'fraid this isn't PC-related but this might just still be the best forum for the job.

I was looking for lighting for the shower and I found these rather handy 16mm IP67 LEDs

My to worries are whether, say, 10 of them will do the job for lighting shower - I'll have something more convential for the rest ofthe room - and what rating of PSU I'll need. For those of you that worry, yes I know there are regs and will have someone in to do the job, but I still need to work out if this plan might work.

    Many thanks in advance.....

Well they are only 17mA each, so I would assum they are 7-8 white LEDs in series in a nice package, even with 10, you would only need 170 mA, not even a quarter amp. Take 2 12vdc, isolated, wall warts and series them. See if you can find switchmode ones because they will have better regulation then transformer based ones.

Farnell also do several 24V DC regulated adaptors. ;)

Rapid's 24V SMPS ones look cheaper, but 2 lots of postage. :(

I'd be tempted to take it a step further and connect strings in series along with a capacitor and inrush limiting resistor and power them direct of the mains. (obviously assuming they are in a safe waterproof location within the shower...)

If you go for the 24V route and it's likely that they could get slightly wet I don't advise using a 24V SMPSU unless it's one of the ones where the 0V output is also mains grounded. The ones that aren't float at about 100V, and although they can only sink a few hundred uA to ground it's actually quite painful. :)
