Hi guys i've recently upgraded my pc thanks to the help of some ppl on here but i have a feeling my psu is not up to scratch as I am getting unplayable fps in COD: BO and other games such as WoW arent really running as smoothly as i'd like them to.

basicly im just looking for the best PSU for around £50 , i am not looking to get SLI for my card btw.

not sure if i need to supply more specs than just my graphics card and processor so if I do just let me know, thanks in advance. Tom.

    specs:
    1gb gtx460
    intel core 2 duo e4600 2.4ghz
    460W coolermaster PSU
    4GB RAM

I would of thought your PSU should be fine. Had it for long?

I would say your PSU definitely isn't an issue, 460W should be plenty for what you have listed.

How much RAM do you have? Have you considered overclocking your CPU at all? What res are you playing at?

its over 2-3 years old and it says that its only 310w when its 12v
    I have 4gb ram
and I wouldnt consider overclocking my cpu as I think the psu is the problem
oh and im only playing at 1280x1024 as my screen is pretty bad so thats why im thinking my fps should be considerably higher!
cheers for the quick reply guys :)

It smells like a driver issue... a chipset OR GPU driver issue OR your CPU or GPU throttles due to overheating.

If it was the PSU, then the system would just turn off on it self as soon as you stress the system.

^^ This. Are you on Win7? If so, did you let windows select and install the gpu driver for you? I always download the driver from the manufacturer of the card.

What case do you have? How is the cooling?

to tell you the truth I just formated my pc and installed windows 7 yesterday so I havnt actually tested any games since. ill check to see if its still lagging and get back to you guys cause it could have possibly been a driver issue as i switched from an ati card to an nvidia while i was still running vista and im not sure if i deleted the previous gpu driver properly.

cheers ill be very happy if its not a psu problem :)

If the PSU provides what it promises, it's not an issue. And if it were, you'd most likely get crashing and/or smoke, not just poor FPS. (I've used a 320 W on 12 V line to run more power hungry stuff than that) Also dunno about WoW as I've never played it, but I can tell I get poor FPS in CoD:BO with HD5870 and a 3,5 GHz quad-core...

So try re-installing all the drivers before shopping anything new.

    EDIT: damn ninja'd :)

I'd suggest using driversweeper beforehand to help clean the slate.

PSU would not be my first port of call if I had the same issues.
I don't like CoolerMaster PSU's or at least the 1 I tried, but I wouldn't say that was your problem.
    Suggest taking wise suggestions above.

hey well to my surprise when I booted up my pc this morning i got a CPU error and had a look inside my case and it seems my cooler is broken so have changed it back to the stock one that came with the processor.
hopefully this was the only problem but im really not sure why it stopped working but thanks for all the help guys you never dissapoint :)
