.

Hope that helps you, I just didn't put enough thought through taking it apart.

    Later,

Does anyone know where I can get one of the Sony PSone Monitors? Or even the thrustmaster? I found one of the sony's for like 50$ on ebay or I could get one by "interact' for cheap. Will the interact one work? I heard it wont work for VGA method but will it work for the other one? Thanks

Yeah, if you want to do the VGA mod, the Sonys are just about the only way. However, some of the other brands can be cheap if you are willing to settle for composite hookup. In fact, I just bought a defective DVD player on eBay that has a 7" screen on it. Will be ripping it apart and hooking it up.

Also, the cheapo brands for other consoles might actually work better because the PCB is not crazy huge compared to the LCD like it is with the Sonys. Would definately allow for easier installation.

I have noticed that the Thrustmaster or other generic brands won't give you the picture quality like the Sony LCD. BUT I have heard they are easier to mod. I got the Sony LCD and it was cake to do the composite hook up. I have video out on my ATI AIW card, so it was no sweat and the new ATI Catalyst Control makes it a lot easier. I didn't even have to use PowerStrip to get the LCD to work. In the next week, I will be posting pictures of the start of my LCD MoD.

Hey User0001, how did you get your avatar to display? Do you get one after X number of posts? Just asking.
