Well, my PSOne LCD screen does work. I plugged it into the VGA connector on my 9800 Pro and booted it as the only display. I could make out the BIOS screen and Windows XP loading screen. When it got to the login screen, it was visible, but it was rolling down the screen.

So I know the screen works, but I guess I'll need to buy a cheap video card to run the screen.

I am haveing the same problems now CooLJoE, with windows not setting it up as 2nd monitor.
the original cable i was using wasnt the correct type, so our sparky in work gave me the correct type of 3.5mm jack which i put on the cable and now i cant get it recognised.
i got to the point before were everything was so stuffe up my main moniotr would not work, a new driver install solved that but not the LCD.
our sparky told me that with the original jack i was useing i was VERY lucky i ever got it working even though it was running for several hours it was just luck it was making the correct contacts.
over the weekend i may have a go with some cat5 cable onto the main header and connect directly to an old matrox millenium pci card i have and see if that will work.
i know everyone is on about the Mystique cards but i guess the millenium will have c sync also.
also interested in anyone elses view about the res i was getting,
ultramon was allowing me to set the res on the LCD when it was working to 1024 X 768, the same as my main monitor, i actually watch the picture change as i changed the res, i then needed to adjust the pic size to fill the screen, and all my samurize text needed to be about font size 20 to make it readable but the picture was so much clearer than when on 640 X 480, and video looked great, all this just running from video out on the card to the 3.5mm avi in on the LCD.

The backlight should come on automatically. I plugged mine into my car cigarette lighter with the car adapter and the screen and backlight both came on. That was with nothing plugged into the video portion of the LCD.

I wonder if connecting the +5v/DCC will change things and allow it to work as a secondary monitor. By this I mean run the wire, colored yellow on the diagrams, that is meant as +5v/DCC to pin 9 on the VGA connector (which I think is the correct pin on the VGA connector).

I mean, I just don't see a reason why the screen shouldn't work as a 2nd display. I'll have to try it out tomorrow.

Adding the +5v/DCC wire didn't change anything. Oh well.

    powerstrip help

I have a computer with an NVIDA GeForce2 64mb video card. I downloaded Powerstrip and when I click on Display->Config to change timings and such, I notice that the c-sync check box is greyed out and not able to be checked. Does this mean that I need to purchase another video card that supports c-sync, or will it still work?

buckitrade, you probably need to purchase a different video card, as I believe that most nVidia cards do not have C-Sync, which is imperative if you don't wish to have the big fat black section on top of the screen.

ALSO: I HAVE BEEN INQUIRING ABOUT PURCHASING FFC (FLAT FLEXIBLE CABLE) AND CONNECTORS, THAT WILL BE A CABLE EXTENSION FOR THE PSONE SCREENS. THIS WILL ALLOW PEOPLE TO PUT THE LCD SCREEN ITSELF ABOUT A MAXIMUM OF TWO FEET AWAY FROM THE PCB, THUS ALLOWING THE SCREEN A MUCH MORE VERSATILE MOUNTING POSITION. IF ANY OF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS, PLEASE POST, SAYING SO. THERE IS A MINIMUM PURCHASE FROM THE WEBSITE OF 30 CABLES, AND AT APPROXIMATELY $5 USD PER CABLE, I AM NOT WILLING TO MAKE THIS INVESTMENT IF THERE IS NO CHANCE OF RETURN. AGAIN, LET ME KNOW.

Hey guys, well its been over a year since i considered doing any modding, money is a b*tch right. This does look great, have been following the forum threads for a while since it came up, just couple of questions i got that i hope one of you great people can help me out with.

I own myself a nice LL PC60 case, gonna do the obvious thing of bunging it in the 3.5" slots, haven't had a floppy for two years anyway! Currently running an old mx440 on agp, single output with tv too. Can't afford to upgrade currently but since got some money in me paypal account looking at getting a screen from ebay. Understand how to wire it up and power it using the ciggie lighter mod etc, no issues i think, i hope...

So obviously since my card is somewhat naff, thinkin of also buying some el-cheapo pci gfx card from ebay too and run the card from that, you guys got any recommendations, not heard of many pples running it from a second card or certainly from an nvidia. How difficult is it??

Looking at getting a nice GF6800 GT as a primary card (hopefully!), how easy would it be to run this lcd from pci? I'm not totally 110% with it, can this card be run from the vga port on nvidia or not? sorry for the silly and probably very obvious questioning! Want the great picture that vga can provide rather than the easier/less beautiful picture the composite can provide! Also do i need to use the power up option pin as i shall be using PAL?

    Cheers

For one, you're going to need a GFX card that uses C-sync, which I don't believe many of the newer ones (like the 6800) use. Pretty much anything with a Radeon chipset has it, though. What C-sync does is prevents a 1/2" wide black box from appearing at the top of the screen. What I would recommend doing is building a VGA cable out of Cat5 and a Male VGA connector end. This way, you don't have to solder anything onto any video card. As far as the video card is concerned, I personally am going to be running my PSone screen off of an old Matrox Mystique 220. Cheers!

Cheers Adam, i appreciate your input, has cleared up a few things in my head, now one more thing, i am going to be needing the PAL version as live in the UK, wondering best way of operating this LCD, as wont want it on 24/7, need sleep sometimes! Guessing a simple switch would be too noisey for a nice lcd and should use a And gate or somet? Suggestions?! Or would some nice unbouncing switch do the buisness?

Hi, first, thanks a lot for that guide, it's awsome. I'm gonna receive my ps1 LCD soon (hopefully today) and I'm not sure if I will use vga or composite connexion, even thought I want to have the best display quality possible (vga), I want to be able to use the screen for my ps1 and other thing (composite), so here is my question: If I do the mod to get the vga connexion, will I still be able to use composit? Is there a way to keep the two method?

    Thanks a lot!

Finally got the screen......but without a power adaptor... :wallbash:

Anyone could be gentle enough to tell me what is the current of the adaptor (I know its 7.5V and ?mA) so I can try to find one in a local electronic store??

    Thanks a lot!

I have the official Sony Car adapter. It says 7.5V / 3A.

BTW, yes you can have a cable for composite and VGA connected to the screen at the same time. However, you can only use one or the other at a time, not both. The only issue I have is that no one gave out the pin assignment for composite; only s-video and vga. I know its only a ground and 1 other pin though.

Thanks...I'll see if I can find that..

Also thaks for the info for the composite (I have a S-Video to composite adaptor so it's cool for me)!

BTW, if anyone is not using their power supply (the one include with the screen) and would be kind enough to sell it to me let me know! (North America preferred for the cost of shipping)!

Im not really wanting to open my LCD up at the moment to go the VGA route, and ive seen people using S-Video which is fine by me (lower quality i know, but it doesnt matter for me), but i'm not entirely sure if what i want to do will work. Will this cable connected from the S-Video output on my GFX card to the Sony flat connector work ok? I was just wondering because surely the lead would usually be for outputting a signal from the LCD to the S-Video, and this wil be working the other way round - are these cables 2-way allowing it to work or not? Thanks :)

    Help needed

    Hi All,
Can someone help out here, I have wired up the PSone LCD and connected to my ASUS FX5200 2nd monitor port. It powers up but nothing but a black screen, using Powerstrip set to correct settings, LCD brighness/volume sliders work fine but still nothing but blackness. :wallbash: I read about the C-sync probs with nVidia cards but I should still see something just with a black border.

The port works OK, tested on another monitor. Hope this LCD is not a dud cos it's brand new and....errm...well...think the warranty may be void now.

    Any suggestions welcome.
