you would have to get a fan controller so you can change it, but im not sure that it would work in a PSU, suppose the concept is the same though?

You may get an increase in temperature due to the lower speed of the fan, although depending on the quality of the fan and the design of the blades, it might not matter too much. In terms of voltage, it's all 12V so as long as it's a case fan, should just be a straight swap.

I don't think gaz_360 read your question properly, what PSU is it? and how many fans are in it currently?

As Stu said, it may increase temps but if you are replacing the fans with ones that move near enough the same CFM it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, be careful when handling the inside of the PSU, the caps hold charge.

ah sorry I didn't read it properly, my bad :wallbash:

I thought you meant that you had brought a fan that is slower than your old one and wanted to change it to the same speed as the old one.

Like mentioned in the other posts you will probably see temp increase on various components but should be ok :)

    Sorry again

I swapped the stock fan in a 330W Coolermaster unit with a Noctua. It puts out very little airflow (but no noise!) and the PSU's been running fine for near two years now, pretty much 24/7.

Yeah I did the same, but with a Nexus fan. It still works just as well as the stock one did, and heat isn't that much worse off considering.

Quite a good fan if memory serves; a little louder than Noctuas (my weapon of choice for silence) but the airflow is better.

Out of interest, what PSU has an 80mm fan? :worried:

Quite a few cheaper or older PSUs. Of course most new units have 120mm or higher fans, some even have both.
